When I first saw Canadian soldiers arriving at long term care homes in Ontario and Quebec I must admit I was shocked.
I didn't think they had the training or the equipment to be able to do much good.
But boy was I wrong.
It seems like only yesterday that Peter MacKay was claiming that Canadians had lost faith in the Trudeau government, and was demanding an October election.
But he's not doing that any longer.
Peter MacKay, one of four candidates left fighting to be the next leader of the Conservative Party, says he doesn’t believe that Canadians want a federal election this fall as the country continues to grapple with the impact of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
MacKay is blaming Covid-19 for his change of heart, but I'm sure these latest poll numbers also helped cool his jets.

In my last post I looked at how Stephen Harper is now blaming the Con media for his humiliating loss to Justin Trudeau.
And I had a good laugh, for it sounded so ridiculous.
But I'm not laughing anymore.
Because now a Con in Quebec is comparing Harper to Churchill...
In October it will be five years since a pale, shell shocked Stephen Harper stumbled out into the night after being humiliated by Justin Trudeau, the leader he claimed wasn't ready.
Since that fateful night Harper hasn't had anything to say about why he lost the election.
But now in an interview with the right-wing talk show host Dennis Prager, Great Failed Leader is finally pointing the shaky finger of blame.
And believe it or not, he's blaming the Con media!!!

It was Andrew Scheer's birthday the other day, but as you can imagine the celebrations were somewhat muted.
None of his Cons felt much like celebrating, not when so many of his Cons are afraid that thanks to Scheer they are going to lose their seats in the next election.
And of course, this was a lousy birthday present.

Justin Trudeau was looking very spiffy at his regular briefing this morning.
Maybe it was just the sunny Spring day, or his new jacket.
Or maybe it was this shiny new poll.

As we all know the depraved Donald Trump has been posing as a U.S. President for what seems forever, and failing miserably. Over and over again.
But the raging pandemic, and those 90,000 dead Americans, have spooked him almost as much as Joe Biden's rising polls.
And now he's playing doctor, and claiming he's taking the dangerous anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine...
Sunday, May 17, 2020
He tried to hide it for many years. He didn't want anyone to know that he was also an American citizen.
Especially since he had gone after Former Gov. General Michaëlle Jean for holding a French citizenship.
And when he was finally exposed, he promised to renounce his American citizenship as soon as possible.
But sadly the Ugly American was lying. Again.
Friday, May 15, 2020
As I'm sure you know, I believe that Andrew Scheer is the most morally depraved leader in modern Canadian history. He was already known to be a serial liar, a racist, a misogynist, a vile homophobe, and a climate change denier.
But the pandemic has dragged him into the foul depths where only the cruelest and most dirty beasts roam.
For first he accused the CERB program of encouraging suffering Canadians to be lazy.
Now he's accusing Justin Trudeau of turning a blind eye to fraud.

A recent poll suggested that half of all Canadians are experiencing some form of depression, and half are saying they’re feeling hopeless.
So it's not hard to imagine how many Canadian children are feeling. Caught up in a crisis they don't really understand, as well as missing their friends.
So the other day Justin Trudeau decided to reach out to them and their parents.
I must admit that as the days warm up, I'm finding it harder and harder to spend my spare time locked up in my self imposed prison cell.
And the sight of a guy portaging a canoe down the street is enough to drive me wild.
But as much as I long to be free, or understand why so many are desperate to end the lockdown,
I fear that ending it too quickly could lead to disaster.

Last Sunday night Donald Trump shocked most decent Americans taking part in a Fox News town hall at the Lincoln Memorial.
And making an absolute fool of himself over and over again.
"They always said Lincoln -- nobody got treated worse than Lincoln. I believe I am treated worse."
But now it seems that the outraged spirit of Lincoln may have seized its revenge.
For a group of disaffected Republicans who call themselves The Lincoln Project have just released a video that is driving Trump crazy, or crazier...

