The Sunset of the Monstrous Harper Regime

It still seems hard to believe. Hard to believe that today is the day we will finally get a chance to take down the Con monster Stephen Harper.

And take back our Canada.

For while there is still much work to be done to get out the vote, and make sure that Harper and his filthy Cons don't steal the election.

It does seem the sun is finally going down on the Harper regime.

The latest polls are all favourable. Even EKOS now has the Liberals surging.

And all are suggesting that Justin Trudeau is poised to become our new Prime Minister.

But the monster is desperate and angry.

His lying ads are bombarding the airwaves. He has the support of almost all the mass media in this country.

His foul Cons are playing dirty.

Residents in a Don Valley West neighbourhood have been blitzed with flyers over the past week linking Liberal leader Justin Trudeau to Ontario Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne, and suggesting that a vote for Trudeau is a vote endorsing Wynne’s controversial sex-ed curriculum.

Trying to harness homophobia, as he harnessed anti-Muslim feelings to try to set Canadians against each other, and set this country on fire.

And of course a monster like that one, who would end his campaign licking the Ford brothers like fatty lollipops, and would use fear to try to scare voters into supporting him, is quite capable of stealing an election.

So we can't take anything for granted. The Con's sinister Poutine gang will be out there trying to cause mass confusion...

So we need to remain vigilant, and report any suspicious activity to the places I wrote about here.

And above all we need to keep trying to get out the vote. Keep trying to convince our families, friends, neighbours, and all those we come into contact with today, about the importance of casting a ballot.

And what documents they need to take to the polling station.

Because every vote counts, and could make the difference between victory or disaster.

I'm not going to say who I think you should vote for, because that's your business, and I've always tried to be as non-partisan as possible.

All I will say is that I believe either of these two leaders would make a good Prime Minister...

Because although I have my differences with both of them, I haven't the slightest doubt that my precious Canadian values would be safe in their hands.

Which for me is all that counts. Period.

And all I ask is that they work together to bring down the squalid bigot Stephen Harper...

But what I will ask you is to please try not to waste your votes. And wherever possible vote strategically.

Because we can't afford to waste any ammunition, this battle must be won riding by riding.

And this is the time to put our country before our parties...

As for me, this day couldn't arrive soon enough, after more than nine years of blogging on a daily basis to fulfil a solemn vow I made so long ago: to blog every day until the Con regime was toppled. And ground into the dirt of history.

Which was of course harder than I imagined at the time, and has had quite an effect on my life. I have had to sacrifice a lot of things I enjoy doing like poetry and painting. It has isolated me from some of my friends who can't understand why I'm so obsessed with politics. Which is something I deeply regret.

And of course I also regret that I couldn't have done a better job. That I didn't have the talent or the organizational skills, and was too shy to be able to personally move more people to action.

But I'm still happy this morning because I know that after almost 4,500 posts, and more images of Stephen Harper with a pig's snout and ears than you can imagine circulating on the internet, I couldn't have tried harder.

What I also know is that I couldn't have done it without the incredible support of those of you who read this humble blog. For which I will be eternally grateful.

And of course what makes me want to sing with joy, is that I feel that our dream is finally about to come true.

And that we are finally about to topple this monster and his foul regime...

And take our country back.

So I leave you with this song, from two bands at both ends of the country, singing together.

Go forth proudly today and vote together for the Land You Love...

Yup. Imagine October 20th.

Stephen Harper and his monstrous regime ravaged this country but could never break our spirit.

Or kill our precious Canadian values.

The moment we have been dreaming about for so long is finally here.

The nightmare is almost over.

And a new and better day is finally dawning...

Here's what Canada's tough on drugs Prime Minister had to say about his close friend, Toronto's mayor Rob Ford:

Politics makes for interesting bedfellows, particularly when one is desperate for a few extra votes.

