Extinction Rebellion: A New War on Climate Change begins

They call themselves Extinction Rebellion. This is their declaration.

When Government and the law fail to provide any assurance of adequate protection, as well as security for its people’s well-being and the nation’s future, it becomes the right of its citizens to seek redress in order to restore dutiful democracy and to secure the solutions needed to avert catastrophe and protect the future. It becomes not only our right, it becomes our sacred duty to rebel.

And today their rebellion began.

Humanity's Horrifying War On Animals

If the animals who share this planet with us could send us a message, it would be that one.

But is it already too late?

For at the rate we naked apes are going, there soon won't be many of them left.

Donald Trump and the Man Who Would Torch the Planet

Everybody knew that Donald Trump was a climate change denier, a man who believes that global warming is a hoax.

He's made that abundantly clear...

Over and over again.

But still the flaming orange got elected, and now we're all going to burn with him.

Northern Gateway and the Latest Humiliation of Stephen Harper

Graphic:Press Progress

Once upon a time Stephen Harper must have thought it would be so simple. He'd fly his oily Northern Gateway pipeline from Alberta to beautiful British Columbia.

He'd soar over the Rockies and the Great Bear Rainforest, and ram it into the Pacific.

After muzzling his critics, rejecting scientific evidence, all but ignoring BC's First Nations, and giving the planet a stubby finger.

But sadly for him, first he went down in flames, and now it seems so has his pipeline.

The Burning Planet and the Nasty Surprise

It's going to be a really hot weekend in the place where I live, so I'm hoping to spend as much time as possible at the beach.

But I wonder how much longer I'll be able to do that, as the world just keeps getting hotter and hotter.

How the Trudeau Government Can Stop the Kinder Morgan Pipeline

As expected the National Energy Board has approved the expansion of the Kinder Morgan pipeline.

The National Energy Board (NEB) has recommended approval of the controversial Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain expansion project, subject to a whopping 157 environmental, financial and technical conditions.

But although the decision grates, it is predictable, because the NEB is stacked with Harper appointees.

And the good news is that Justin Trudeau and the people of BC can still make sure that pipeline is never built.

The Fort Mac Beast and Our Fiery Future

I've tried to be as positive and as sensitive as possible about the fire that almost consumed Fort McMurray.

I've tried to point out all the ways that catastrophe has brought us together as Canadians.

And I completely understand why Justin Trudeau and our other political leaders have been reluctant to blame that fiery apocalypse on climate change.

The Real Reason Pope Francis Humiliated Stephen Harper

Well now we know why Pope Francis ruined Stephen Harper's little photo-op at the Vatican the other day.

By giving Harper only ten minutes of his time, compared to the fifty minutes he gave Vladimir Putin.

And looking like he couldn't wait to get rid of him.

But the reason Harper looked so green after the meeting was over...

Graeme MacKay/Hamilton Spectator

Probably had less to do with Putin, and more to do with the Pope's plan to call for a green revolution.

The Battle for Burnaby Mountain and Kinder Morgan's Day of Defeat

They have gathered on Burnaby Mountain to try to prevent the giant energy company Kinder Morgan from drilling a hole through its heart.

Dozens of young and old activists have been arrested.

But today they won a big court victory, and Kinder Morgan got a big slap in the face.

The Day Obama Humiliated Stephen Harper. Again.

Well as you know Stephen Harper has been duelling with the voices in his head. Seeing enemies everywhere, and losing track of what century he's living in.

Two days ago he was channelling Margaret Thatcher, fighting the Cold War all over again.

Challenging Vladimir Putin to knock down the Berlin Wall, and surrender the ethnic vote.

Or ELSE !#@!!!!.

And today he tried to go after Obama only to get clobbered. Or impaled on his own petard.

Stephen Harper and the Final Battle For Canada

For more than eight years he has waged war on Canada and its values.

The Canada he once called a "second tier socialist country." The country whose values he hates so much.

He has assaulted our democracy, smeared and bullied his opponents, muzzled scientists, gutted the census, burned books, and turned his hideous Harperland into a surveillance state, where fear is a weapon, and the Big Lie RULES.

But now he is crazy desperate, his Big Oil dreams are collapsing, and the final Battle for Canada is about to begin.

The Real Reason the Cons Want to Muzzle Elections Canada

)

They are only 25 second ads designed to encourage young Canadians to vote in 2008.

But they are the reason the Cons are trying to muzzle the Chief Electoral Officer.

Not because the ads didn't work, as they claim. But because they offended Big Oil.

The Keystone Cons and the Day of Reckoning

It was a stirring sight.Tens of thousands of protesters braving the freezing cold to try to stop the planet from burning.

Demanding that Obama kill the Keystone XL pipeline.

Canada’s carbon-intensive oilsands industry was the guest of dishonour in Washington on Sunday, where the largest in a series of nationwide climate rallies demanded President Barack Obama call a halt to the controversial Keystone XL pipeline.

Although I HATED the way the New York Times framed this story.

Harperland and the Sad Days of August

I hate this time of the year. When you wish summer would go on forever eh?

But you know it will soon be over.

And as David Frum tweeted recently "Few things on earth are sadder than the last week of a Canadian August."

The Cons and the Country We Could Have Been

It was the first day of my holidays, and I couldn't wait to go sailing eh?

But when Seb and I got down to the lake it was so hot all I could do was just stand there.

Then dive into the cool water to try to escape the suffocating warm wind.

And wonder, as I floated over the broken beer bottles, what will it be like when the planet is really burning? And of course, what have we done?

The Pipeline and the Terrorist Menace

Some days this summer its been too hot to go to the beach.

And when I do go, and I lie there on the baking sand, I can't help thinking of the sun as the enemy.

Burning the life out of the planet.

Christy Clark and the Big Oil Sellout

I wish I could cheer for Christy Clark in her battle with Alison Redford over the future of the Northern Gateway pipeline.

But I just can't eh?

I just don't believe that bartering with someone who wants to shove a pipeline up your ass is something that should be celebrated. At least not in polite company.

The Quebec Students and the Occupy Movement

It was such an awesome sight. Tens of thousands of people marching through the street on a muggy Montreal afternoon.

To show their support for the student movement, denounce a fascist bill.

And show Jean Charest and his corrupt government that they are still THERE.

Stephen Harper and the Redneck Rodeo

It's hard to imagine a more horrible or absurd sight, than Great Black Hat Leader at the Redneck Rodeo.

Posing as a pretty Brokeback cowboy, pursued by a posse of horny passionate admirers. But sounding like a rabid  Alberta separatist.

"I think if the founders could be here today and see the great city, see what has built up around this event, they would be amazed. They would be amazed to see that their Stampede has been part of giving birth to the greatest city and the greatest country in the world," said Harper just before the parade began.

Or the sinister bandido Firewall Steve.
