Is Stephen Harper's Fear Campaign Running Out of Fear?

He's been keeping a low profile recently, no doubt huddling with his gargoyles in the PMO, feverishly planning his next move, and who he will be tomorrow.

Mr Nice or Mr Ugly.

But then who can blame him eh? Because by now he must be desperate.

His fear and bigotry campaign has been slammed by even the sheep in the MSM. People are looking at him as if he had exposed himself in public.

As he has done so many times in the past...

More and more Canadians are wondering whether he wants to be their Big Daddy or their Big Brother. Or whether he's finally lost his marbles.

And now to make matters even worse, the latest EKOS poll suggests that his support may be slipping.

The Liberals have bounced back to 32 points in this week’s poll, while the Conservatives have dropped to 30, their lowest point so far this year. It’s a net four-point shift for the Conservatives — from a two-point lead to a two-point deficit.

The flames of bigotry he fanned so monstrously may be fizzling out.

Until quite recently it appeared the prime minister enjoyed a polling advantage on the values front, while many Canadians appeared to be heading down a path of increased cultural intolerance, driven in part by the political debate around terrorism, immigration and cultural accommodation.

That advantage appears to have slipped away; Canadians are now evenly split on whether it is Mr. Harper or Justin Trudeau who best represents their values. While this certainly isn’t the first time we’ve seen the two leaders in a statistical tie, the timing of this shift suggests that something very real is happening.

And he may be running out of the Fear Factor...

A number of recent events could be driving this trend. The results could be blowback over C-51, as voters start to have second thoughts about the scope and purpose of this controversial security bill. Canadians also could be reacting to Mr. Trudeau’s speech on values, which took aim at the prime minister’s comments on the niqab.

The more likely explanation, however, is that the security and culture narrative is beginning to lose strength as the threat of a stagnant and eroding economy takes root in voters’ minds.

Of course it's just a poll, but it does seem to make sense. Fear does fade with the passage of time, raw emotions subside.

And I'm pretty sure that these protests against Bill C-51 are also damaging his cause.

For how can he pose as a Great Freedom Leader when he's acting like a tyrant, wants to turn the country into a police state, and more people are afraid of him than they are of the terrorists?

But yes, isn't it ironic? His fear campaign is running out of fear.

And he must be scared to death...

He acted like a beast but the beast came back to bite him.

It exposed his moral depravity. His vile monstrosity.

And it will help destroy him...

It would certainly save a little bit of my faith in people if they began to actively reject Harper's racist tack. It would really mean something if his popularity tanked because he tried to bring back an age of active race-baiting. Then maybe I would begin to hope again.

And now, our fear inducing Dear Leader's campaign of dread is running out of gas. His only recourse now is extending and expanding our military's "role" in the middle east. Remember though that it's top secret(unless he can use something to get votes).
He'll also hope that some whack job at home goes on a rampage so he can emerge from his closet/bunker to say only he can protect us by taking away our privacy and democratic rights.
Makes me wonder who the real whack job is.

If Harper is a Christian, he shouldn't be fear mongering. It isn't God that gives people a spirit of fear:

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1: 7)

I think it's very likely the RCMP will announce that some "jihadists" have been arrested or brought in for questioning during the election campaign. People that the RCMP have been watching for months or even years.

How about a false flag attack? Could that take place in Canada?

hi Kirby...I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this racist fever will subside, as it has in the past in Canada. Like others in the world our lowest instincts can be aroused, but unlike in other places they do tend to fade into the country's traditional moderation. At least that's what I hope, because a country ravaged by bigotry is not a country worth saving...

hi anon 12:34...yes he is already starting to beat the war drums, the Cons are pumping out ads portraying Justin Trudeau as indecisive and a friend of terrorists, and you can expect it to get worse as he tries to get the fear and loathing going again. But then it is a sign of weakness, and when all you have is fear going for you, they must be desperate...

hi Hugh...yes I saw it and linked to it. As well as pointing out that the Bar Association was not invited to appear before the committee "studying" the bill. Which to me says everything we need to know about the bill, and why it must be scrapped...

hi David...I'm an atheist, but I consider myself more of a Christian than Harper. I try to take the good from religion, but he is just evil, and he respects nothing...
