Andrew Scheer and the Hidden Hand of Stephen Harper

I knew Andrew Scheer would be a poor loser. He was so sure he was going to win, and he lives in his own dark reality.

So I knew he could never accept the way he was humiliated by Justin Trudeau.

Still I was hoping that Scheer might eventually decide to do the honourable thing and resign.

But sadly it seems the Ugly American isn't going anywhere.

For he just can't help himself. He's still obsessed with Justin Trudeau.

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer said today he has no plans to resign, and vowed instead to stay at the helm of his party and take another swing at defeating Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the next election.

And he's actually claiming he won the election.

"We point to the fact that we won the popular vote, a million more votes for our party last night than than ever before, and that we have the strongest opposition in Canadian history," Scheer said. "More people voted for me and the Conservative platform than any other party."

When in fact the only reason he got more votes was because of the lopsided vote in the redneck provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.

The Conservative Party won more votes in Alberta alone than it received in Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador combined.

The idea of a popular vote is an American concept not a Canadian one.

And the real reason the Ugly American is digging in his heels, is because he doesn't want to give up his massive mansion and all the servants and other perks he gets for being opposition leader.

And because his puppet master Stephen Harper doesn't want to cut his strings.

Stephen Harper is quietly counselling Conservatives to remain calm after Andrew Scheer’s election loss on Monday.

The former prime minister is urging senior Conservative operatives not to rush to judgment on Scheer and his inner circle while the party reviews what went wrong with the campaign, according to two sources familiar with Harper’s thinking.

The strings he has been pulling for years, with the only ones who knew that secret being the far-right extremists and religious fanatics in Scheer's inner circle.

While there’s general goodwill towards Scheer, Conservative operatives direct a lot of anger toward the leader’s tight-knit inner circle, which is viewed as far too insular, according to insiders who were granted anonymity to discuss internal party matters.

“It was like Richard Nixon or something … These guys didn’t trust anyone,” said one well-connected Tory of the Scheer team’s approach after he won the party’s leadership in 2017.

Which tells us two things.

One, as long as Scheer is Con leader Stephen Harper will remain the real leader of Canada's RepubliCons.

And two, Justin Trudeau deserves the thanks of all decent Canadians for having given Harper the boot not once but twice.

When Canadians finally realize the extent of the conspiracy, and the fate he saved us from.

I think Justin Trudeau is going to be prime minister for a long long time....

If the Conservatives ever hope to govern again, they need to ditch harper and the so cons that have ruined their party, expand the base and stop relying solely on destroying Trudeau. As this is as likely to happen as pigs flying, you're right Simon, Justin could hang around until he at least cashes his first old age security cheque. Hopefully that is, if he can avoid another bungling like the SNC non scandal which should have been nipped in the bud in like 7 days but instead dragged on for months and cost him a majority.

Part of me wants him to stay on so we can kick his ass again but that would mean another how many years of his phony everyman persona and the sickening lies and smears that go with Scheer's modus operandi? This election and 2015's has proven that the Harper brand is toxic in the east and the only way they'll win is by going back to the old ways of doing things. That means dumping their US style pathetic and constant attacks on JT and actually offering Canadians sound policy on governance and a coherent plan to fight climate change.
Scheer may want to stay on but I highly doubt it will happen. The knives are out and there is thing none he nor Harper can do about it. That is why I took the liberty to call Scheer's office and asked when they would like the moving vans to converge on Stornoway.

It's rather amusing seeing you Liberal trolls trying to convince everyone that Trudeau received a resounding mandate from the people after spending ten years hollering that most of the country voted against Harper when he was winning with larger vote percentages.

So rumor has it Yankee Doody Andy might be listening to Andrew MacDingleballs' advice and possibly pursuing an SNC inquiry to scream TRUGHAZI!!! and bring down the government or force Trudeau to resign. I have no idea how committees are appointed in a minority parliament, but if there's a way Trudeau can have a bunch of Bloc MPs on them, it could work in his favor. Apparently Chantal said on election night they would vote against one because they see it as a Quebec-bashing witch hunt, and I don't blame them. But this is why a vulnerable Trudeau was smart not to forge any coalitions. He can't trust the NDP 100% (or the irrelevant Greens), and that fucking snake Judas won her goddamn seat. Singh and May haven't let go of this bone, even though most Canadians are sick of it, want to move on to things affecting their everyday lives and don't want to waste taxpayer dollars on a stupid Hillary hearing. At least the NDP can't afford another election right now and so doesn't have that kind of leverage, but weak Andy and his puppet master are the real problem. They need to get a life and get some policies or GTFO. Perhaps the Liberals should open an inquiry into the IDU and disinfect Parliament of the recurring Stephen Herpes virus once and for all.

Trudeau was correct about Harper throughout the campaign.

Noises again are being made about changing the voting system. Don't these people know that under Proportional Representation, Elizabeth May would never had been elected and we would have no Green Party. JWR, as an independent with only a fraction of a percent wouldn't make the cut either.

