As a sailor, I know that you can have the fastest boat, and the best crew, but if the wind quits on you, you can still lose.
Which makes me wonder if that is what's happening to Justin Trudeau.
For as this latest poll suggests, the fake WE scandal has had an impact.
When I woke up this morning, it was such a beautiful day I thought it was Friday.
And it wasn't even close !!#@!!
But then neither was this poll.
And it made me feel so much better.
I spent much of the long weekend out on the lake, watching some small but really fast sailing boats take advantage of a very strong wind to skim across the lake.
While also watching the RAF's aerobatic team, the Red Arrows, roar across the sky above.
On their way to the CNE Air Show.
As we all know Andrew Scheer is doing everything he can to make the fake scandal look not only like a real scandal.
But the BIGGEST scandal in the WORLD.
And his latest attempt to pump some more hot air into that dead balloon is to demand that the RCMP investigate Justin Trudeau.
While he goes after Trudeau in the House of Commons and challenges him to surrender or ELSE.
I've been having so much fun enjoying the dying days of summer that I haven't spent much time in my political observatory, scanning the stars, and trying to figure out where this country is going.
And the polls haven't helped since they have been all over the place.
First the Liberals were ahead, then another poll suggested the Cons had taken the lead, only to have yet another poll put the Liberals on top again.
But now another poll is out, and what it suggests couldn't be more disturbing.
It's almost impossible to believe. It's like a scene out of an old made in Harperland horror movie.
Stephen Harper may have led his Con zombies to disaster. His depraved rule may have disgusted more Canadians than any other leader in modern Canadian story.
But it seems many of his faithful followers miss him so much, they want to bring him back from the dead.
Oh well, I suppose it couldn't last forever.
Justin Trudeau couldn't continue to reach new heights of popularity.
Without having to wear an oxygen mask.
So it seems that his long political honeymoon may finally be over.
In my last post I warned that the niqab issue has boosted Stephen Harper's fortunes.
And I have also been warning for weeks what might happen if the progressive parties kept attacking each other instead of joining forces to save our Canada.
And we couldn't rise to the challenge of making that our only cause. And that if we couldn't go big we might as well go home.
Well if this poll is true, we could already be on the verge of disaster.
It was a shocking and deeply disturbing sight. And it could only make Canadians wonder whether Stephen Harper was still mentally fit to be Prime Minister.
For there he was today, trying to mock the size of Justin Trudeau's deficit.
But only managing to look more crazy and more desperate.
I don't know why it's taken so long for many Canadians to be angered by Stephen Harper, considering what he has done to Canada.
But a new EKOS poll shows that anger is growing.
And it has a lot to do with the state of the economy.
Well there he was in this PMO picture, at the Calgary Stampede in his black bad guy cowboy hat, framed between a horse and a horse's ass.
Watching the parade and trying to put on a brave face, or smile like a winner. Or at least open his mouth and show his teeth.
But it couldn't have been easy. Not with Rachel Notley, the new sheriff of Alberta, riding triumphantly past him...
He must have had lockjaw by the time that was over eh?
And of course the latest EKOS poll didn't exactly make him want to stand up and shout "Yee haw or hee haw I'm still a Great Leader !!!!
Summer is finally here, and I couldn't be happier. Not just because I live for this season when everything comes alive.
But also because I know that when this one dies, in the land where summers are so short, so will Stephen Harper's deathly Con regime.
But what I also know, and all progressives need to understand, is that the last part of our long journey to freedom will be fraught with danger.
Because we are now entering the perilous waters of vote splitting. And we could still snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
As I've been saying for quite a while the winds of change are sweeping across this country, and the latest EKOS poll only confirms that.
The NDP is still rising like a rocket.
It's lead over the other parties continues to grow.
And if an election was held tomorrow it would likely be in a position to form a minority government.
For weeks Tom Mulcair and the NDP have been climbing steadily in the polls, and it was clear that if that trend continued it was only a matter of time before they passed the other parties.
Well now they finally appear to have done it.
According to the latest EKOS poll they are now in first place.
Last week I said that the way Tom Mulcair's NDP was surging in the polls it wouldn't be long before it passed both the Liberals and the Cons.
And sure enough that seems to be what's happened.
A new EKOS poll has the NDP on top.
And another orange wave is now a real possibility.
For months Tom Mulcair and the NDP have been creeping up in the polls.
But this latest EKOS poll is still stunning.
For now it's starting to look like an orange surge.
In one of my last posts I wrote about how Stephen Harper had been hit by a perfect storm of bad news.
Which had left him badly shaken up, clinging to his sanity with both hands, and screaming with frustration.
And at a news conference yesterday that was only too apparent. For all the pancake makeup and mascara in the world couldn't conceal the fear in his cold dead eyes.
Or as Chantale Hebert writes, make him look more like a man who is just glad he made it to the weekend.
The brutish Con message has been there from the very beginning, but it just got even more disturbing.
Because there is nothing Stephen Harper will not do or say to try to win another majority.
So if you don't support Bill C-51, his plan to turn us into a police state, you must be with the terrorists.
And if you don't support our Glorious War in Iraq AND Syria, and counting.
You're not a Canadian !!!
He's been keeping a low profile recently, no doubt huddling with his gargoyles in the PMO, feverishly planning his next move, and who he will be tomorrow.
Mr Nice or Mr Ugly.
But then who can blame him eh? Because by now he must be desperate.
I've always thought it was unfair that Tom Mulcair should work so hard and reap such little benefit.
Because the way he grills Stephen Harper in Question Period, like a prosecutor does a criminal, is one of the highlights of my day.
Especially since it drives Harper crazy, and makes him say crazy things like what he said yesterday.
Even though Mulcair's son is a police officer.
So I'm glad to see that all that effort may finally be paying some dividends.