Heading out to vote soon. My wife and I will not let you down. We will not let Canada down. The great social experiment that Canadians have aspired to will continue. We will repair the damage caused by the Reformacons and resume our journey in providing the world with a kinder, more generous, more tolerant, more equitable society that can still be an example to our international neighbours. We will show the world that the past 10 years have been a nightmarish blight on Canada's history and we will fix the broken democracy that one psychopath has determined to destroy.
I believe in Canada - our reputation as a peace loving country will be restored. We can feel proud of ourselves once again.
Everyone must get out and vote strategically - the future is in our hands...

Thank you Simon for staying on this very creepy bully of a man for the past 4500 or so posts, I've read every one of them and you speak truth to power. Hope upon hope that he's finished as of today and can go on to a cushy private sector appointment somewhere in the tar sands, gee, there must be someone needing a high priced mail room clerk somewhere. I admit feeling deflated over the course of the campaign and still haven't counted my chickens but now more than ever, Trudeau and Mulcair must put the country first and ensure this deplorable piece of shit never is at the reins of this fine country ever again. Good Luck today.

Long time reader here, although I seldom comment, I feel I need to thank you Simon for all your work over the years spreading the message. Regardless of what happens today, I feel that bloggers like you have really helped move the needle in our favour since the last election. We need to hit the big RESET button on this country today, and I have faith that the ABC masses will be victorious. I'm heading out to vote in about an hour, and I'l be dropping my ballot with a little extra "umph!" this time!

Simon,
As with bcwaterboy, I too have read every one of your 4,500+ posts. Have responded to you on several occasions, mainly to thank you for all the effort you have put into your blog. For your passion about this country and her citizens, thank you for sharing your heartfelt beliefs and values. You hung in there through this all too long journey, despite feeling of despair at times, but never gave up. That is an enormous commitment and I am forever grateful to you.

I've lost 'friends' along the way due to my obsession with politics. So be it.

If we have the good fortune to see the end of Harper tonight, it will be with a joyful sense of renewal and hope. That being said, your many supporters will miss you very much. Enjoy the new chapter in your life, Simon. You deserve it.

Thank you, with all my heart, for your efforts.

Firstly, thank you Simon for all your efforts...it cant be easy....never is when you are up against a dicktator...
I figure Stevo can now get a gig as a game show host...or maybe he will just quietly retire to Alberta and sulk...
either way....Fuck off Harper....and your rotten party with you.

Thank you Simon for the energy and effort.
I just got back from voting. I was on the list and had my card with my address nd my drivers license but that was not enough. Mu license showed a Post Office box and I needed to show another document with a street and number featured. I used a CPP T4a.
Please take lots of ID when you leave to vote.

Simon: you deserve a break but I hope to hear from you again soon.

BCWB, Rev, and Wendy... I echo your comments of appreciation for Simon's blog opus.

I too have great respect and appreciation for Simon's dedicated hard work and unfailing focus. Years of postings, thousands of insightful words and timely links - all pointing out the outrages of the 'Harper Government'. Including the sad, angry, humorous and biting political caraciture cartoons cobbled (with a serial cast of rogues) - the truth of a thousand words in every panel.

Thank you Simon for your passion and vision for a better Canada. You have informed, fortified and inspired many across the country.

Well well water deep subject. Harper is cheating again he has overrun the voting booths with card carrying members of the CPC as 'volunteers'. He has printed spoiled ballots with 'oh my god' wait for it ink blotches. Frick that ended in the sixties I believe [ink blotches]. Now we got em again? A failed government doing what it can to hang on to power? Spoiled ballots everyone that has a home printer knows that don't happen [ink blotches] because we bought our printers Harper did not provide them. Also a number of voters received incorrect voter registration cards? Since Harper's dictatorial take over of Elections Canada it seems the slimy Hyena Harper has defeated us in a whole new way, well known in banana republics though...

If he wins today it is through cheat lye and deceit just how Hyena's capture their prey...

