It took a lot of courage for Justin Trudeau to impose a carbon tax on Canadians, in a country where the word "tax" can be political poison.
The Con premiers rose up against him.
And the Ugly American Andrew Scheer vowed to kill the carbon tax in its cradle.
For Andrew Scheer it must have seemed like a religious revelation, of the very wrong kind. The kind born in the hell of his own making.
For years he has tried to ignore the subject of climate change, and flagellated the very idea of a carbon tax as only a kooky Con could.
But then, like a Biblical deluge, it started raining, and raining, and flooding and flooding.
And the hapless Scheer was finally forced to admit that climate change is real.
Ever since he came to power Doug Ford has launched one attack after the other on the Liberal government's carbon tax. As only a political thug and a Con clown could.
He calls it the "worst tax ever." He is spending $30 million dollars to challenge it in court.
Even though it is the best way to fight climate change, which Ford doesn't really believe in either.
And now even as massive floods are threatening communities all over Ontario.
Trying to get Canadians to agree to a carbon tax must be for Justin Trudeau like trying to roll a massive boulder, or Doug Ford, up a steep hill.
The country is hooked on oil, many Canadians love their cars, or their big shiny trucks, almost as much as they love their children.
A Con cabal of climate change deniers is doing all it can to sabotage the Liberal government's carbon tax plans, and drive them from power, by whatever low means necessary.
And as we all know, Andrew Scheer is apparently planning to make the carbon tax issue, THE issue of the election campaign.
He's the self appointed leader of the anti-carbon tax gang. And Doug Ford has been on a rampage recently.
Yesterday he officially killed Ontario's cap-and-trade program, while his ghastly Cons sang the Monster Mash.
The day before he met with weak Andrew Scheer to coordinate their planned assault on Justin Trudeau's federal carbon tax.
Reinforce their power relationship.
You might think that Andrew Scheer would tone down his anti-carbon tax rhetoric, now that Trudeau's new plan to fight climate change has been well received by most in the media.
But it seems that Scheer just can't help himself.
He has no plan of his own, but is still wallowing in his own planet burning excrement.
As you may know, Maxime Bernier has always reminded me of the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz.
The one who is travelling with Dorothy and the others, in the hope that the Wizard will give him a brain.
Because as he proved again yesterday, he clearly doesn't have one.

It was a showdown that has been building for some time. So I was glad to see Justin Trudeau finally take on the grubby gang of premiers who have refused to join his plan to fight climate change.
The ones who have been trying to portray a federal carbon tax as something satanic, instead of the best way to reduce emissions and green our economy.
And the way Trudeau went about doing it couldn't be more brilliant.
Earlier today I wrote about the way Canadians could punish the members of the Carbon Gang for waging war on the federal carbon tax.
Even though scientists believe that they are the best way to fight climate change, and green our economy.
Well now it appears that one of the Carbon Gang members, Doug Ford, has just shot himself in the foot.
And inflicted a three billion dollar penalty on his own province.
They are the ring leaders of the so-called Carbon Gang. The gang that never saw a carbon tax they didn't want to kill.
And they like to brag about that all the time. Or should I say they did.
Because unfortunately for them a new apocalyptic report makes what they're doing look both crazy AND criminal.
So much so that Andrew Scheer is now complaining that Justin Trudeau's Liberals are the ones who are consumed with carbon taxes.
Not him.
As we all know Andrew Scheer is on a creepy crusade to destroy Justin Trudeau.
And he was counting on the federal government's carbon tax to help him do that.
The plan was he would attack the tax like a rabid hyena. Trudeau would defend it. The mob would scream for money, or blood.
Until Scheer destroyed Justin and became Prime Minister.
In fact, so confident was Scheer that he couldn't lose, that he even challenged Trudeau to "Bring it on."
As you may know, I consider Andrew Scheer to be a serial liar, a man who lies almost as much as Donald Trump does.
A liar who should have a flashing red light attached to the end of his large pointy nose to warn others he's coming.
But this latest lie is so bad it's ridiculous.
It could only happen in Alberta, or in the battered petro-state that Stephen Harper bequeathed this country formerly known as Harperland.
For on the day that our parliament endorsed the Paris Climate Change Agreement.
The House of Commons voted 207 to 81 to endorse the Paris agreement on climate change tonight, after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau outlined a national carbon price plan Monday that will begin in 2018.
And the Cons to their eternal shame voted against it.
All I could hear was the buzzing sound of Michelle Rempel making an absolute fool of herself. Again.

But when the meeting was over there was little to celebrate.

As I've been warning recently, Stephen Harper's mental state is clearly growing more unstable by the day.
The exhaustion of all those foreign photo-ops, combined with the shock of seeing his beloved Albertonia torpedoed by low oil prices, and his budget surplus going up in flames, has driven him to the brink.
And there is no better example of that than his wildly oscillating position on a carbon tax.
Just ten days ago he called one "crazy." Or CRAAAAAAAZY.
But in the CBC interview the other night, while being stroked with a feather by Peter Mansbridge, he all but called it a good idea.
