The Con leadership race was always going to be a sleazy affair. With two old Harperite hacks, and two social conservatives vying to be leader what else could it be?
Especially since the two Harperites have been shamefully pandering to the two religious fanatics who will almost certainly determine the winner.
But even by the low standards of the Ugly American party, this couldn't be more disturbing.
In my last post I looked at how the Con media was still trying to find any reason to attack Justin Trudeau.
Even when he said nothing, and even though they risk undermining the war against Covid-19, with their idiot questions about Donald Trump.
But luckily most Canadians understand that, and they are making their feelings clear.
It was Andrew Scheer's birthday the other day, but as you can imagine the celebrations were somewhat muted.
None of his Cons felt much like celebrating, not when so many of his Cons are afraid that thanks to Scheer they are going to lose their seats in the next election.
And of course, this was a lousy birthday present.
For a few days you couldn't read a newspaper, or watch a TV news program without seeing this picture of Justin Trudeau dressed up as Aladdin.
As one member of the Con media after the other tried to smear Trudeau as a racist. And some like the Con hack David Akin even suggested he should resign.
But now the first serious polls are in and we are starting to get an idea of what ordinary Canadians thought of this biased onslaught.
And the Cons, and their stooge media must be really disappointed.
It's been an amazing summer so far in the place where I live. And now that I'm on holiday I've been trying to enjoy every minute.
The blue sky days, the warm breezes, the childhood memories of the days I learned to sail in a far off land.
The lazy afternoons at the island beach where I can lie in the sun, and have the luxury of time to really think about where this country is going.
For more than two years Andrew Scheer has been screeching and wailing about how the Canadian economy is an absolute disaster.
And of course accusing Justin Trudeau of "failing" about ten times a day.
But he won't be able to do that any longer without looking even more like a Con clown or a sad little maniac.
I see Andrew Scheer has been playing cowboy, and flipping pancakes at the Calgary Stampede.
And although I'm sure Scheer was happy to be half a continent away from Doug Ford and the stench of Con corruption, he must also be hurting inside, and increasingly desperate.
Just a few weeks ago it seemed he was heading for a crushing Con majority, and on the verge of being able to impose his deranged Scheeria law on Canada.
Now not so much.
If any of you have been wondering why I haven't been blogging as often as I usually do, well wonder no longer.
For as you can see it is the sailing season, and after a long winter of fake scandals, Doug Ford, and bleak polls suggesting that Andrew Scheer could win the next election, I'm determined to enjoy every minute second of it.
However, even as I skim over the waves and let the cold clean wind scour away the horror of that nightmare winter, I can't forget that we are now only about four months away from an election.
And that if the Cons win that election we could soon be living in a nightmare world.
In normal times, in a different Canada, a story about Andrew Scheer's monster bigot problem would be enough to end his political career.
For his bigotry couldn't be more disgusting, or more damaging.
Especially at a time when he has finally decided to tell us who is the real Scheer.
Which should be a laugh, or a scream.
But here's the really scary part.
I knew that some dark invisible force had recently given Andrew Scheer a big boost in the polls, and I thought I knew what it was.
A primeval panic and new eruption of toxic Trudeau hate, caused by Scheer's false claim that Trudeau was about to erase our borders, by signing the U.N. Global Compact on Migration.
And was encouraging the migrant hordes to invade our country.
Ever since he became leader of the Cons, Andrew Scheer has called Justin Trudeau all kinds of ugly names.
Criminal gang member supporter, coward, terrorist sympathizer, you name it.
But now, believe it or not, Scheer aka Schmear, has outdone himself.
And come up with an even uglier name to call Trudeau.
Andrew Scheer was absent from Question Period yesterday, and nobody seemed to know where he was.
But I wouldn't be surprised if he was huddled with his ex-Rebel campaign manager Hamish Marshall trying to figure out what's going wrong.
Because so much is going wrong.
A series of devastating polls, have suggested the Cons are heading for a crushing defeat in the next election.
And a new Abacus poll can only make them feel worse.
I haven't written much about pipelines because quite frankly I got pipelined out during the Harper years.
And also because I have always considered the fuss over the Trans Mountain pipeline to be just a distraction from the real war on climate change.
But now that a court has halted that project.
I just want to say that I couldn't be more delighted for the following reasons.
When Maxime Bernier decided to break away from Andrew Scheer and his "intellectually and morally corrupt" Cons.
And in the process made Scheer look like a cowardly leader. Or no leader at all.
The big question was how much damage could Bernier do to his former party?
Now a first poll is in, and Scheer must be quivering in his boots.
I couldn't understand it. It seemed to make no sense to me. Why in the sweltering summer of the hate crime, were Andrew Scheer and his Cons fanning the flames of racism?
Why were they playing politics with the border issue, at a time when police all over the country were busy busting hate mongers.
Why was this happening In a country called Canada?
And then I saw a new Abacus poll, and it all became horribly clear.
I wasn't sure I had enough material to write even a short post about day three of Andrew Scheer's Great Con Clown Tour of London.
And his desperate attempt to land a big league photo-op, with someone famous, or just important.
Only to fail, again and again.
But Scheer does have something to celebrate these days. For while the Con media is failing to ask him what exactly he's doing in London.
It seems that its hysterical coverage of Justin Trudeau's visit to India has worked.
And Trudeau has been damaged.
I knew the Cons were worried.
I didn't believe them when they said that weird ad, half Forrest Gump and half serial killer, was to introduce Andrew Scheer to Canadians.
When he has been around for thirteen years, and the Con media has given him all the page time or air time he wanted recently, to attack the Trudeau government.
As only Schmeagol can.
Yesterday I wrote a post about the CBC's frenzied attempts to try to bring down the Trudeau government, and make the sinister religious fanatic Andrew Scheer Prime Minister.
And how in pursuit of that goal it seems to have sacrificed its principles and its sanity.
And I was pleasantly surprised to see how many people agreed with me and shared my anger.
But sadly it seems the CBC doesn't seem to be getting the message.
In my last post I wrote about how Andrew Scheer had set out on his crusade, to try to bring down the Great Satan Justin Trudeau.
Aided and abetted by a small army of religious fanatics, and the usual shabby posse of racists, misogynists, dirty old men, and anti-gay bigots.
And so shocking and depressing was the spectacle, I forgot to mention the good news.
I don't think Scheer and his Cons are going to make it to their New/Nouveau Jerusalem.
As you know, I believe that the decision by Andrew Scheer's Cons to take their campaign against the Khadr settlement to the U.S. on the eve of the NAFTA talks, can only be described as treason.
So I'm glad to see that even some in the Con media agree.
Conservatives are entitled to object to the Liberal government’s $10.5 million payment to Omar Khadr, even to make as much political hay of it as they can. But taking their quarrel to the United States is a little too close to treason in these sensitive times.
But don't expect Scheer to agree.