Simon, from the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your never ending defense of Canadian values. For some time now, your blog has been the very first stop of our day with that first cup of coffee. Throughout the day, return visits were a must to review reader comments. You are so creative and entertaining while being able to capture the essence of all the issues. We did appreciate your daily entries that reflected the truth and not just opinions; all the sordid details that Canadians should be aware of were revealed and backed up with a reference to their sources. Your dedication to this cause is commendable and because of it, you have made this very long campaign bearable.

Harper thought he gave himself an advantage by forcing an 11-week election. But, because of certain events, it worked against him for it gave Canadians many opportunities to witness the sheer ugliness within the man. He proved time and time again that he is a racist through and through and cares little for the Canadian people or for Canada, for that matter. It should be noted that any person who has voted for this man in the past must partly take responsibility for what he has done. This time around with all that is known about him, it means that the voter actually condones his behaviour!

Apparently, the shredder trucks were working overtime on Parliament Hill last Friday! Just what was the nature of those documents being shredded or boxed up and taken away? Who knows? We may never know the worst of it.

Whatever the outcome today, the Liberals, NDP, and Greens will have their work cut out for them to undo the damage inflicted by harper and his boys in short pants. The very first item on their agenda should be to fix Canada’s politics; there is something fundamentally wrong when we can democratically elect a dictator! This should never be allowed to happen again, ever.

We have a bottle of champagne on ice and tonight we will toast each conservative defeat. At the end of it all, we will either be stone cold sober or out cold! Hopefully, we wake up tomorrow morning with the mother of all hangovers... but, regardless of the weather, the sun will be shining.

Thank you again, Simon, you are awesome!!!!

Yo, Simon.... it's gonna be a Liberal landslide victory because the NDP and union vote is voting strategically to stop Harper. Yes, the NDP past vote is flowing to the Liberals and that may well be the demise of the NDP nationally.

Don't be surprised if the NDP elects less than 12 MPs which would make them not an official party. That will be the bitter result for all the Harper-hating Dippers ... the destruction of the national NDP .... and a powerful free hand for all the old Liberal crooks hiding behind Justin the Great.

Green Shift Carbon Tax coming very soon.... believe it ...!!!!

Simon!!!! The NDP vote has collapsed in the Atlantic Provinces moreso than the Con vote!!!!

Thanks again, Simon,

With Harper going, I feel like I can breathe again.

That the Cons still managed to win 99 or 100 seats is mind boggling! It may take 8 years for the Cons to rebuild, so we must remain vigilant against a new Con leader such as Jason Kenny or Doug Ford! 8-)

lagatta à montréal said...

I'm very glad that the Cons have bit the dust, but that doesn't entail any illusions in the Liberals and in upper-class twits. I take it that you don't speak French; you'd cringe if le Dauphin made equivalent errors in English.

Thanks for calling me slime. The sentiment is mutual.

And you are pleased at the supposed demise of the only actual left party (in the sociological sense, with roots in labour, agrarian radicalism and social movements)? You mean that you want the Canadian state to be the same as its neighbour to the south?

hi Morlock...yes Christmas came early, and what a wonderful sight it was. It's probably going to take a few days to sink in, but it certainly is one of the happiest days of my life...

hi political junkie....yes the man has no morals, and has always been a ghastly hypocrite. But I'm pretty sure that his sordid coupling with the Ford brothers was for many people the straw that broke the back of the Con regime....

Simon said...

hi Liberta....it seems that enough people voted strategically that we did take back our country and the future is back in our hands...

Simon said...

hi bcwaterboy....well thank you for following this blog for so long, and since I'm writing this after the election what a great days it is, and I'm in the clouds. How long did we have to wait, but now it all seems worthwhile...

Simon said...

hi Rev....thank you for your kind words, but I think we all helped shift the needle. The Canadian values that Harper and his thugs assaulted could not be destroyed, and in the end they destroyed him. It couldn't be a better end to that horror story. And after worrying so long about what that monster was doing to our country, I am now wonderfully at peace....

