Stephen Harper and the Mean Streak of the Con Regime

There are so many reasons to despise Stephen Harper and his monstrous Con regime.

For what they have done to Canada, and what they might do to it if they are re-elected.

But for me the main reason is what Gerald Caplan calls its mean streak.

There is something unique about Stephen Harper’s government, a uniqueness that stems from the Prime Minister himself. As articulated by his former adviser Tom Flanagan, Mr. Harper “can be suspicious, secretive and vindictive, prone to sudden eruptions of white-hot rage over meaningless trivia … he believes in playing politics right up to the edge of the rules.”

A democratic culture demands civil discourse and a certain respect for one’s opponents. Mr. Harper and his thuggish minions reject this tradition. They don’t debate, they demonize. They are routinely uncivil, cruel and bully without mercy. They know this and revel in it.

Because Caplan is right. They are foul bullies, their morally depraved leader is both cruel and crazy. Who knows what they might do if they win the election?

Every time you think they’ve reached absolute rock bottom, they always find a road that runs lower yet. Hard to imagine what unplumbed depths they could sink to over four more years.

And of course you know that I feel the same way he does about Chris Alexander.

And Jason Kenney...

According to cabinet minister Jason Kenney, critics of the Israeli government actually “advocate the destruction of Israel and the destruction of the Jewish people.”

Who has been crawling along the rock bottom, or the pit of depravity, for years.

But what bothers me a bit is that Caplan, like others in the MSM, seems almost surprised at how low we have fallen. When Stephen Harper has been a bully from the moment he came to power.

His callous cruelty has been on display for even longer than that...

In terms of the unemployed… don’t feel particularly bad for many of these people. They don’t feel bad about it themselves, as long as they’re receiving generous social assistance and unemployment insurance.

Stephen Harper 1997

And what bothers me even more is that I fear that some people in this country, including still many in the MSM, have come to accept that bestial behaviour as the new normal.

And that unless the NDP and the Liberals change their minds about not using attack ads against the Cons, which I wrote about here.

We may never shock those Canadians out of that torpor, and disabuse them of that notion, or show them how dangerous that behaviour could be.

What it could mean for our medicare system, which he is stealthily trying to strangle.

After trying to kill it with neglect.

Or what that behaviour might mean for what's left of the rest of our social safety net.

So I really think the progressive parties should rethink their decision not to attack the Cons like they attack them. And may I suggest that one of their ads should be based on this story.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper “smirked” and told Kathleen Wynne in a private meeting that Canadians need to save for their own retirement because‎ it’s not up to government to look after them, the Star has learned.

Not just because of Harper's views on pensions, but because of the way he smirked...

For surely that must tell Canadians all they need to know about Stephen Harper's mean streak.

That he is a bully so brutish and callous he wouldn't give a damn if millions of seniors, in an aging country, lived out their lives in grinding poverty...

And this would be my suggested punchline.

Stephen Harper: not a Canadian leader.

A man who smirks at the pain of others.

And is too cruel and crazy to govern...

It looks like Harper & Co. are going to go more nasty and negative and this may just drive away enough progressive voters to let him squeak back in even though about 60% of the CDN public hates him.

Also, unless Mulcair & Trudeau start getting more negative and aggressive, they're going to lost the P.R. battle before it starts.

Right about now, July, Canada's future is in the balance.

Oh and did you see today that the country's trade deficit increased last month? Joe Oliver and his 'no recession' mantra makes him one of the best snake oil salesmen the country has ever seen.

Harper and the Cons are political vermin. Rats that need to be exterminated at the ballot box this fall. It won't be easy as they are going to cheat, lie, intimidate, steal and disenfranchise. Proto-fascist scum from the top down to the last of their amoral, unethical, brown-shirted base.

Stevie and co. are the masters of using the false dichotomy/ false dilemma, learned from the likes of George Dubya Bush: "Either you are either with us or you are with the terrorists."

Harper is the worst corrupt and evil PM, in the recorded history of this Nation. However, we the people are at fault. We sit back and B&B about Harper and his henchmen and do nothing about it. Nor, do the opposition do anything about Harper and his lies, deceit, corruption, thefts and dirty tactics. Every day that evil monster is in office, Canada is being sold out to foreigners. Especially sold out to Communist China, with his FIPA deal. China will be in Canada for, a minimum of 31 years. The only place that could erupt is BC and the storm is gathering.

Who in Canada will lead the revolution? No-one that's who so, here we sit while the s.o.b destroys this country. Harper is going to cheat to win this election, just as he has done for every election.

Harper has aged a lot in 10 years (not just the greying of the helmet hair, but also the circles under his eyes)

It would be great to create ads that show video clips of what Harper said in 2005/2006 about promising to bring transparency, openness, honesty, accountability to Ottawa if elected, followed by showing what he has brought eg. "Fair" Elections Act, Bill C-51, thumbing his nose at the Supreme Court, etc.

the citizens of this country voted Harper and his herd into office more than once. it isn't just harper who is a nasty piece of business, its those who voted for him. Those who didn't bother to vote aren't that great either. if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

What people don't really think about a whole lot is one of these days its their ox which will be gored. How will they think about things then. it will happen to most Canadians when Steve begins his final assault on our health care system.
