Stephen Harper's Totally Disastrous Day of Political Devastation

It seems only appropriate that the only thing Stephen Harper tweeted yesterday, was a little video of himself learning the proper way to pour beer in Ireland.

Because I'll bet Great Leader was pouring himself more than a few last night, after what had to be an absolutely disastrous day for him and his ghastly Cons.

The day when his campaign of fear and bigotry came back to bite him. And he shot himself in the foot.

Starting with his crass attempt to inflame emotions over the long dead gun registry, by encouraging people in rural areas to get guns to defend themselves from criminals, and presumably terrorists...

Which not only had legal experts wondering why he would encourage citizens to break the law and risk being charged with MURDER?

And others wondering whether he had lost his moral compass AND his marbles.

But of course in Quebec, where the gun registry is still popular, it went down like a lead balloon.

Premier Philippe Couillard and politicians from all major parties in Quebec are taking aim at remarks made last week by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Saskatchewan, where he said that guns are needed for safety in rural areas.

"The fewer guns in circulation in Quebec the better. A country where there's an abundance of firearms circulating is not a country that the majority of Canadians and Quebecers want to live in," Couillard said.

You know Quebec, the province he has been trying to woo so passionately, with money and the ethnic niqab issue...

And as if all that gun talk wasn't enough to pour a bucket of cold water over his passionate affair with la belle province.

Then along came Larry Miller.

Who to many Québécois seeing him for the first time, must have seemed like a nightmare come to life. The stereotypical Reform redneck, who loves guns, and hates immigrants and THEM.

And must surely have made some wonder what's more dangerous? Niqabs or cowboy bigots?

And left Stephen Harper screaming with frustration to see all that money and all that passion go to waste.

But sadly for him his bad day wasn't over.

Because if he was tempted to switch from fear mongering and bigotry to something sweeter like tax breaks...

He could forget about that, after this devastating report on his income splitting porky plan.

The Parliamentary Budget Officer says the Conservative government’s income-splitting tax cut will cost $2.2-billion this year and only benefit about 15 per cent of Canadian households.

The analysis from Parliamentary Budget Officer Jean-Denis Fréchette finds the benefits will primarily go to “medium- through high-income households,” repeating a conclusion reached by other researchers. In fact, the PBO says families in the bottom 20 per cent of income would receive “near zero” benefit from the tax cut.

Which is bound to disappoint a lot of Canadians, or make them really ANGRY...

And then, as Harper reeled from that blow, and no doubt screamed for the Parliamentary Budget Officer's head to be brought to him on a plate with an apple in his mouth.

Then came this devastating poll.

Support for the Conservative government's anti-terror bill has dropped dramatically over the past month, a new poll suggests. According to a Forum Research poll released Tuesday, 45% of Canadians approve of Bill C-51 after it's explained to them.

That's a stark drop from February, when an Angus Reid poll found that 82% of Canadians were on board with the bill, which would grant law enforcement broad powers to "disrupt" suspected threats to national security.

Which if true, suggests that fear levels are falling fast.

"It is clear that, now the immediate rush of anxiety over the Oct. 22 attacks is over, Canadians are slightly less likely to see the need to alter the country's security protocols," Forum Research president Lorne Bozinoff said in a press release.

And that the more Canadians know about the anti-terrorist bill, the more they dislike it.

And presumably the more they'll dislike him if he insists on ramming it through parliament...

Which leaves Harper's campaign strategy in tatters, because he was counting on fear to win him his bloody majority.

And now that those porky tax breaks have been exposed as a gift to the 15%, or just another Con scam, he really has NOTHING.

You know, in a column yesterday that attempted to explain Harper's bizarre twisted strategy Michael Den Tandt concluded with these words.

"If this is truly the game plan for Election 2015, then the governing party may be in worse shape than public polls indicate. The prospect of loss, they say, brings a fear all its own."

And I think he's right.

Harper is scared, he's probably shaking like a jello. He's used every dirty trick in the book and has only soiled himself.

He has shot himself in the foot. He is crazy desperate.