Simon said...

hi Wendy....thank you for your kind words, and for reading my blog for so long. But all I did was live up to the values my parents raised me to believe in. And Harper and his thugs offended them all. I honestly have never seen such an amoral person, or a Canadian leader so cruel and evil. I'm not going anywhere. I will keep blogging but I might take the occasional day off now that he has been defeated and we have our country back. I will still write about politics, but now I'll be free to write about other things as well, and I'm looking forward to that....

Simon said...

hi anon 3:45....thanks for your nice comment. As I told Wendy Harper and his Cons offended every decent value I believe in, and I simply could not stand by and look on helplessly as they proceeded to wreck this beautiful country. I truly despise bullies of every stripe, and when I see them I go for them, and try to show them no mercy. It was a hard struggle, but I always knew we would win....

Simon said...

hi UU4077...yes I saw that and I have to thank Perrin because his comments couldn't have come at a better time. It seems that Stephen Harper wasn't able to corrupt everyone who worked for him, and I'm hoping that Perrin's contribution to the Duffy trial will also come back to haunt Harper....

Simon said...

hi Noah...well since I;m writing this the day after the election I can now declare that our long nightmare is over. And I feel that I have been reborn, and so has our country. Had Harper won another mandate I was afraid he would finish off this country, but it seems the country finished him off...

Simon said...

hi anon..thank you and you're welcome. It was a hard slog at times, but I don't regret a moment. I could not have lived with myself if I hadn't decided to take those bullies on, and if I hadn't I would have disappointed my parents who taught me to stand up to those kind of thugs. So there was never any question that I had to do what I did...

Simon said...

hi Pamela....thank you, I was horrified by what harper and his thugs were doing to this country, and I simply thought that I would give them a taste of their own medicine, and attack them like they have attacked so many decent Canadians. If I had done nothing, I'm not sure I would have survived the absolute horror of the last ten years. So while I might have been helping Canada I was also helping myself...

Simon said...

hi rumleyfips...thanks and thank you for your support. I will keep on blogging, but maybe not on a daily basis. That will not only be restful, it will almost certainly improve the quality of this blog...;)

Simon said...

hi anon...the evil predator has now left the building and we are free at last. What a nightmare it was, and how wonderful that it is finally over....

Simon said...

hi hinofan...thank you and yes change finally came to Canada. I never doubted it would,.For although the horrible politics of division did dent my optimism a bit, I knew that in the end the desire for change would finish him off....

Simon said...

hi Mogs...yes I saw that there were some very strange things going on, but the Great Canadian Resistance was on the case, and I honestly believe that we were able to intimidate them enough, that they did not try to pull the same stunt they did last time. And because so many people voted, and voted smartly, nothing they could have tried would have saved them...

Simon said...

hi anon...thanks a lot for those kind words. I had no idea I had so many faithful readers out there and I'm incredibly moved and I should add humbled. Which is a good thing because with all the sweet things people having been saying about me, if I wasn't humble, my head would be so swollen I would have to hold it up with both hands. ;) As I told the others, I simply can't stand bullies, I started defending kids in school, and taking on the Cons was just more of the same. But yes, we better get the authorities on the Con's case because those shredders have been working around the clock, and we need to save the evidence so we can truly make them pay for their crimes...

Simon said...

hi Marie....thanks. I did set myself two objectives. One, attack the Cons as hard as I could and never let them get away with anything. And two, do what I could to try to cheer up progressives during this dark time. If I hadn't at least tried to be funny, I don't think I would have survived....

lagatta à montréal said...

Anonymous, I don't find it surprising that a party that had been in power for such a long time and had its fingers in so many pies would retain some of its core vote. It doesn't mean that it was anything but a resounding defeat for Harper's crew.

Yes, we must remain vigilant against the Cons' resurgence - the networks are still there - but we must also work hard on rebuilding the left to struggle for labour and social rights and to defend the planet against capitalist ecocide.

