As a sailor, I know that you can have the fastest boat, and the best crew, but if the wind quits on you, you can still lose.
Which makes me wonder if that is what's happening to Justin Trudeau.
For as this latest poll suggests, the fake WE scandal has had an impact.
When I woke up this morning, it was such a beautiful day I thought it was Friday.
And it wasn't even close !!#@!!
But then neither was this poll.
And it made me feel so much better.
I knew that Andrew Scheer would absolutely hate the Throne Speech, because it never mentioned the holy words "ALBERTA, SASKATCHEWAN, OIL, and PIPELINES.
But did promise that the Trudeau government would step up the fight against climate change, which Scheer doesn't believe in.
And I knew that he needed to make as much noise as possible to remind Canadians that he's still the Con leader, or still had a pulse.
But this is ridiculous.
Well at least now we know why Andrew Scheer has been keeping such a low profile, and looking so weird or so paranoid..
It seems he's been trying to recover from his humiliating election defeat, and figure out who to blame.
And now at last he claims he knows.
As you may know, I thought the last election campaign was one of the most disgusting spectacles I have ever witnessed.
With Andrew Scheer and his filthy Cons taking us to a very dark and dirty place.
But in the midst of that darkness, a young woman in Winnipeg named Maddison Yetman shone like a beacon of decency.
Even as she lay dying.
It was Andrew Scheer's first meeting with his caucus since his election night defeat, and it went on for almost seven hours.
So I'm sure many people waiting outside must have thought that Scheer was flogging himself like a good Opus Dei groupie, and promising real change.
But if they were thinking that, they couldn't be more wrong.
It's been almost a week and I still can't get those amazing election night sights and sounds out of my mind.
The glorious victory, the happy couple, the cheering crowd chanting "Four more years !!!"
And of course the piercing screams of Cons in pain.
Because for many of them it really was a Con apocalypse.
It took a lot of courage for Justin Trudeau to impose a carbon tax on Canadians, in a country where the word "tax" can be political poison.
The Con premiers rose up against him.
And the Ugly American Andrew Scheer vowed to kill the carbon tax in its cradle.
I knew Andrew Scheer would be a poor loser. He was so sure he was going to win, and he lives in his own dark reality.
So I knew he could never accept the way he was humiliated by Justin Trudeau.
Still I was hoping that Scheer might eventually decide to do the honourable thing and resign.
But sadly it seems the Ugly American isn't going anywhere.
For more than two years Andrew Scheer has smeared Justin Trudeau on a daily basis, and recently he seemed sooooo sure he would replace him and become Canada's next prime minister, or Pope.
And so were his ugly Con supporters, who were screaming, and hissing, and fighting over who would get Trudeau's or Trudope's head.
While their stooge media wrote many versions of his obituary.
But when the smoke cleared last night, Trudeau was still standing, still prime minister.
I waited until the very last moment to write this final post of the election campaign, for a very good reason.
It was such a nice day I thought I should take a little more time to reflect on, or at least try to forget the most disgusting campaign I have ever witnessed.
And try above all to remember that Canada, the beautiful country, is not to blame.
But now the last polls are in, and I feel fairly confident that barring a last minute catastrophe, like an asteroid strike, the winner will be...
It's been really quiet in my neighbourhood recently. Most of the tourists have gone, the fairs are over, and most of the party boats will soon be moving to their winter berths.
Which is just as well, since I badly need some quiet time to recover from this hellish election campaign.
Which thanks to the Ugly American Andrew Scheer and his foul RepubliCons has been the filthiest and most un-Canadian campaign I have ever witnessed.
But as I crawl towards the finish line, it's a big consolation to see that Scheer is in worse shape than I am.
Andrew Scheer had a funny look on his face, at a rally in Fredericton this morning. He was trying to look like a winner.
But instead he ended up looking like a desperate loser, after being made to look like a liar. Again.
And although many Canadians already know that Scheer is a serial liar, these could be the lies that cost him the election.
It's been almost thirty years since Preston Manning and his Reform Party cowboys galloped into Ottawa and started trampling on our country and its values.
They had "The West Wants In" tattooed on their...er...saddles, as they stampeded into our parliament.
Parson Manning thundered that they had come to elevate our politics, take big money out them, and make them more God-like. Hallelujah!!!
And, yes, so much for that one...
As Jagmeet Singh heads for the finishing line, still urging Canadians to vote for the NDP even in ridings where that party can only split the vote and elect Cons, his supporters react in kind:
And since I can imagine what they will say, if they elect a Scheer majority that will dismember our country and its values.
For years I dreamed of a mighty progressive coalition that would unite to topple the increasingly sinister Stephen Harper.
And I will never forget how happy I was to see progressives of all colours marching together after the would be dictator prorogued Parliament.
Or forget how much I hoped it would encourage the left to unite. Finally.
So although I'm voting for Justin Trudeau's Liberals, and believe he deserves another majority.
I could live with this.
Two weeks ago after a man tried to attack Justin Trudeau at the Climate March in Montreal, I warned that the threats against Trudeau were escalating out of control.
And that the toxic Trudeau haters were becoming more and more menacing.
Well, this was the scene at a Liberal rally in Mississauga yesterday evening.
It was the best debate of them all, and made the last English debate looked like an out of control kindergarten.
The moderator Patrice Roy was a real professional, there were good questions from real journalists. And there were far fewer insults.
But despite that, there was no clear winner.
Despite what the Cons were quick to claim. Again.
Ever since Justin Trudeau became Liberal leader the grubby Cons have been trying to smear him in the most vile manner.
Stephen Harper did his best to debase him by claiming "he was not ready" over and over again.
But it's the ugly American Andrew Scheer who is responsible for the dirtiest political campaign this country has ever known.
Last April Andrew Scheer had a secret meeting in a secluded lodge in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, to discuss how best to defeat Justin Trudeau's Liberals.
The day-long strategy session, held April 11 at the Azuridge Estate Hotel in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, brought together some of Calgary’s most prominent business leaders and high-profile Conservatives and their operatives at the invitation of a little-known pro-oil advocacy group called the Modern Miracle Network.
And one of the reasons it was so secret was the presence of a Republican operative with a very unsavoury reputation.
