Stephen Harper's Outrageous Middle East Junket

When I first heard that Stephen Harper was going to visit Israel, his spiritual homeland, at first I was amused.

I figured it was just another excuse to escape the Senate scandal. And I couldn't wait to see him driving his getaway burro through the streets of Jerusalem.

Trying to look like a Canadian Messiah. Instead of just a corrupt leader on the lam.

But then when I saw how many people were going with him I was shocked.

The Prime Minister is to travel to Israel this weekend with a delegation of more than 150, including a big chunk of his cabinet – not just Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird, or the trade minister or international co-operation minister, but also Industry Minister James Moore, Energy Minister Joe Oliver and Employment Minister Jason Kenney.

Was the entire Con regime fleeing the country?

And was Great Meshugana Leader visiting Israel, or INVADING it?

And of course now I'm OUTRAGED.

Taxpayers will pay for the travel and hotel costs of private participants joining Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s trip to the Middle East, in one of the largest Canadian delegations mounted for a foreign visit.

It includes not only government figures – six cabinet ministers, MPs, political staff and diplomats – but also private participants invited by the Prime Minister’s Office, such as business people and representatives of Jewish community groups and other non-governmental organizations.

Because NOTHING can justify the size or the cost of such an obvious JUNKET. Not in a time of austerity. Not when we're paying for it.

And not when trade between the two countries is so puny.

But then Harper has always had this bizarre obsession with Israel.

Stephen Harper’s visit to Israel has been eight years in the making. But ideologically and politically, Israel has loomed large in Canada’s foreign policy since the early days of his government in 2006.

His unconditional support of Benjamin Netanyahu's right wing settler regime has been shabby and disgraceful.

And scandalous beyond measure....

He has done Canada's reputation, and the cause of peace in the Middle East incredible damage.

“The Harper government explicitly rejects even-handedness in the Middle East. It shows no interest in being ‘fair-minded,’ ” former prime minister Joe Clark writes in his new book, “How we Lead: Canada in a Century of Change.” “Those outspoken positions limit, or eliminate, Canada’s capacity as a mediator, or even as a calming influence,” said Clark.

And the scary part is that by visiting the Middle East at this time he will be in position to do even more damage, by sabotaging John Kerry's peace mission to the region.

You know John Kerry, the guy Stephen Harper figures owes him a pipeline.

And of course by promoting his buddy Benny's view that Iran is dangerous and should be bombed. IMMEDIATELY.

Great eh?

You know I've heard a lot of explanations for Stephen Harper's bizarre obsession with  Israel. But at this point I don't really care. And only his psychiatrist knows for sure.

But what I do know is that it looks like he's trying to buy the Jewish vote, which is sure to REALLY annoy a lot of other voters.

So he will pay for this outrageous junket. We'll make sure of that.

And all of the above will only help motivate us even more to do what must be done to defeat that greasy little monkey.

Before he destroys what's left of this country.

And threatens the whole world...

Hi Simon, my question is why is this not the number one story in Canada. This is millions being spent for no ethical purpose. He is just waiting for Mulclair or Trudeau to object so he can label them anti Semitic. One thing he knows is how to play the game dirty.

Well lets face it. Our PM's insane affection for Israel is based on a bizarre Evangelically insane literal bible interpretation of magic sand and Rapture; and even more insane and internationally embarrassing is that all this crazy-ass make believe fairy tale fantasy bullshit has usurped rationality and currently is the basis of Canadian foreign policy when it comes to Israel, and to our looking the other way when it comes to their illegal yet ongoing settlement of Palestinian territory. It's enough to make me puke.

hi Steve...As you point out, the answer I believe is that many people including most of the MSM are afraid to criticize this obvious junket designed for the glorification of Stephen Harper, because they are afraid to be called anti-semitic. But I am not afraid because I don't have a bigoted bone in my body, and all I want to see is all the countries in the Middle East living in peace with each other. Which is why I don't consider Harper to be a real friend of Israel, for like Benny and his gang he would only lead the Israelis into more wars and more death and destruction. It is a dirty game, and needless to say Harper is no leader...

hi wazz...as I said in my post I have no idea what is motivating Harper. Even the Israelis can't figure him out. He is no doubt playing to the Christian Dominionists in his rabid base who claim to love Israel, but only because they believe their Messiah will return to that place to scoop up the faithful, while leaving the Jews and the rest of us heathen scum behind. It may also be because when Harper was a young reformer he associated with some extremely ugly anti-semites and is now trying to over compensate. Which needless to say is a subject the MSM won't touch with a ten foot pole. But does explain why he believes that by depriving the Liberal party of Jewish votes and money he can help destroy it. Which of course is bullshit, since I don't know any Jews who support either his domestic policies, or his warlike foreign policy. Finally, it may be that he genuinely feels an attachment to the Jewish religion, and is planning to convert some day, like Tony Blair converted to Catholicism after he left office. With Harper anything is possible. But the bottom line is that he has crippled our power to influence vents in that volatile region, disgraced a proud tradition of Canadian diplomacy, and would lead us all to disaster. And of course that a junket, is a junket, is a JUNKET. And for that he will pay...