Simon said...

hi anon...yes it did turn out to be a Liberal majority, and unfortunately the NDP had to pay a heavy price. But although they were hurt they were not wiped out. And I'm afraid there was no choice, if we wanted to defeat Harper. Had the Liberals and the NDP remained equally popular the Cons could have benefited from the splitting of the vote. I'm also not as pessimistic as you are about a Liberal government. I think that Justin is his own man, he has taken several courageous positions , and I think you will be surprised at where his government might lead us. He has been reaching out to conservatives, and he just might be the healer we need at this time to bring this country together....

Simon said...

hi Myworld...I'm not sure that hypocrite is the right word. I used to watch him in action in the National Assembly, holding the PQ to account in the same way he went after Harper in the House of Commons. He is certainly not left enough for me, but de does have a certain integrity that I admire, and like all of us his views have evolved over time....

Simon said...

hi anon...yes as I explained above that was in the cards. Strategic voting does favour the party that is ahead in the polls. But it had to be done to ensure that the Cons were defeated, And had the NDP been ahead in the polls they would have benefited instead of the Liberals.I like to believe that it also shows what might happen if the left ever united, but trying to convince people in this country of what seems to me to be obvious has always been a challenge....

Simon said...

hi Scott...I think we all do. We finally got our act together, and put up the kins of resistance I wish we had been able to mount before. I was incredibly impressed by the number of NDP and Liberal members who said they were willing to vote for the other party if that's what it took to stop Harper. A lot of NDP members clearly did that, and although it cost them some great members, they deserve to be congratulated for putting their country before their party....

Simon said...

hi Way Way Up....I lknow how you feel I feel like a ten-ton weight has been lifted off my back. Now hopefully we can get back to acting like Canadians, try to be nicer to each other, and unite this country instead of dividing it. I am very very happy. And if somebody could lead the Conservatives back to its more decent past, I would be even happier...

Simon said...

hi anon...thank you and well done to you and all the others. For this was a collective project, and we should all be feeling proud of what we managed to accomplish...

hi OA...thanks and thank you for your support and encouragement. And yes, long live Canada glorious and free,,,

Simon said...

hi hinofan...yes he is finally going, and isn't that great news? We certainly all contributed to his demise, but as I predicted his own evil did him in, and the forces of change blew him down like a rotten tree. I am too exhausted to party, but I am really enjoying our victory....

Simon said...

hi Mogs...yes isn't it a great feeling, I couldn't be happier. And I hope that the new Liberal government takes steps to investigate what the Cons have been up to, for I'm sure if they do some of those Cons will go to prison,....

Simon said...

hi anon....yes wasn't it a great night. When I saw the way Atlantic Canada shutout the Cons I knew they were finished, and settled back to enjoy the show. And it couldn't have been more enjoyable....

Simon said...

hi John....thanks, it washy pleasure to have contributed my small part to help bring down the Cons. They really were evil vermin, and I look forward to a more Canadian government. I hope we learned from thithat nightmare and will never repeat it again....

Simon said...

hi anon....it's true that many progressives were losing faith that we would ever be able to rid ourselves of the Cons. But when I saw how the desire for change was growing, I knew that sooner or later the Cons would be bounced. And yes, we can all rest a bit easier now....

Simon said...

hi Torontonian....thank you. I just did what I could to help rid us of that monstrous tyrant. But it was a real collective effort. Many many people worked really hard to get out the vote, and spread the message of change, do I'm very proud of us all. And I am hopeful that Justin Trudeau can get us back on the right and Canadian road....

Simon said...

hi Abel...Thank you for your generous words, and yes I hope we do learn from this nightmare experience. We have been too complacent in the past, and it cost us dearly. But when we finally had enough, and we did take a stand, it's amazing how easily the Con castle crumbled...

It's Nov 12, i just discovered your blog😀 Looking over older posts, and indeed it is Christmas! Please keep up, because I do think it's important to figure out what Gangus Khan (sp?) really did to our country.