I'm sure for a lot of Canadians it was a recurring nightmare. A question that kept them up at night.
What would have happened if the Cons had won the election and Andrew Scheer not Justin Trudeau was in charge of the war against COVID-19?
Well now they know, and sure enough, it couldn't be more horrifying.

About three weeks ago I wrote a post looking at those who were still refusing to accept the deadly nature of Covid-19.
I warned that kind of ignorance could kill us.
And I wondered why a Coronavirus denier was blogging at Progressive Bloggers.
Friday, May 01, 2020
Growing up in Montreal I was haunted by the picture of these murdered women.
Murdered at the École Polytechnique more than 30-years-ago.
Savagely slaughtered just for being women, by a man who hated feminists.

Donald Trump isn't playing the mad doctor any longer, and suggesting that you can cure COVID-19 by injecting disinfectant into your veins, or shoving a powerful light up your rear end.
Not after he was informed that poison control calls have been soaring.
Not after learning that his polls are tanking.
And not after he finally figured out that people are laughing at him all over the world.
Justin Trudeau's last two months must have seemed to him like two years.
For not only has he had to lead the war against COVID-19, and try to stave off economic collapse.
He has also had to deal with the horror of a mass murder, and a fire at his mother's home.
But somehow he has managed to stay calm, while overseeing the biggest rescue operation in Canadian history.
Tuesday, April 28, 2020
I see the pictures of the coronavirus deniers on TV, echoing the murderous ignorance of their master Donald Trump.
I talk about them with some of the frontline workers who are risking their lives to try to defeat COVID-19.
We try to laugh at them, but it's so hard when the coronavirus they are mocking is so deadly.
Monday, April 27, 2020
I watched the show Stronger Together last night, which was designed to salute our frontline workers and raise money for food banks across the country.
And I absolutely loved it.
Not because of the music, or all those well known performers, but because it was so so Canadian, and had solidarity written all over it.
And above all sent out the message, we all need to hear: WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.
So you can imagine how disgusted I felt when at the end of the show I saw this...

He's trapped in the White House. He can't play golf. The pandemic has blown his economic boom out of the window.
And it's all driving Donald Trump crazy... or crazier.
So much so that he's playing doctor again.
A strange thing happened last night. I wrote a post that was published on Progressive Bloggers, but had disappeared early today.
So I'm repeating it under another name in the hope that it won't happen again.
And what I wanted to say was that although I have always known that Andrew Scheer was a racist, he was able to hide that racism from most Canadians.
Until suddenly he couldn't.
When one of his Con MPs attacked Canada's top doctor in the most disgusting manner.
Wednesday, April 22, 2020
Andrew Scheer has always been a weird bird. He's a religious fanatic, a racist, a misogynist, a homophobe, and a climate change denier.
But lately his kooky behaviour appears to be spinning out of control. He seems to be campaigning for office again, even though he's just a lame duck loser, and he's only supposed to be keeping the seat warm for the next leader.
So much so that it took him forever to react to that horrible massacre in Nova Scotia.
No doubt worried that any talk of gun control might anger his gun loving base.
Or make them believe he wasn't one of them.
Because my parents live in Scotland, I'm forced to worry about the fight against Covid-19 in the UK where the Con clown Boris Johnson rules.
Who after surviving his close encounter with Covid-19, has been praising the NHS for saving him.
"I can't thank them enough. I owe them my life," he said in comments that were released to journalists and confirmed by his office on Sunday.
But has yet to admit that he was a victim of his own criminal irresponsibility.
Friday, April 17, 2020
As I'm sure you all know, I have long believed that Andrew Scheer and his Cons are more American than Canadian.
And now we have yet another example of how low they have fallen.
Another example of the strange power the increasingly deranged Donald Trump holds over them.
I haven't felt much like blogging recently. The greyness of these Covid times, and worrying about my friends risking their lives on the front lines of the pandemic, has practically paralyzed me.
When the bug first struck I thought about keeping a Plague Journal, like Daniel Defoe did during the Black Death.
But that didn't last long. In the internet age the story is just too big. Self isolation drained the energy out of me. So soon all I wanted to do in my spare time was watch TV, and sleep. And eat, did I mention eat?
But now I am energized again...

