Why Would Anyone Want to Honour Stephen Harper?

As if his proposed monument to himself in the heart of Ottawa wasn't bad and ugly enough.

And begging for a bulldozer.

As if this version of the proposed and equally hideous Mother Canada monument wasn't monstrous enough...

Now some of the Oily Prophet's followers are suggesting that they name the Calgary airport after Stephen Harper.

An online petition to rename Calgary International Airport the Stephen J. Harper International Airport was created Sunday night with the goal of presenting 15,000 signatures to the President and CEO of the Calgary Airport Authority.

“Prime Minister Stephen Harper was the longest serving Prime Minister's from Western Canada. Prime Minister Harper represented to the world the best that Canada and more specifically Calgary has to offer,” the petition reads.

A petition war is raging, and Twitter has taken flight.

And of course, I couldn't resist asking this question...

Although I do have a serious question.

Why would anyone suggest honouring Stephen Harper, so soon after he was overwhelmingly rejected by Canadians for being without a doubt the worst Prime Minister this country has ever known?

With a monstrous record that should never be forgotten.

Have they already forgotten what he did to our Canada? Have they forgotten all his victims? Those who lost their jobs, those who were muzzled, those who died of poverty and despair. Those who were bullied to death. All those wounded veterans who committed suicide waiting for help that never arrived.

And while I'm at it, why did so many people in Alberta still vote for him?

When his disgusting behaviour also shamed them in the eyes of the world.

And his slavish service to Big Oil has led that province to the verge of disaster...

What were the people of that province thinking? Why do they love him so much when he is so hated in the rest of Canada? Why do they keep trying to turn the Cons into the Bloc Alberta?

So Harper can follow in the footsteps, or the fumes, of Gilles Duceppe...

Why do they want to isolate themselves from the rest of Canada?

I just can't understand it.

But if they want to make fools of themselves, or shame themselves further in the eyes of the world, by looking like a one-party Banana Republic. Or the groupies of a dictator.

Then by all means go ahead.

In fact let me do it for them:

Simon to Harper Air, you are cleared to land...

But as for the rest of us, let's do what we can to save the honour of our brethren in Alberta, by signing this petition.

Let's deep six this monstrosity...

Let's urge the Liberal government to bulldoze plans for this monument as soon as they can...

And of course, let's never forget that the only reason Stephen Harper should be remembered, is for what he did to Canada.

How he would have killed it, if we hadn't brought him down.

And reward him with the only thing he truly deserves.

The undying contempt of Canadians...

Simon, everybody knows that Ontario and Quebec are directly responsible for the downturn in albertucky's economy. Them thar durty, eastern pinkos have been planning that ever since jeebus rode dinosaurs at the beginning of the world 2,000+ years ago! That's why they need to name some bush league aerodrome after heil harper. Because he tried to save them from the rest of Canada! As far as cutting themselves off from the normal people in that "province", I think we should follow Great Britain's logic and 1) put up a 100' tall wall around the whole damn thing and then 2) send all of our most violent prisoners there to live/die just like how Australia was founded. Look at how well that worked out. All the shitty people....all gone! We could even sentence his "cabinet" to life imprisonment there and save the Canadian taxpayers billions of $$$ because we wouldn't have to pay their idiotically high pensions either. We could put the money into First Nations education and development (actual help this time); health care; infrastructure repair; green energy jobs; renewable energy research; cancer research and the list goes on and on...
For help on that topic I suggest everybody watch "Escape From New York" to get the bigger picture on how to cordon off albertucky for the right wing fucking assholes.
Have a Nice Day, Simon.

Please consider signing my petition to stop the proposed renaming of Calgary's International Airport for Stephen Harper: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/687/027/351/demand-an-end-to-the-proposal-to-rename-calgarys-international-airport-for-stephen-harper/?taf_id=17079631&cid=fb_na

The only thing Harper deserves to have his name on is a subpoena for Duffy's trial or a warrant for his arrest.

Why don't they just go away? On Radio-Canada this morning, the unmistakable reptilian voice (Aussie version) of Tony Abbott, lecturing Europe on the dangers of accepting refugees on the basis of "Love thy neighbour" (Remember that according to Scripture, Mary, Joseph and Jesus were refugees in Egypt)...

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/oct/28/tony-abbott-urges-europe-to-adopt-australian-border-policies

Send the both of them backing somewhere remote, and either very hot or very cold...

As for Calgary, the Albertans among us could certainly come up with many worthy Albertans to commemorate by renaming the airport (unless it already has a name other than "Calgary Airport"). And yes, the person honoured should be deceased.

The only good thing that could come of the airport being named after Harper is if the following headline happened - "Thousands of Muslim Refugees Enter Canada at Calgary's Stephen J Harper Airport".

But there are many more fitting honourary places for Harper to be remembered -

* The closet in the PM's office
* A toilet or urinal at the Calgary airport
* A toxic waste pond in the oil sands
* A sewage tunnel in Calgary

I think it would be appropriate; the Stephen Harper International Terminal or S.H.I.T. for short.