There are lots of opinions about voting systems. I don't like Proportional Rep because MP's who were never selected by riding association, green lit by party committee or faced a single voter could be appointed. We already have such a system and we call it The Senate. Strange that some who speak harshly about the Senate plump for Prop Rep. Mixed member has all the problems of PR with the added benefit of being supremely confusing. I can't see either of these systems helping. That left Ranked Ballot.

We know that Liberals are the second choice of NDP,Green and Bloc voters. The progressive/centrist 65% vote tallied Monday reinforces this polling. The Cons and PPC have lower second choice support.

I got a chance to look at the numbers today. I looked up the results in 15 ridings chosen fairly randomly from the list at the Huffington post. There was some sorting to ensure 11 different jurisdictions, 5 political parties and 5 leaders were included.

5 ridings were won by more than 50% and no statistical manipulation would be needed. 3 of the leaders polled more than 50% but May and Singh did not. In both cases, second choice would have put them over the top.

In most cases a ranked ballot would have made no difference. The only seat that would have flipped was West Nova. In the other 14, the candidate who got the most votes would have won with either FPTP or Ranked Ballot.

After doing the work, I am less anxious to institute Ranked Ballot. It may be much ado about nothing. Democratically speaking, any time the idea of changing the system has come to a vote, Canadian electors have rejected it. Maybe they know something I don't

Well, his dad barely scraped through with a minority in '72 and came back for two more majorities. Trudeau fils' minority reelect is a lot stronger than his old man's. Granted, that was a different time when cable news and the Internet didn't exist and the Conservatives were actually respectable. Scheer is no Joe Clark and he damn sure ain't Robert Stanfield. There's a part of me though that wonders if Trudeau the younger isn't getting sick of it all, because he knows how this job did such a tune on his family while growing up. But I don't think another SNC is going to happen, because he's learned his lesson about doing proper vetting and appointing on merit rather than demographic checkboxes (although he is going for another 50/50 cabinet again which does kind of piss me off). SNC dragged on for months because Kinsella kept feeding drips to the sycophant media, but he's running scared and apparently had a narcissistic meltdown like Jordan Peterson, which couldn't happen to a better asshole. My advice to Canadians is to pressure your MPs to call for an inquiry and/or RCMP investigation into Kinsellagate and all the right-wing PACs connected to the Proud and Rebel cabals. And also to cancel the bailout for Postmedia. The fourth estate is a fifth column.

Now, as to the actual government and what's next in Trudeau's tenure. Bizarrely, having the Bloc to work with might actually benefit him and buy him an out from lingering SNC bullshit. Blanchet said recently that a mandate lasts four years, so four years it could very well be. By 2022 or 2023 we could end up seeing another split on the right if the Charles Adler brigade clashes with the Wexit assholes and then, if he wants to, Justin could very well be PM until Hadrien Jr. is in college. Or hand the torch to Freeland and watch them crumble before a woman, while he either goes back to quiet private life or moves upward to be ambassador to the UN. As the Chinese say, we do live in interesting times.

The Cons would have won this time around if PR was implemented. When Andrew Coyne is the biggest cheerleader for anything you know it's a bad idea. PR has made a dog's breakfast of Italy and Israel and allowed the neo-Nazi AfD to throw a spanner in the works in Germany. Ranked Ballot hasn't stopped the Murdoch party in Australia (a coalition at that!) and neither has mandatory voting. If electoral reform absolutely must happen to shut the obsessives up then I suppose Ranked Ballot is the least worst option. But the message needs to get across that changing the way people vote doesn't change the people or what they vote for. The fault is not in our stars or in our ballots but in ourselves.

Hi Jackie, If Scheerly soon to be departed Andy's first order of business is to lash out and try to breathe life into this long ago dead horse, he will further enforce the exact reason he never achieved the job of Prime Minister, or insurance broker. He couldn't get across the finish line. He lacked the substance that comes from within, which drives us to achieve and succeed. All bark and no bite. An empty suit. A failure who never was and will never be ready.

I voted NDP, but the Tories aren't wrong, it's messed up that the party that got the most votes did not get the most seats, it doesn't matter that a lot of those votes were out west, their votes should count just as much as yours does Simon.

And its messed up that the NDP got almost twice the votes of the Bloc but got fewer seats. The Greens got almost as much votes as the Bloc, but only got 3 seats.

The system also hightlights and makes worse the biggest national unity crisis
since the Quebec referendum, except it's both out west and in Quebec. This country is coming apart at the seems and FPTP makes it even worse because just about everybody but hardcore Liberals feels like they just got screwed in the 2019 election results.

Gyor said...

Bawhahaha, home run, that really is Trudeau's starting point which makes me wonder if Trudeau plans on governing with a Coalition with the Tories?

Why do so many of the guys who want to lead the CRAP Party seem so fucking weird? Am I the only who one who feels that way? I hope that this one sticks around long enough to let the public get a better second look at that other weirdo as he stirs up the even more shit in Albertaland.

And quit focusing on Justin's pipeline the way Cons fixate on his socks appeal. Your Freudian slip is showing. And maybe your Russian translation engine too.