In my last post I looked at why we need to strictly enforce social distancing if we are ever going to get the Covid-19 pandemic under control.
So we can flatten the curve before a surge of sick people overwhelms emergency rooms in many hospitals across Canada.
And avoid the slaughter of doctors and nurses, the old and the vulnerable.
So you can imagine how I felt when I saw this.

It's a great shot. Justin Trudeau meets with some of the members of his Team Canada for the first time after three weeks in self isolation.
With a lunchbox on his desk, and the weight of the world on his shoulders.
But even though he must be exhausted not having taken even one day off, he's out there every morning giving Canadians the latest on the battle to defeat Covid-19.
Even when the news is grim.
Tuesday, April 07, 2020
Toronto police have been patrolling the city making sure that people are social distancing.
They have been handing out some pretty stiff fines to those who still don't get it.
And I couldn't be more grateful.
For unless we can do more to flatten the curve, and quickly, a lot of Canadians are going to die who might have been saved.

The other day, Cathie from the excellent blog Cathie From Canada, left this comment on my blog:
I have never been more proud to be Canadian than I have been since this crisis began. Even Ford is rising to the occasion. Someday I hope to read the story of how Trudeau did it, how he organized the government to put the right people in place to meet this crisis.
And I have to say I feel the same way.
These are dark and desperate times, but unlike many other countries we've got a great Team Canada to help get us through this nightmare....

It's a bit bleak in my neighbourhood these days. The ice has gone from the rink, so now if you want to skate you've got to have wheels.
But I was still glad to be able to spend some time by the lake this weekend, feel the cool fresh wind in my face, give thanks that I'm still standing.
And prepare for the crucial week ahead.
Wednesday, March 25, 2020
About a week ago I ran a picture of Andrew Scheer grinning and chuckling during a debate on the Coronavirus, no doubt thinking that he could use the medical emergency to try to destroy Justin Trudeau.
But of course it's not easy to do that, not when Trudeau and his team are doing such a great job.
But on Sunday after receiving a draft of the government's emergency aid plan, he thought he saw a way to hurt Trudeau, and went for it like a spider goes for a fly.
Tuesday, March 24, 2020
Donald Trump has always been a lousy president, a corrupt vulgar man who has debased himself and his country over and over again.
He has failed his country in its hour of need. Never has dumb seemed so dangerous.
And this is nothing less than attempted genocide.
Friday, March 20, 2020
He has had to weather one crisis after another. His wife is sick with Covid-19, and he must take care of their children alone, while under self-isolation.
But from that little office he is still governing this country.
Still communicating with other world leaders.
There are few worse ways to die than with a bad case of pneumonia, gasping for every small breath of air, a burning pain in your chest, your panicked eyes bulging out of your head.
But it's the way most Covid-19 patients die, and why ventilators that can pump oxygen into their damaged lungs are so important.
Unfortunately however, there may not be enough breathing machines for everyone.
Nobody seems to have prepared for a monster like this one...

The great Canadian cartoonist Michael de Adder drew that one seventeen years ago, during the SARS outbreak. But it works just as well today.
For it reflects what many people all over Canada are feeling about the latest killer virus, Covid-19, as it keeps ramping up.
Shock. Fear. Panic. Stunned confusion. Madness.
But as for me, I just hope Canadians can be made to understand one of the biggest lessons of SARS:
Protect our hospitals and health workers, or watch a pandemic turn into a living nightmare.