Oh please no rumley not the closet again??? :> So I heard Steve started all this Lautens has it right and rightly so how can an airplane take off with only one right wing? It can't it will be like a dog or cat chasing its tail. Now the next petition coming out of the Harper/Ford nation is to have Ontario renamed Fordland and Alberta renamed Harperland so far they have already collected all the crack addicts signatures in Ontario (on both petitions) and all the drunks in Alberta (again both petitions) who were crying over the Harper dictator not returning to power but celebrating his seat in the back bench of opposition wow neat people eh :> By the by in Ontario they bribed em with plumbers crack and Alberta with tar-sands booze ya know that black s**t :>

I doubt they will rename the airport. remember its in Calgary. Not all of Calgary was in love with Steve and Jason.

15K signatures on a petition. I thought the population of Calgary was over a million.

hi Niu...thank you, it really is ridiculous. And the good news is the NO petition has got twice as many signatures ad the YES one....

Simon said...

hi David....Only a person who was living abroad could fail to understand the horror of harper land, and make such an absurd suggestion...

Simon said...

hi David...that's a good one. Will that be coffee, tea or pee?

Simon said...

hi rumleyfips....They only want to name a closet in the airport after Harper? Oh well I change my mind. Who could deny chicken Harper that?

Simon said...

hi Raven....well it might take off but it would only be able to fly in a circle, which is after all what the Cons seem to have been doing for the last ten years. I should also say that I have no objections if Albertonia calls itself Harperland. That is what it is after all. But Fordland ends at the border of Etobicoke, which also happens to be the place where Great Leader was born. A place twice cursed if ever there was one...

Simon said...

hi Shimon...yes I'm afraid our confreres in Alberta are labouring under the wrong impression. They are the ones who have been living it up, while screwing our manufacturing sector. And as for putting up a firewall around the province, and sentencing all Con artists to live there, that sounds vaguely familiar, and totally brilliant!!! Give me a trowel and some bricks and some mortar and I'll start building it myself... :)

Simon said...

hi Aurora...thanks for that. I'm sure it will be a pleasure. We must save the people of Alberta from that horrible fate...

Simon said...

hi JD....I have no objection to naming something like a tar pond after him, but only after a reasonable amount of time has passed, and so has he... ;)

Simon said...

hi lagatta...OMG. If I turned on RadCan and heard Tony Abbott yowling away in Australian I think I would faint. And file a complaint with the language police, or the regular police. Isn't it great that within a couple of months both him and Harper were both thrown out of office?
They did deserve each other, and deserved the same fate...

Simon said...

hi Noah...that's a good one, as is your list of suggestions. In fact I understand the petition to name the Calgary landfill site after him is doing rather well...

Simon said...

hi anon...oh that's a good one too. And very easy to remember... ;)

lagatta à montréal said...

Yes, after the infamous C.R.A.P.

Simon said...

hi Deb...unfortunately I'm not on Facebook, so I couldn't read it. But knowing you I'm sure it was a good one. And anything would be better than naming an airport after him. If I was on a plane and a flight attendant announced that we were about to land at Stephen Harper Airport, I'd ask for a parachute and jump out first... ;)

Simon said...

hi e.a.f...well that's true, we can't be too harsh on Calgary, Nenshi is the mayor, and it has been showing some encouraging signs of liberating itself...

This just smacks of a very sad attempt to salvage any shred of integrity for this now-former government. Man, it feels nice to be able to say that. Anyhow, its all completely ridiculous as I can't think of a situation where something was named after a politician immediately after they left public office this country. These things only happen (if they do indeed happen) after a much longer passage of time once that person's accomplishments/contributions have been fully assessed/appreciated. I'm stunned the idiot that proposed this isn't aware of this. Ok, he's obviously a Con supporter, so perhaps I shouldn't be.

Unknown said...

You can't do what Stephen Harper and those who supported him did for long and still have any real empathy and compassion for others. For people like this display is the most important thing, they value power above all and the creation of the illusion of their perfection.

In my opinion Harper supporters want to enshrine their leader because of this. Harper clearly didn't give a damn about anyone but himself and those who fed into his sense of personal grandeur, his record isn't going to useful in the slightest to build his legacy and that of the sick political movement he led.

Which leaves him with constructing more fake patheons to his greatness. All to fool the gullible in the coming years to think that the Harper years actually meant something beyond greed and hatred held by the privileged few towards the many.

This is all part of trying to rebuild the kind of conservative paradise that most of us associate with hell.

Hi Simon, I was born in Albertonia and grew up under Tory rule. I finally escaped 2 years ago and moved to BC where I now live under the #Chrustyrainbow. When Alberta voted in the NDP I kind of felt cheated and thought the people finally woke up but the Federal results proved me wrong. At least the riding I was from gave Uppal the boot. Hopefully, I haven't heard the recount results yet. So there are some good people there , let's get them out and put up that wall. Or maybe a dome..

How about some compromise here, I suggest they rename the Calgary Airport to the Stephen Harper Arbitraily Renamed International Airport, or SHARIA for short.
