Yesterday I shocked some of my gloomy friends by telling them there was a silver lining in the stinky cloud of a RepubliCon minority.
Because Stephen Harper must be screaming like a banshee that he didn't get a majority.
But today I'm even happier because I'm now convinced that the BEST is still to come.
Because becoming a Con Prime Minister at a time like this, is like having an ideological anvil around your neck.....at a shipwreck.
While we get to watch him drown.....or SHRINK...
He promised he won't raise taxes. He says he won't take us into a deficit. Even though most serious economists don't think that can be avoided.
"If the government is to restore balance, taxes will have to be raised and/or spending cut, further pressuring an already weak economy. If the government accepts a deficit, then the premium in Canadian assets – and in voters' minds – deriving from years of sustained fiscal balance will be lost."
So where will he find the money? Eh? Will he be a liar AND a deficitmonger? Or will he cut services to Canadians in the midst of a brutal recession..... and make himself the most HATED man in Canada?
Which would practically ensure his early departure.
By next year, the Liberals will have a new leader who will be much more popular than Mr. Dion. There is likely to be a deepening, American-induced recession. Circumstances for the Prime Minister will be twice as tough as they were in this campaign.
And BURY the RepubliCons for a generation.
Oh no. How HORRIBLE. Do you like the idea of watching Great Garden Gnome Leader shrink inch by painful inch? Or try to swim with his rabid neocon ideological anvil around his neck? Glug. Glug. Glug.
I do.
As I said before, if you like your revenge served cold and DELICIOUS. And in about a YEAR.
Mmmmmm. Yummy.
And you don't mind treading water until then...as our economy tanks.
The BEST is still to come....

The only thing I disagree with is that Stephane Dion will not be the leader. I prefer that he stays and rebuilds the party.
I agree with Deb. Even wrote to M. Dion and the party.
I don't know if I would have said it was an anvil around his neck, I don't think he even knows the ship is sinking. I think he's arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic while the orchestra plays "abide with me" and the water comes up around their ankles.
Hi Deb...I think Lawrence Martin is just being realistic. With the knives out already for Dion I don't think he stands a chance. I'm very conflicted about Dion myself. His lack of political skills makes me so frustrated sometimes. But I also recognize that he's a decent person who deserves to be treated better than he has...
Hi Beijing York !! That's because you're also a good person. But as I told Deb I'm afraid the die is cast. The way the nest of snakes in the backrooms have turned on him makes it almost certain he will go. Let's face it he's not a very good politician, but he has an old fashioned sense of decency, and I have to admit I'll miss him...
Hi bribri !! What I meant to say is that he is the WRONG man at the wrong time. His neocon philosophy has been discredited in the U.S. and his promise not to raise taxes and still not go into a deficit is Voodoo economics...or just plain FRAUD.
However, if I could hang an anvil around his neck at a shipwreck I would... :)