The railway blockades have been a real test of Canada's character, a measure of its Canadian values.
With most favouring compromise and negotiation over the use of force.
While others screamed for native blood.
Includiing our monstrous Cons, who tried to use the crisis for crass political purposes.
Tuesday, March 03, 2020
I have always had trouble taking Peter MacKay seriously.
I've always thought of him as a wannabe Margaret Thatcher, who couldn't quite pull it off.
There is a reason I call him Dumbo.
And of course, this doesn't make him look any smarter.
Monday, March 02, 2020
I must admit that for a while the situation looked bleak. The country was in an uproar, convulsing in a spasm of late winter madness.
Mohawk protesters were trying to set fire to trains, Andrew Scheer and other racists were having a field day.
And all over Canada angry old Cons were screaming at Justin Trudeau.
"Arrest them, send in the army, shoot them!!!!"
And looking like maniacs.
Friday, February 28, 2020
The deadline has come and gone. Nominations for the Con leadership race are now closed.
And one thing is immediately obvious, this country has never seen a lousier line-up.
In fact so bleak is the situation, that when I think of the two front runners, Peter MacKay and Erin O'Toole, I can't help but think of this...
Monday, February 24, 2020
For months Jason Kenney has been strutting around like a puffed up mini Mussolini, bellowing "Trudeau gimme that mine, or else!!!!"
And threatening that Alberta could separate if the Liberal government didn't approve the Teck Frontier project, a massive oil sands mine.
But today you could hear the air hissing out of him, after the project was abandoned, and once again he was made to look like a loser.
As you may know, I have always been deeply concerned about Andrew Scheer's mental stability.
His creepy smile, his religious extremism, his feverish obsession with Justin Trudeau, and his compulsive desire to strangle the truth, always made me wonder whether he was going off the deep end.
And sure enough, I truly believe he finally has.
And it all started on the night he was defeated and humiliated by the man he hates so much.
Friday, February 21, 2020
He waited as long as he could, too long in the opinion of many.
He was obviously hoping that peaceful negotiation could bring down the rail barricades, in the best Canadian tradition.
But at last Justin Trudeau's patience was exhausted.
And it was the day of decision.
In my last post, I looked at how Peter MacKay tweeted his support for far-right vigilantes who dismantled a blockade near Edmonton.
Only to hastily delete it.
But by then it was too late, it had gone viral.
Thursday, February 20, 2020
The barricades are still up, the ugly Cons are still howling for native blood.
And a lot of people all over the country are impatient and angry.
But Justin Trudeau's decision to rely on the Canadian values of negotiation and compromise seems to be working.
Public Safety Minister Bill Blair says he's hoping the RCMP's offer to leave their outpost on Wet'suwet'en territory in northern B.C. will lead to the barricades coming down, as talks aimed at ending the rail blockades crippling the country's rail network continue.
And just in the nick of time, for some angry white Cons are trying to take the law into their own hands.
Tuesday, February 18, 2020
Thanks to this blockade I had to rent a car and drive to Montreal, instead of taking the train.
But Seb and I got to play our favourite songs all the way there and back, which we hadn't done for a long time. So we had a blast.
And for a while at least I didn't have to listen to the howls of the bestial Cons.
For they are out of control.
Saturday, February 15, 2020
I've always known that Erin O'Toole wasn't the brightest bulb in the universe, but I've always thought of him as a relatively innocuous Con clown.
Unfortunately ever since he set out to win over his party's rabid base, he 's starting to sound like a far-right extremist.
And this is just the latest example.
Thursday, February 13, 2020
He swam menacingly around the shark tank. He couldn't make up his mind. He knew the Cons were hoping he'd liven up their deadly boring leadership race.
He knew they were desperate.
It is hard to imagine a race more boring than this one... As in any arena, strong competition breeds strong competitors. A field of strong candidates fight more forcefully for their ideas. Their weaknesses get tested. And through the fire of a leadership contest – the hotter the better - you harden them into steel.
Step forward John Baird.
But when the time came, he just wasn't ready.
As I'm sure you know, there have been protests all over the country, in solidarity with the hereditary chiefs of the Wet’suwet’en Nation in northern B.C.
And while most of the protests have been noisy but peaceful.
Some have been ugly with people denied entrance to the places where they work.
Wednesday, February 12, 2020
The other day I wrote about how Erin O'Toole wants everybody to know that he's a True Blue Con.
Although I wasn't quite sure what exactly he was trying to say.
But now I know, and it couldn't be more ridiculous
