I don't know why there are so many toxic Trudeau haters out there.
So many angry old men who seem to hate our prime minister more than they love life.
But the grumpy old Con who went after Justin Trudeau as he was filling sand bags near Ottawa yesterday, not only showed no respect for the office of prime minister.
He set off another toxic chain reaction of hatred, of the kind that is poisoning this country.
In my last post I looked at how the Cons had been hit by a series of bozo eruptions, just a couple of weeks before they hold their big convention in Halifax.
And how a lot of people were wondering whether Andrew Scheer had lost control of his party. Or had corrupted it beyond recognition.
So these days it's little more than the Party of Hate, spewing toxic bigotry in every direction.
And now to make matters even more desperate for the floundering Scheer, there has been another bozo eruption.
And it's a big one.
Ever since he became Con leader after a
tainted leadership race, I have been warning that the creepy Andrew Scheer could corrupt this country beyond recognition.
And to a large extent he has done that, wounding our system of government with his Republican style attack ads.
Murdering decency, blowing his racist dogwhistle, and lying like a thief over and over again.
While our shabby Con media looked the other way.
But now at last that might be changing.
It's easy to forget the past, in the age of Trump, when the truth is so easily buried under a daily avalanche of excrement and insanity.
But two years ago, at this same dark time of the year, a desperate Stephen Harper was about to launch his Great War on Terror.
It had just been a few months since a gunman had stormed Parliament Hill, Harper thought he could use the fear card to scare Canadians into giving him another Glorious Majority.
And he wasn't about to let facts get in the way, or take no for an answer.
So when Justin Trudeau suggested we should examine the root causes of terrorism, Harper ridiculed him and accused Trudeau of "committing sociology."
While his yapping minion Pierre Poilievre continued to proudly proclaim that the root cause of terrorism is TERRORISTS!!!!
For weeks Pierre Poilievre has been enjoying his moment in the spotlight again, attacking the Liberals as only the man known as Pee Wee or Dickhead can.
While our shabby Con media licked and sucked him like a lollipop.
And he must have felt like he was back in the good old days...
But then on Friday the conflict of interest commissioner finally clarified matters.
Conflict of interest commissioner Mary Dawson says Finance Minister Bill Morneau is the only Liberal cabinet minister who currently holds indirect assets without a blind trust in place.
And let the air out of his balloon.
As we all know Andrew Scheer has been turning parliament into a freak show by going after the decent Bill Morneau day in day out.
Accusing him of using tax shelters, and being guilty of being rich.
And all but demanding that he sell Morneau Shepell, the business his family founded.
But sadly for Scheer it seems that he has been guilty of first degree hypocrisy.
As you know, Andrew Scheer shocked a lot of people the other day, by abruptly ending a newser and running away from reporters.
After one of them asked him a question about his campaign manager, Hamish Marshall, and his ties to Ezra Levant's hate mongering Rebel.
But while most people assumed that Scheer was just trying to cover up his long and sweaty affair with the grotesque bigot Levant.
It turns out there was a much bigger reason, and it couldn't be more horrifying.
The news hit me like a blast from the past. A very dark past. A past I sometimes wish I could forget.
But there was Dean Del Mastro, who once somehow managed to be Stephen Harper's favourite Con enforcer AND his point man on ethics, on his way to jail. Again.
To complete his sentence for electoral fraud.
And I have to admit I was shaken.
For who can forget the last time he clinked and clanked his way to the Big House?
It took him days before he summoned up the courage to say anything about the way Ezra Levant's hate mongering Rebel had disgraced itself, and Canada, with its appalling coverage of that white supremacist rally in Charlottesville.
You know, the one where the deplorable bigot Faith Goldy somehow managed to turn an ugly Nazi hootenanny into a bouncy Beach Party.
Where the Nazis were the good guys, and those who opposed them were The Enemy.
Until the car arrived.
I almost felt sorry for Rona Ambrose yesterday, as she tried to say something intelligent about the Liberal's new budget.
Only to fail miserably.
And end up looking, once again, like the village idiot.
Claiming that Liberal spending was out of control, and that it was a "nightmare scenario."
For weeks Rona Ambrose has been attacking Justin Trudeau for taking a helicopter ride to the Aga Khan's private island, instead of swimming there.
But not any longer.
Yesterday in Question Period she was a mute as a carp.
And with good reason.
You might think that Rona Ambrose's main concern would be the way her allegedly new/nouveau party is turning into a collection of bigots and right-wing religious extremists.
What with Kellie Leitch trying to scapegoat refugees and immigrants for their "anti-Canadian values."
While Brad Trost stands up for those anti-Canadian values by taking aim at women and gay Canadians.
And the religious fanatic Andrew Scheer threatens to take the Harper Party even further to the right.
But no, the ghastly Ambrose has only one thing on her mind.
I'm sure Kellie Leitch was desperately delighted when her campaign manager, the Prince of Darkness Nick Kouvalis, suggested a way to boost her profile.
And make her the Cinderella of the Con leadership campaign.
By slipping on the slipper of bigotry again, and proposing to screen immigrants for "anti-Canadian values."
But although it has raised Leitch's profile, it hasn't quite made her the Cinderella she was hoping to become.
It's been almost ten months since he was crushed and humiliated by Justin Trudeau.
And rushed out into the night, shaking hands with his devastated followers, without even looking at them.
But if Canadians thought that was the end of Stephen Harper they were wrong.
Because he's still with us.
It's the Con's worst nightmare. The spectre of electoral reform coming after them, and threatening to drive them from power forever.
And since they know only a referendum can save them, they spend an incredible amount of time calling for or screaming for one.
Or repeating the same talking point over and over again like a broken record

If you've tuned in to Question Period since the last election, federal Conservatives seem to have one response and one response only whenever anyone brings up the question of reforming Canada's electoral system: referendum!
And of course the idea of a referendum did have to come from Pierre Poilievre.
As you may remember, when I last dropped in on the ghastly Con Jason Kenney he was busy consulting his shiny crystal ball.
And trying to decide whether to run for the leadership of the Harper Party, or leave Ottawa and try to unite the right in Alberta.
Well, it turns out the ball was wrong.
As you know, Rona Ambrose is finally trying to put some distance between herself and Stephen Harper.
Desperately trying to dispel the notion that she's no longer his faithful puppet, as she was for so many years.
And if you remember, at the recent Press Gallery dinner, she even went so far as to declare that "the bad man's gone."
But sadly for her and her Cons, the monster may have left the building, but his legacy lives on.
I don't know how Justin Trudeau does it. Less than two days ago he was in Japan attending the G7 summit.
But there he was in Winnipeg yesterday, putting his leadership on the line.
Addressing the faithful at the Liberal convention.
And making Canadian political history.
They were the ads no Canadians could avoid, no matter how hard they tried. For they were everywhere.
Stephen Harper's porky propaganda ads, paid for with gazillions of OUR money.
And although the Liberal government is moving to ban that kind of blatantly partisan advertising.
The Liberal government has introduced new rules to prevent the use of public funds for partisan advertising.
Brison explicitly tied the measures to criticisms of the previous Conservative government’s use of public funds for advertising, such as the ubiquitous Economic Action Plan campaigns.
Now it seems we have another problem.
After more than six months of self imposed silence, Canadians are about to hear from Stephen Harper again.
When in three days time he delivers a speech to the Con Convention.
But if he is expecting to be greeted with cries of "Steve we miss you." Or "save us Great Leader."
He may be rudely disappointed.
