As we all know, Peter MacKay has been trying to make us believe that he's more of a manly manly leader than Justin Trudeau. By acting like an ape, weaponizing misogyny, again. And trying to label Trudeau as a sissy or a girly boy, for the "crime" of practicing yoga. But sadly for MacKay, his ugly smear appears to be backfiring. After the bellowing ape was revealed to be nothing more than a squawking chicken.
In Montreal this evening fourteen light beams will rise from the top of Mount Royal, one by one into the sky. One for every woman murdered in the École Polytechnique Massacre 30-years-ago. Murdered just for being women, by a man who hated feminists.
They were so young, they were so full of hope in the future.
Only to have their dreams of being engineers, so long reserved for men, brutally extinguished in a few murderous minutes. And then have their legacy defiled by Stephen Harper and his bestial Cons. Who like the Scheer Cons cared more about god and guns, than they cared about women and girls. And didn't give a damn about the effects of gun violence.
The bastards. I remember how angry I used to be to see the gun lobby treat the murdered women as The Enemy for making them look bad. I remember how they insisted that the massacre was the work of a madman not a misogynist. And how some of them threatened to kill me for refusing to believe that cowardly lie. So I can't tell you how relieved I am to see that after thirty years, attitudes are finally changing. At last, 30 years later, the reluctance of officialdom to call what happened what it was has been made right. A new sign has just gone up in the Place-du-6-décembre-1989, a memorial park at the base of the U of M campus, on the corner of Decelles Street and Queen Mary Road.
The old sign said only that there had been a tragedy.
The new sign states that 14 women were murdered in an anti-feminist attack at École Polytechnique on Dec. 6, 1989. It condemns all forms of violence against women. And that the legacy of the Montreal Massacre is finally being rescued. It also makes me happy to know that we now have a prime minister who supports women's rights, and is proud to call himself a feminist.
Who is working to curb gun violence. And who will be on Mount Royal tonight when those fourteen beams of light rise into the sky.
So after so many years I can at last feel sure that the legacy of those murdered women will live on. Always remember their names. Geneviève Bergeron, 21 - Hélène Colgan, 23 - Nathalie Croteau, 23 - Barbara Daigneault, 22 - Anne-Marie Edward, 21 - Maud Haviernick, 29 - Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz, 31 - Maryse Laganière, 25 - Maryse Leclair, 23 - Anne-Marie Lemay, 22 - Sonia Pelletier, 23 - Michèle Richard, 21 - Anne St-Arneault, 23 - Annie Turcotte, 21 Always honour their memory...
And keep their precious legacy alive. By demanding an end to the violence against women and girls. And fighting forever for a more equal world...
Andrew Scheer is looking a lot more humble than he was just two days ago, when he described his humiliating loss as a " first step" to victory. And said he couldn't wait to go after Justin Trudeau again. Now the sounds of sharpening knives seem to have tempered his wild enthusiasm. But don't be fooled, he's still the same Ugly American.
A few days ago I wrote a post about the young activist Greta Thunberg after she completed her amazing voyage across the Atlantic. Only to find myself having to delete one disgusting comment after the other. And discover to my horror that climate change deniers and other grotesque Cons all over the world have been trying to bully that brave young woman. Even going so far or so low to mock her Asperger's syndrome, as this dirty old Trumpling does here.
It had been over a week since the Liberals dug up a tape of Andrew Scheer comparing LGBT Canadians to dogs. And about four days since his Cons were caught lying about abortion in Quebec. But still the cowardly Scheer remained huddled with his advisers, and refusing to show his face. Until at last he was forced to hold a newser, and what a disaster it was.
It's been a long time since I read anything from Rex Murphy, and a long time since I've seen him, although he lives in my neighbourhood. Which is a good thing since I despise that ghastly little oil pimp, and I'm always afraid I might bump into him. And say something I might regret later. In fact for one magic moment this summer I thought he had retired. But no. He's still around and as disgusting as ever.
I've always suspected that the toxic Trudeau haters who swarm all over this country like foul smelling roaches, despise Trudeau for more than just his policies. And that many who claim they hate him for buying a pipeline or whatever, really hate him for standing up so strongly for the rights of women like no prime minister ever has before him. So I'm glad to see Susan Delacourt write about the misogynistic elephant in the room.