Jackie Blue said...

Then the NDP shouldn't have sabotaged the committee and should have supported the Liberals instead of blowing it up with the Cons. If this nuclear hot potato comes up again, will your guy honor his promise not to support the Cons, by supporting the only system that would castigate them to oblivion for a generation or more? Or will he be a partisan hack in the name of "fair voting" that increases his party's vote share but also allows for the Cons and other extremists to gain a potentially greater foothold in parliament along with them? Max might have gotten as many seats as Liz, are you OK with that as long as "every vote counts"? PR didn't stop the Nazis in Germany then or now, so take your pick, tovarisch. Country over party. Either you want to fight the fascists or you want to benefit along with them. You can't have both.

Hi bcwaterboy....You've been following my blogging misadventures for a very long time, so you know how I have always supported the progressive party that can best defeat the Cons. Right now the Trudeau Liberals are the only ones who can do that, msoun I am happy and proud to support them. But that doesn't mean I don't still dream of a united left that could beat the Cons every election, so we could spend all our time fighting the real enemy instead of ourselves..ll

Simon said...

Hi Jackie....you know I should really brag a bit, and say I TOLD you everything would work out well in the end. But I can't because I wasn't THAT sure. 😉 But isn't victory wonderful?
I don't know what the future holds, but what I do know is that waves of young Canadians will continue to pour through the holes in the Con castle so the future definitely doesn't belong to them....

Simon said...

Hi JD....I know what you mean, many have told me that they want Scheer to stay so we can wh up his ass again. But as you point out, Scheer is a sick puppy, and having him stick around can only hurt this country. So good for you for calling Stornoway and asking when they would like the moving vans to arrive. Brilliant. My answer would be the sooner the better...

Simon said...

Hi anon....please try and remember that vote percentages are an American concept not a Canadian one. In this country seats are the true measure of a party's popularity. And the only reason the Cons had larger vote percentages was because Alberta and Saskatchewan had so many Cons voting to spite the Liberals, only to end up complaining that nobody loves us Waaaaah. What will they do next week, cut off the ears and complain that nobody is listening to them?

Simon said...

Hi Jackie....I think that Canadians have had more tha enough of the SNC fake scandal. The Bloc will have nothing to do with it, and the NDP would ruin any chances they have of working with the Liberals on things like pharmacare...

Simon said...

Hi rumleyfips....Thanks for that interesting comment. I'm not a big fan of electoral reform, but if we must have it I suppose I could support a ranked ballot, if only because it's simple and should guarantee one progressive victory after the other. And also because it might have a chance of being approved in a referendum instead of being rejected like proportional representation over and over again. For some snowflakes PR is practically a religion, and I have no time for fanatics like them..l

Simon said...

Hi Gyor...please don't parrot Con talking points. Be glad that the NDP is going to be able to work with the Liberals, and show Canadians what they can do. You should be excited not bitter...

Oh, and P.S. this person sounds a lot like the horseshoe talking points you've been pushing, either he's confused or is a troll:

https://www.reddit.com/r/onguardforthee/comments/dmr2gf/how_to_solve_my_issue_with_proportional/

"Bernie Sanders opened my mind to the possibility that letting the fascists continue to have oxygen isn't such a bad idea... I didn't used to think so, but that's when I was a Liberal party hack"

Uh-huh. And I'm sure comrade has no problem letting Dear Leader Vladimir or Panda Bear Xi have majority government or else.

Hi John....I blame Stephen Harper, who was pretty weird himself. He raised Kenney and Scheer in his own image, and they have surrounded themselves with a collection of religious fanatics right out of a horror movie. Hopefully Scheer, Kenney, and the beast Ford will end up fighting each other, and take the Cons down with them...

Hi Steve....don't worry, Scheer is getting weaker by the day as he begs for his job. It seems his Cons are loyal to him for now. But for how much longer?

Trudeau had already ruled out working with the NDP, Simon. He's committing to doing what he did before - implementing a Tory economic agenda minus the socon nonsense. Tax cuts to increase inequality, pipelines to kill the planet, an ineffective carbon tax supported by oil executives, and continued oil and gas subsidies. But no worries, Trudeau will put more money in our pockets so we can get ahead, er, forward.

Look at the replies. "Beware people who denigrate 'the popular vote'."

The Cons and their lapdog Dippers hacked the system. They forced a minority to shove PropRep down everyone's throat. They don't just want electoral reform. They want PropRep or bust.

There's a reason I call populists the pox populi. They're a disease that's spreading like wildfire. Probably boosted by social media astroturfing -- hence, going viral.

Italy has had the pure proportional for decades now; it is more like the German system. The problem in Israel is cultural more than the voting system per se: a small but growing number of fanatical fundamentalists has dominated not only the Knesset but also the courts to impose their Jewish version of Sharia on a largely secular country (just as the mouth-breathing evangelicals and recently, Catholic rightwingers who think the current Pope is a communist do closer by). And they have whole broods of indoctrinated children, while secular families have fewer children, who attend university.

Not even mentioning the occupation of Palestine...
