Pierre Poilievre and the Curse of Stephen Harper

Stephen Harper has been lurking in the shadows of the ghastly Con leadership race from the moment it began.

He let his flunkeys know that they should do everything they could to support Pierre Poilievre, to prevent Jean Charest from becoming Con leader.

But he never dared show his face.

Until things showed signs of going  terribly wrong.

Poilievre's popularity started to tank, Charest's popularity surged.

And a panicky Harper came crawling out of the shadows to make his choice official.

It's a spooky video that reminds me of a ghostly white Dracula risen from the dead.

Or the Kiss of the SpiderCon...

But far from giving Poilievre a boost, I believe that endorsement will have the opposite effect.

For while it will probably ensure that Poilievre wins the Con leadership race, I believe it will seal his fate in the general election.

In their desperate search for a saviour, the Cons seem to have forgotten how much many Canadians still hate Harper.

They forget how much damage he did when he was Prime Minister, and how far he has fallen since Justin Trudeau booted him out of office.

So much so that in his role as chairman of the far right IDU, he now cheers for people like the Nazi Victor Orban

Hungary’s far-right prime minister, has lashed out against the “mixing” of European and non-European races,in a speech that immediately drew outrage from opposition parties and European politicians.

“We [Hungarians] are not a mixed race … and we do not want to become a mixed race,” said Orbán on Saturday. He added that countries where European and non-Europeans mingle were “no longer nations”.

And when you add that kind of baggage, to the fascist baggage Poilievre is now carrying...

And you add Harper to the list of Poilievre's other equally ugly supporters...

It gives new meaning to the old saying: With friends like that who needs enemies?

And so much for those gatekeepers...

You know, Poilievre was almost certainly going to lose the next general election.

But with Stephen Harper on his side he doesn't stand a chance.

And the wonderful irony is that the man who created the monster Cons.

Will be the one who finally destroys them....

Pierre Poilievre and the Island Airport Fiasco

You don't have to live right next to Billy Bishop Airport, like I and about half a million others do, to understand what a disruptive presence the island airport has become.

When the wind blows from a certain direction, you can hear the noise and smell the fumes all over downtown Toronto.

So you can imagine how I felt when I saw that Pierre Poilievre had invaded my neighbourhood. Again.

And had made a deranged video, about his plan to destroy it.

Pierre Poilievre and the Climate Change Trap

Pierre Poilievre has been a professional politician all his life. It's the only job he's ever done.

He's a feral politico if ever there was one, with a well honed survival instinct.

So it's hard to understand how he could have made such a potentially catastrophic mistake as thinking he could get away with ignoring the issue of climate change.

Even though it's the biggest issue we face.

Even as the planet burns.

Have the Cons Finally Blown Up Their Party?

It was yet another perfect blue sky day, and I was feeling even sunnier than usual.

So I thought that instead of writing about the ugliness of the Cons, I would write about something different, and a little a lot lighter.

Like the Prime Minister's new haircut.

I couldn't decide whether I liked it or not, but it didn't really matter.

Because suddenly the sunny picture darkened.

Pierre Poilievre and the Hidden Hand of Harper

I've been taking some time off to enjoy one of the finest summers I can remember, with one blue sky day after the other.

I've enjoyed getting out on the lake, leaving the noise and the madness of the big city behind.

And feeling the fresh clean wind in my face.

But try as I might, I haven't been able to get away from the stench of Pierre Poilievre.

For there he was the other day, playing pretend cowboy at the Calgary Stampede, wearing a hat so big it made him look like the Flying Nun.

And absolutely ridiculous.

But then Big Hat wasn't really trying to impress anybody.

He just wanted people to try to forget the posse of far-right extremists he was seen riding with the other day.

For even that ghastly Con now realizes that he has made a humungous mistake.

In a country where the convoy terrorists are almost universally despised, he has reminded Canadians that he is one of them.

So he can no longer pretend that he isn't a true believer.

So much so that some journalists like Max Fawcett are now calling the Cons the Convoy Party.

While our nation’s capital managed to survive the festivities mostly unscathed, the so-called convoy’s creeping takeover of this country’s official Opposition continues apace.

Far from turning his back on the more extremist elements of that movement, Poilievre seems determined to hug them as close as possible.

While other decent Canadians are warning of the growing threat of fascism.

And what makes all of the above even worse for me, is that Big Hat Poilievre reminds me of this ugly Con...

Poilievre's evil Reform daddy, who as Tom Mulcair points out, is clearly the hidden hand behind the scenes, trying to anoint him leader of the party he founded.

Conservative skullduggery in booting out Patrick Brown as a candidate reflects very badly on a Party prone to lecturing others about probity, ethics and integrity.

When you look at their connections to the Harper era, this whole manoeuvre appears even more troubling. The man overseeing the decision (and announcing it near midnight!) was Stephen Harper’s former Chief of Staff. Meanwhile, Harper’s former campaign manager is the senior adviser for Pierre Poilievre, the candidate who benefits most from the elimination of his only serious rivals.

And the more you look at the sudden decision to boot out Patrick Brown, it's also clear that the Harperites were really going after Jean Charest, a man Harper despises.

And that the move was triggered a few days after the Charest campaign released a document claiming that he had a "path to victory."

That was the real target of these shenanigans, not Patrick Brown but Jean Charest. As has always been their habit, the Harperites knew what they wanted - a Poilievre win - and they were going to get it, by hook or by crook.

Charest still has a “path to victory”? Destroy it…

It's such a grotesque example of gangster politics.

But it tells us all we need to know about them, and it's a move that could backfire badly.

For if Canadians come to believe that a vote for Poilievre is a vote for Harper, as they surely will. We'll make sure of that.

Justin Trudeau will do to Poilievre what he did to his evil master...

Deposit him head first in the garbage can of history.

You know, when the Globe and Mail ran this story the other day, just the headline drove the Cons crazy.

You could hear the Con kooks wailing and screaming from coast to coast  to coast.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH !!!!

But they just don't get it. They just don't understand that Justin Trudeau will always be more popular than Pierre Poilievre.

For he's a real leader.

While the nasty nerd Poilievre will always be Harper's bridezilla...

And the hidden hand that is directing his campaign now.

Will drag both of them, and their party down, long before the next election...

Will Pierre Poilievre and his Zombies Take Down The Cons?

The Con leadership race was always going to be a horror show. Most of the candidates and their supporters were some of the worst political freaks this country has ever known.

They were racists, ugly misogynists, vile homophobes, and climate change deniers determined to torch the planet in the name of Big Oil.

And then, when the far right truckers occupied Ottawa and held Canadians hostage for weeks, they became terrorist sympathizers.

And their leader Pierre Poilievre made it clear he would do anything to try to become Prime Minister.

Pierre Poilievre and the Terrorist Threat

Pierre Poilievre has always been attracted to far-right extremists. There he is with Andrew Scheer greeting the United We Roll convoy back in 2019.

Even though it was riddled with racists, religious fanatics, and those who wanted to arrest Justin Trudeau.

Last winter he greeted the convoy that occupied Ottawa with open arms, plying them with coffee and donuts, stealing the hollow word "freedom" from them, and using it himself to mean everything, and nothing.

But this will be the moment that will haunt him forever.

The Day Pierre Poilievre Exposed His Far Right Extremism

As you know, Pierre Poilievre has been running away from the new Con convoy which is now preparing to occupy Ottawa again.

I thought he had finally learned that his close relationship with the convoy terrorists had many decent Canadians turning away in disgust.

And who can blame them?

With the so called Canada Day Convoy pumping out tweets like this one.