In my last post I wrote that I would try to stay away from the fake scandal as it sinks slowly into the swamp of history. But one thing about that shabby feeding frenzy still bothers me. And that's the way the Cons and the other toxic Trudeau haters tried to portray him as a "fake feminist." In a crass attempt to smear him, and damage the cause of women's rights that he has championed since he came to office. So I'm glad to see someone demolish that fake news argument.
Toxic masculinity is one of the greatest curses of humanity. It turns boys into beasts and bullies. It demeans women, and kills them in horrifying numbers. It drives men to murder each other all over our bloody planet, in one senseless war after the other. It was largely responsible for Donald Trump's victory, and it's what the ghastly Andrew Scheer is trying to use against Justin Trudeau. And since I hate bullies of any kind with a passion. I really like this video.
It's the nightmare that should be keeping us awake at night. The real nightmare at the border. Not the asylum seekers who are harmless, but the sinister right-wingers of America, whose toxic hate is leaking across that border, poisoning our politics. And threatening to turn our country into a jungle. But as least more Canadians in this hopelessly complacent country seem to be wakening up to the monster in their midst.
I think it's safe to say that Andrew Scheer is not the man he used to be. His creepy smile has been replaced by a werewolf snarl. He's angry, he's desperate, his polls are tanking, some in his party are already talking about quickly replacing him if he loses to Justin Trudeau. And that old sinking feeling that time is running out, is driving him to new depths of degradation.
It had to be one of Donald Trump's worst days as President. For the hits just kept on coming. Boom. Boom. Boom. Each one hit him like a cruise missile, left him looking like that other mad emperor. Naked as a baby. Or as grubby as a mobster.
I didn't get to watch much of the U.S. Senate hearing where Christine Blasey Ford testified that Brett Kavanagh once sexually assaulted her. And Kavanagh screamed that the assault never happened, and claimed that it was all a plot by the Democrats to destroy him. But I didn't have to watch much of that ghastly spectacle to know who I believed.
You don't see or hear much from Doug Ford these days. The Team Harper gang who are running his campaign are clearly planning to muzzle their monkey. And turn his bus into a fortress where the media aren't welcome. And who can blame them eh? The last thing they need is the big gorilla trying to answer complicated questions with simplistic slogans he can barely memorize, and looking even more ignorant. Especially since this point at least, Ford is heading for a massive majority. But as if this Gong Show, or Kong show, wasn't scary enough, now we find out the Fordzilla and his supporters are channeling another Con ape.
As you all know I'm sure, Andrew Scheer has been having a terrible week, and you can see the desperation in his face. Even the Con media is getting tired of his never-ending claim that Trudeau took an "illegal vacation" and is starting to ignore him. Or preferring to ask him questions about what he knew about the sordid Dykstra sex scandal. Which he is refusing to answer. Just like I'm sure he would refuse to answer these two questions, that I would like ask him.
One week ago, I wrote about how Andrew Scheer had given his blessing to a certain candidate in a by-election to replace Rona Ambrose. Even though that candidate, Dane Lloyd, was less qualified than some of the other ones in that race. And had once called feminists "feminazis." Well now it turns out that Lloyd has a few other dubious credentials.
For most of the Con leadership campaign, Maxime Bernier was the happy warrior or the happy biker. Roaring down the highway selling extreme libertarianism instead of racism and bigotry like many of the other candidates. But even though that approach has served him well, and propelled him past Kellie Leitch. It seems that the boob from the Beauce is now trying to appeal to her supporters. And the picture is getting a lot darker.
I can't remember a more inspiring sight than the sight of all those millions of women and their supporters marching in Washington and all over the world. Or one that cheered me up more. I was worried that the ghastly predator Donald Trump would get away with all his crimes against women. But the women made it clear he won't.
With only fifteen days to go before the U.S. election, if we were on a plane this would be about the time when the pilot announces "we're now on final approach." Or if you're on the Trump plane the pilot screams "Mayday!! Mayday!! Only God can save us!!!! Hillary Clinton has vaulted to a double-digit advantage in the inaugural ABC News 2016 election tracking poll, boosted by broad disapproval of Donald Trump on two controversial issues: His treatment of women and his reluctance to endorse the election’s legitimacy. Unless you're Donald Trump of course, who is still screaming "MAGA!!! MAGA!!! My campaign is not nosediving!!!!"
I want to look away, I want to escape the insanity, I want to live in our peaceful kingdom, not in some American nightmare. But I can't take my eyes off the horrifying sight of Donald Trump sounding crazier by the moment, and revealing his inner monster. For it is a horror show. It is a total meltdown.
