As you know for almost a year Rona Ambrose and her Cons have been demanding that any plans for electoral reform must be approved by a referendum.
Screeching away like a broken record.
And for a very simple reason. They know that a referendum would almost certainly end up by reinforcing the status quo, and burying the idea of electoral reform for a generation.
So it's hard to understand why the NDP is now backing their position.
Yesterday I celebrated the one-year anniversary of the day Justin Trudeau brought down the Con regime, after a decade of darkness.
Only to be reminded how fragile was that victory.
And how desperately the Con media are to return us to the nightmare we escaped.
And to try to destroy Justin.
You might think that Rona Ambrose's main concern would be the way her allegedly new/nouveau party is turning into a collection of bigots and right-wing religious extremists.
What with Kellie Leitch trying to scapegoat refugees and immigrants for their "anti-Canadian values."
While Brad Trost stands up for those anti-Canadian values by taking aim at women and gay Canadians.
And the religious fanatic Andrew Scheer threatens to take the Harper Party even further to the right.
But no, the ghastly Ambrose has only one thing on her mind.
It's the Con's worst nightmare. The spectre of electoral reform coming after them, and threatening to drive them from power forever.
And since they know only a referendum can save them, they spend an incredible amount of time calling for or screaming for one.
Or repeating the same talking point over and over again like a broken record
Press Progress
If you've tuned in to Question Period since the last election, federal Conservatives seem to have one response and one response only whenever anyone brings up the question of reforming Canada's electoral system: referendum!
And of course the idea of a referendum did have to come from Pierre Poilievre.
As you know I have been attacking Rona Ambrose and her Cons for trying to sabotage plans to introduce electoral reform.
By demanding a referendum which they know would almost certainly ensure that those plans would be dead on arrival.
With the help of their friends in the Con media...
The other day I warned that although the Con's hysterical demands for a referendum on electoral reform, were a product of desperation.
And clearly over the top.
The Con media is on their side beating the same hollow drum.
And sure enough here's the latest example.
You had to see the look on Rona Ambrose's face today. For she wasn't smiling or giggling like she was after she called Justin Trudeau a woman.
She was screaming like a banshee.
The Liberals and the NDP have finally agreed on something.
The Cons are on the road to ruin.
As you must have realized by now, there is nothing but nothing that scares the Cons more than electoral reform.
Because they know it would be the death of their Zombie Party.
And now that the Liberals have kicked off the process, they're absolutely desperate.
So desperate in fact they've even recruited Andrew Coyne.
It's been almost seven months since Stephen Harper and his foul Con regime came crashing down.
And I'm still celebrating that happy day.
But I've also been patiently waiting for another great day.
The day we start the process that will make sure that the Harper Party never returns to power.
And this monstrous nightmare never happens again.
As you may or may not know, Rona Ambrose is called Cleopatra by some of her friends and her enemies in Ottawa.
And carries only two burning thoughts around in her head, for that's all she can memorize.
How to destroy Justin Trudeau, and how to wreck electoral reform by demanding a referendum.
So sadly for her this week had to be one of her worst since Mark Antony Stephen Harper left her.
When I first read Nathan Cullen's proposal to kickstart the electoral reform process, I must admit that I thought the NDP had lost its grip on reality.
For it did seem a bit unreasonable to ask the Liberals to surrender their majority on a committee that will study the matter.
While attacking them in the Commons as if the NDP was still the official opposition.
But now I've changed my mind.
You might think that Joe Oliver would have stayed missing after the Cons lost the election, and he lost his seat.
Or sought refuge in his private Bay Street Boy's Club...
So he wouldn't have to answer questions about what him and Stephen Harper's oily policies have done to our economy.
But no, now he's everywhere, accusing the Liberals of blowing the surplus that never was.
And going after Justin Trudeau's plan to bring in electoral reform.
As we all know, Rona Ambrose can on occasion, and even without realizing it, be quite funny.
Like the time she found herself agreeing with Australia's Stoner Sloth that marijuana makes you stupid.
Because she should know eh?
About the stupid.
And as Michael Harris writes, her war on electoral reform is a real comedy.
As you know, the Con zombies and their friends in the media have been attacking Justin Trudeau and his plan to change the electoral system as if there was no tomorrow.
After having realized there will be no tomorrow for them, once the first past the post system is scrapped.
Claiming they are not against electoral reform in principle...
While screaming for a referendum to try to stop it from ever happening.
So I was almost relieved to see Margaret Wente, our Marie Antoinette, sashay out to meet the mob, and let them know how the Cons really feel...
I see that Rona Ambrose really is trying to make it look like her Cons are a kinder gentler version of the Harper Party.
For that's the first time the word "peace" has appeared on any Con propaganda.
But sadly that new image couldn't be more absurd.
Not when the wretched Rona is a raving chicken hawk.
Yesterday I told you how Rona Ambrose, her shellshocked Harper party, and their friends in the Con media, were in a disturbing state of zombie agitation.
After it finally dawned on them that electoral reform will either change their brutish party beyond recognition. Or destroy it.
And how they are all calling it an assault on democracy, and screaming for a referendum, or a popular uprising.
Well now they've gone full turkey.
Uh oh. Yesterday I told you how Rona Ambrose, in the shadowy and shrunken Con War Room now known as The Crypt, had sent out a desperate message to her equally desperate followers.
After she finally realized what electoral reform is going to do to the surviving zombies in the Harper Party.
Bury them, again. And this time forever.
And did hysterically demand a referendum, or some sort of uprising, to try to head off the Conapocalypse.
There's nothing that scares the Cons as much as electoral reform, and Justin Trudeau's plan to scrap the so called first past the post system.
They know that it would cripple their chances of ever ruling Canada again, and that the only thing that might stop that from happening is a referendum.
So I'm not surprised by this desperate tweet from Rona Ambrose.
After Trudeau gave the referendum idea a big thumbs down.
It was only Rona Ambrose's third Question Period as Leader of the Opposition.
And there she was yesterday, trying to look like she's really in control of her shattered party, that she knows what she's doing.
And that she's the steady hand on the wheel of the Con shipwreck.
Only to suddenly seem to lose it, and let out a primal scream.
It was the most magical throne speech I've ever seen. The new leader stepping forward. the old one rotting in the shadows.
The promise to take our Canada back.
Justin Trudeau is signalling that his government will make a clean break from the policies and practises of its Conservative predecessors with a relatively short Speech from the Throne that promises a cleaner environment, an enhanced social safety net, and a new era of openness and transparency.
And to make it even more wonderful, the thought of the Cons screaming at the sound of the promise that will destroy them.
