Stephen Harper and the Monstrous Con Book Burners

There was a moment during last night's excellent Fifth Estate documentary The Silence of the Labs, when I felt dizzy, almost faint.

Like that other Simon, in Lord of the Flies did.

When he stared at the head of the pig on a stick, and realized the monster was THEM.

The boys who would kill him for telling the TRUTH.

Just like the Harper Cons are killing this country. For this is MONSTROUS.

In the past five years the federal government has dismissed more than 2,000 scientists, and hundreds of programs and world-renowned research facilities have lost their funding. Programs that monitored things such as smoke stack emissions, food inspections, oil spills, water quality and climate change have been drastically cut or shut down.

It's absolute MADNESS.

“We are flying along in an airplane, and we’ve put curtains over the windshield of those pilots, of that flight-crew, and we’ve turned off the instruments. We don’t know what is coming tomorrow, let alone next year in terms of some of these potentially catastrophic incidents in our oceans.”

It's a crime against science, and a crime against Canada.

Scientists say the closure of some of the world's finest fishery, ocean and environmental libraries by the Harper government has been so chaotic that irreplaceable collections of intellectual capital built by Canadian taxpayers for future generations has been lost forever.

It can never be forgiven, and neither can this truth be denied.

The Cons are the book burners of the 21st Century.

And the most evil government in Canadian history.

Who would blind their own people so they can rape them in the darkness.

And look how long is their list of victims.

The criminals, the bullies, the BASTARDS.

The monster, who would muzzle scientists.

The maniac who would scorch the truth, and torch the planet.

But he will not get away with it, and neither will his ghastly Cons. For to let them escape the judgement of history would be to destroy OURSELVES.

And a country that does not rise up against those who burn books, or bury them in landfill, is not a country that will long survive.

We must fight them in the name of science and reason.

We must fight them in the name of Canada.

Until the glorious day when the book burner in chief is driven from power.

And consumed in the flames of his own MADNESS...

hi David...thanks for the link, I have now added it to my post. As for the Orwell clip it couldn't be more appropriate, in a country where a reactionary government spends millions trying to brainwash its own people into believing that up is down or bad is good. And the scary part is that so many Canadians are so passive they roll over on command. This country is a dictator's wet dream, and so much less than it once was. But of course, we are going to change that... :)

Don't forget the closure of 6 DFO libraries with the shredding of data collected over the last century. Now no baseline can be established for comparison when levels of pollution are measured. So the tar sands can just plow on and all measures of pollution are shelved. The cons hate science because it contradicts their fundamentalist theology. Apparently man is on earth to do anything. Canada is in grave danger from the Harper con's.