And give him a little more time, to stew in his own juices.

And his own madness will destroy him...

So much for the credibility of Angus Reid, asking loaded questions to the politically uneducated ( mostly harper's base support ) Makes you wonder if their now under the control of the PMO, just like the MSN

In the interests of public safety and decency, Larry Miller should be obliged to wear a niqab in public.

Well his hero Bibi won so that would have made him all giddy. He should fly over with his band and celebrate by playing a concert for Bibi and warbling out a few altered Beatles tunes such as: Don't Give Peace a Chance, Helter Skelter as we Swelter, Hey Jew, Here Comes the Jihad, Let it Bleed, Bibi in the Sky with Cluster Bombs, Help, The End.

I always thought the 82% "support" for the police-state bill was pretty thin. But I was genuinely worried that people would carry this mindless support for something that sounds good in the face of a whipped-up terrorist menace all the way to the polling booth.

Hopefully, if we get the word out, more people will see it for what it is. A naked grab for power.

I still think it's Duffy, and other scandals that will destroy the harpercons. harper is too sick and afraid to call an election now. he's not in majority territory. The economy is fragile. People are unhappy. So, like the coward he is, he'll stick it out. Cling to power as lon as he can in the hopes that things will improve. Which means the Duffy trial and all the damning testimony will come out and expose him and his party for the career criminals that they are.

I think that Larry Miller should look in a mirror before he makes comments about other Canadians, regarding the way they look, dress or their ethnic origins.
To me he looks like the result of a love tryst between Mike Duffy and Rob Ford.

Most didn't expect him to win 2011(although likely thru election fraud). But look also to Israel and how the night before, many were predicting Bibi's finish. Harper will not surrender easily. I expect he will call form a 9-11 or something equally horrific to get his way. He is the kind of govt that the USA elites like to keep in power. Look around the world.

Hey-Zeus Christos I grew up in the country side and all we ever needed was a guard dog to warn us of intruders. But you know what the only strangers that showed up were lowly harmless salesmen who were afraid to get out of their auto because of our dog. So since Stevie not wonder PM has never lived in the country who in the fuck is he trying to fool? Think about it...

"Be very afraid arm your self because they are coming to get you." "Who?" "Stephen Harper's new not so secret police that is who if you don't agree with Mao Tse Harper that is who." "Arm your self and be prepared for a gun battle with the Harper-cons secret police?"

What a nutcase Harper has become drunk on beer and power and taking orders from the 1%...

Canada is getting too americanized.......surely people can see this?

You don't have to research harper. Just check his "statements and writings" while he headed up the little think tank in Ontario. It tells you everything. The child was raised by an oil exec. father, in Ontario. The only 'real' job the "real economist" every had was in the mail room of an oil company his father was an executive of. Then he moved to Alberta and found love???????????
Just read the "message" of the church he and 60 other Con M.P.s belong to. The bible is "inerrant" and the second coming is "imminent". So with that type of belief, don't be surprised he can't get his head wrapped around climate change and all those scientific things they teach in grade 10.

harper likes to wear military style jackets to pretend he is military and to give the impression he is like an American Pres. Unfortunately he just isn't as smart as most of them. O.K. Bush 2 wasn't that bright, but he did have a great smile and a nice suite.

they ought to arrest harper for pretending to be a military officer and for impersonating a P.M.

Simon my internet friend if you do not have a sense of humor which you obviously do you would go mad would you not eh?

Fuck fuck and fuck again how did a criminal like Harper ever steal and baby oil his way into office? From right wing extremists and the 1% that own 90% of the Earth her wealth and her resources...

I'm sick of this self named Harper government the con clown criminal show but I have a delicious feeling that there is going to be a major backlash against them.

And who is this anon con clown that keeps threatening you with "When Bill C-51 is passed your hate-mongering website will be shut down?" Bill C-51 will never pass a Supreme Court of Canada ruling what is that hate monger going on about? No freedom of speech is what they want to shut us all up that do not agree with the Harper-con criminal clown show. We have seen this before in history and it never worked except for a short period of time. Harper-cons your days are limited and for breaking Canada's rule of law we will suspend your pension and put you in jail with hardcore criminals. Have fun with that scenario no wonder the cons are abandoning the con criminal clown show they don't want to share a jail cell with a murderer or rapist.