Somebody has to stand up and ask about this so-called prudent fiscal conservative's gross waste of their holy grail, "taxpayers' dollars".

Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s Neoconservatism: This entire “hard right” movement is a crock. It is not a religious evangelist movement, OR a Christian moral movement, nor a Zionist movement.

It is a corporate movement.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Why is Canada’s right-wing Bush-lite Prime Minister Stephen Harper *SO* fanatical about supporting Israel bombing innocent Palestinian civilians? What’s the secret agenda at work here?

‎Surprise! It’s money: Canada does ONE BILLION DOLLARS of trade with Israel annually. Most of it military. It’s always about the money eh?

At the 5:30 mark.

Maybe the RCMP should visit the PMO and collect evidence while King Rat is out of town?

Did you know that media companies pay the Harper government more than $8000 for EACH reporter/journalist that flies with Harper?

To criticize Zionist/settler bullshit isn't "anti-semitic." All Jews aren't with the program of Israeli apartheid. Surprisingly it is easier to have stuff published that criticizes Benny the Butcher or the apartheid policies of his ilk in Israeli media than that in the US or Canada.

the cons closed coast guard stations in B.C. to 'save money', they fired 10K federal workers to save money, they are closing office which provide services to vets 'to save money'. so why are they spending all this money to take a vacation to Israel. Its not like stevie slime has anything to of value to add to the situation and he avoids going anywhere there is international conversations going on. it is doubtful he is even trying to woe jewish voters. they guy truly is short a couple of cards from the deck.

“There is no question in my mind that Canada will always be, must always be, a strong, true friend to Israel, not just for historical reasons or for moral reasons, but because supporting the only real democracy in the Middle East in an area that is rife with strife and conflict is a path toward a more stable, more peaceful, more accepting world,” said Trudeau. “So I am happy to say that I am a strong, and the Liberal Party…is a strong friend of Israel.

So said Justin Trudeau last month.

By the way, did you also cry out when Canada paid for private citizens on trips to China and India?

Simon said...

hi rumleyfips...well that's one way of looking at it ;) I really can't wait for the day we can send them all into exile....

Simon said...

hi Nadine...yes it is about the money as well, although The Israelis do far better from us that we do from the, But you're also right about the weapons trade. Most Canadians don't realize what a budding military industrial complex we have. Or that we are peddling those weapons all over the Middle East. For that alone the Cons should be arrested...

Simon said...

hi Skinny Dipper...yes it is a frightening thought isn't it? But doesn't Lord Harper look good sitting on a donkey? ;)

Simon said...

hi lagatta...yes it really is outrageous isn't it? They are killing jobs and slashing services everywhere, but they can waste all that money on an expensive junket like that one. Canadians may not care or understand the political situation in the Middle East, but seeing the cons spend all that dough to try to buy votes, should drive them crazy and hurt the Cons...

Simon said...

hi Edstock...now that's a good idea. If I had any idea how to jimmy a lock I might try that myself.... ;)

Simon said...

hi David...yes I am aware of the fees reporters must pay to travel with Lord Harper and his gang. And that $8000 dollars is cheaper than the usual fare, no doubt because Harper is really interested in making a splash. Sadly I have to wonder how many media outfits can even afford that? Since that junket is just one mind numbing photo-op after the other, and its real news value is probably zilch...

Simon said...

hi kootcoot...of course you're right. I am a friend of both ordinary Israelis and Palestinians, but I don't hesitate to criticize both sides when I feel I need to, because only the truth will ever end that conflict. And I'm proud to say that I don't have a single Jewish friend who supports either the Con regime or the settler regime of Benjamin Netanyahu. Both men are poison, and the people of that tortured region need leaders like them like they need a hole in the head...

Simon said...

hi e.a.f. ...as I said in my post I really have no idea what Harper is thinking. It may win him the support of conservative Jewish leaders and make his base feel good, But I very much doubt it will win him any votes, and the obvious nature of this junket may lose him more than a few...

Simon said...

hi Albert....one of the things I hate the most is that Harper is trying to make it sound like he is Israel's only friend in Canada. When as you point out the other political parties have always expressed their support for that country. And what Harper is doing is simply favouring the Likud. While I support the decent Israelis and the peace movement that opposes the, for only peace can guarantee the security of all the countries in the region. And yes, since you ask, I did write about and complain loudly about both his trip to India and China. Did you not see how I lampooned his great Samosa Trip to India. I must have written about five posts, and greatly enjoyed writing all of them... ;)
