Justin Trudeau and the Triumph of Love Over Hate
It seems only right that after enduring a torrent of hatred aimed at him, his wife, his children, and his mother.
Justin Trudeau should move today to protect the rights of a group of Canadians who know only too well what it feels like to be hated.
Canada's transgender community.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has confirmed his government will move forward with new legislation to protect the rights of transgender Canadians.
"I am proud to announce that tomorrow, on the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, we will be tabling a bill in the House of Commons to ensure the full protection of transgender people," Trudeau said on Monday in Montreal, where he was accepting the Laurent McCutcheon Award for his commitment to fighting homophobia and transphobia.
Transgendered Canadians are misunderstood and mistreated by many, including some in the LGBT community. They are bullied, discriminated against, and the victims of savage violence.
And both here and in the United States their long struggle for equality has been reduced by Con bigots to a question of who can or can't use a public washroom.
Both C-389 and C-279 were targeted by opponents as "bathroom bills," with some suggesting that extending human rights protections to transgender people would make it easier for predators to prey on children in public washrooms.
In an attempt to humiliate them, and whip up even more hatred against them.
So today's move to finally grant them equality is great news, and so is Trudeau's decision to become the first prime minister to march in a Gay Pride parade...
And what makes even more special for me is that Justin Trudeau has had to deal with the same kind of vile and irrational hatred gay people experience from the moment he ran for office.
And the depraved political pervert Stephen Harper set out to destroy him.
By questioning among other things his manhood...
So even though he's straight, Justin has also had to endure the sting or the stench of homophobia.
Which helps explain why he relates so well with all its other victims. i.e. every gay person in Canada.
But it's not only the Cons, and their legions of bigots who are responsible for that wave of frenzied hatred. For some progressives are also afflicted by the same disease.
And their hatred of Trudeau also borders on insanity.
I honestly thought the Liberals won the last general election. I could have bet the farm that a Liberal government was sworn into power last November.I honestly thought the Liberals won the last general election. I could have bet the farm that a Liberal government was sworn into power last November.
Then something happened. We still had this young guy, Slick, as prime minister. Those were his lips moving, his voice talking but the words that came out were, sure as hell, Stephen Harper's.
So much for a Liberal renaissance. It's still the Tories running Canada.
For while it's fine to criticize Justin, what can justify that bizarre statement, or that raging barely contained fury?
And from the same blogger who recently called him a "bitch" like the ones who are raped in jail.
When Trudeau is definitely better than Harper.
He is dismantling his legacy...
And he is a much nicer person
I just don't understand it. And I wish everybody would just cool their jets and stop fuelling what is rapidly becoming an insane climate of violence.
And the good news?
The Trudeau haters are just a small angry group, of filthy Cons and bitter old men.
And if Canadians went to the polls today, the Liberals would win a super majority.
A random sampling of 1,517 Canadians over the age 18 by Forum Research found that 52 per cent would vote Liberal if an election were held today, enough to create a Liberal “supermajority” in the House of Commons, stealing almost all of the NDP seats and a few from the Tories.
“The Liberals started with a honeymoon. At this point, not only is the honeymoon still on, but the Liberals are still gaining,” said Forum Research president Lorne Bozinoff.
So it seems that despite the best or vilest efforts of the hate mongers, Canadians still love their new prime minister...
And that message.
Which is also mine.
Here's to Canada's transgender community on their day of victory after a twelve year struggle.
Here's to the triumph of love over hate.
And the prime minister of ALL Canadians...