Fuck again I'm not happy with this picture, Canada was such a great country that I grew up in and now we are the laughing stock of the world, oh thanks Steve and fuck you.

Sorry for the strong language Montreal Simon but someone has to say these things ;)

Cheers enjoy the outdoors and warm times at home,
Mogs Moglio

So let it begin let the Harpo criminal nut gang "Secret Police" come and get me I will not hide in a closet I will not have a long gun. They can torture me all they want I will die with pride of being a Canadian prior to Harper's Dictatorship now I'm disgusted that I have a criminal in high office. He is like Pontius Pilatus Latin for Pontius Pilate who washes his hands of every crime he committed. Well Harper time will catch up with you and you will be sentenced to a jail term not in a country club jail but with real angry male criminals. Have fun there Harper!

hi jolly roger...I don't know what to think of any polls these days. But what's happening seem to me to make sense. Harper does not have anything but fear to run on now, and you can't scare all the people all the time...

Simon said...

hi anon...now THAT is a scary image. A niqab with a cowboy hat and talking cracker? OMG. I think I'm going to faint... ;)

Simon said...

hi anon...yes I'm sure he is delighted, and no doubt Benny's fear campaign has encouraged him to believe that fear will also work for him. What happened in Israel is tragic, so let's make damn sure it doesn't happen here....

Simon said...

hi thwap...yeah that's what I am hoping too. Are lot of people are forgetting that Harper and his filthy gang are carrying a lot of baggage. And any other scandal will only taint them further, and remind voters of all they have done in the past. I appreciate that a lot of Canadians were genuinely scared, and I understand that. But you can't live on your knees forever, and at this stage in their degeneration I doubt the Cons will be able to fool people all the way to the next election...

Simon said...

hi anon...I put out a tweet of him in a St Patrick's Day costume. And I said that if he knew the history of the Irish people in Canada, he would not be telling others to go back where they came from...

Simon said...

hi CAspden...what happened in Israel is truly frightening, and will no doubt encourage Harper to keep playing his politics of fear and bigotry. He will not surrender easily, but if we are strong and unafraid we will defeat him...

Simon said...

hi Kathleen...Canada is indeed becoming too Americanized. Protecting our unique culture while living next to a giant like the U.S. was always going to be difficult. But it doesn't help when the Con regime has imported the Republican politics of division and attack ads, and has no respect for our Canadian values...

Simon said...

hi Mogs...there is no excuse for Harper's insane statement. Especially not since studies show that the non-farm use of weapons are responsible for high rates of domestic violence and suicides. Harper is out his mind these days, and can't be removed from power soon enough...

Simon said...

hi e.a.f....Are you trying to remind people that Harper comes from out East? How could you? We've disowned him you know. And I've lived in Toronto for years and I've never been to Etobicoke.;)
But seriously, the man's record is appalling, and historians will have a hard time explaining how he ever fooled so many people into thinking he was a Canadian Prime Minister. I don't know what planet he came from, but it must be a truly dreadful place...

Simon said...

hi Mogs...I am really grateful that I do have a sense of humour, because it has carried me through many hard times ever since I was a boy. And another reason I try to use it against the Cons is because although fascists hate being criticized, when people laugh at them it drives them really CRAAAAAZY. ;)
As for that Con who keeps sending absurd comments trying to intimidate me with Bill C-51, he or she is just one of many. I only publish that one's nonsense because it only proves our point. The bill is dangerous and must be scrapped...

Simon said...

hi Mogs...No I'm going to insist on a sentence of hard labour. It think it's about time they found out what it's like to work for ten cents an hour... ;)

And Love to you and Sebastian my wife and I are happy we have had a good upbringing on farms/ranches in the country something that is devoid to the Harper-cons...
