I never understood how the U.S. State Department could conclude that building the Keystone XL pipeline would not substantially increase carbon emissions.
It didn't make sense.
And sure enough it turns out somebody didn't know how to count.
Because now it seems the pipeline's impact could be FOUR times higher than estimated.
Lordy. I see that Stephen Harper didn't have a very good Good Friday.
His Easter Message was no doubt well received by his dwindling flock, the 28% of Canadians who still support him.
Because they all agree that Jimbo Flaherty would want the Cons to keep his legacy alive.

By killing government in his memory.
If Stephen Harper fails to get his precious Keystone pipeline, he'll have Tom Steyer to blame almost as much as Barack Obama.
Because the anti-pipeline billionaire has just produced a devastating poll that could kill the project dead.
By reminding his fellow Americans that Harper's bitumen won't be fuelling their country, it will be fuelling China.
For years, a majority of Americans have been telling pollsters they favour building the long-delayed Keystone XL pipeline. But if asked whether it makes a difference that Alberta’s oil sands crude could be exported to China then sentiment turns negative, according to the project’s opponents.
According to the poll, overwhelming majorities of Americans want Congress to “make sure” it knows where the oil is going and want TransCanada executives to testify under oath that the oil will stay in the United States.
Which pulls the carpet out from under Harper and his oil pimps.
TransCanada, backed by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and a slew of Canadian premiers, have pitched Keystone XL as a reliable source of much-needed oil from a trusted ally.
But environmentalists and other anti-Keystone XL groups claim the oil is no longer needed in the United States where domestic production has soared and that what Canada really wants is an export route to finance vast new development of the oil sands.
And undermines the support of even some of the pipeline's strongest backers.
Consider, for instance, the responses to this question: “Would it concern you a lot, a little, or not at all, if oil flowing through the Keystone XL pipeline ended up in China?”
Overall, 87 per cent agree that would concern them, with the concern greatest among conservatives – who otherwise tend to back the pipeline most strongly.
And who can blame those Americans eh?
For who wants to be called a SUCKER?
And who do you think Obama would rather favour?
The irritating RepubliCon Harper and his Chinese Big Oil buddies? Or his Democratic base, and big party donors like Steyer?
Yup, the oil pimp has met his match.
And it couldn't be more ironic eh?
Once Harper ignored the Chinese and called them "godless communists."
And now that he can't wait to jump into bed with them.
He risks being hoisted on his own petard...
And of course it couldn't happen to a nicer person.
Stephen Harper is heading for total humiliation.
And the pipeline shall not PASS...

Well I think it's safe to say that Stephen Harper's Great Tiny Tour of Mexico is shaping up to be the most pathetic foreign trip ever by a Canadian Prime Minister.
For one thing the Three Amigos aren't the Three Amigos anymore, not when the two others hate him.
And he has so little to offer or receive, that he has been forced to resort to desperate measures to occupy his time.
Like hastily organizing his own mini summit with Big Oil.
Well you'd think Stephen Harper and his pipeline pimps would be celebrating the U.S. State Department's decision to declare the Keystone project almost good to go.
The State Department released a report on Friday concluding that the Keystone XL pipeline would not substantially worsen carbon pollution, leaving an opening for President Obama to approve the politically divisive project.
But strangely enough they're not. They're worried, angry, and bitter about BILLIONAIRES !!!
Well as you know he's been putting pressure on the Obama administration to approve his Keystone XL pipeline.
And so have his Republican buddies.
Republican leaders in Congress are planning a legislative offensive to force the White House’s hand on the Keystone XL pipeline decision if the Obama administration does not declare its support for the project in the coming weeks.
Eric Cantor, the House Majority Leader, said Republicans are considering attaching a Keystone decision to a new law to raise the debt ceiling, which may be needed by the end of February for the U.S. to avoid another financial crisis.
But it's all going horribly wrong.
Oh no. Not ANOTHER sordid Con scandal. How many more can we endure, how much longer can Stephen Harper keep debasing himself, shaming us in the eyes of the world?
And how dare he make the TAXPAYERS pay for HIS political debauchery !!!
Well I see that Stephen Harper hasn't dared reply to Tom Steyer's letter demanding to know whether he has been working with the Tea Party extremists to blackmail the U.S. government.
We have a saying in the United States that I believe may also resonate in Canada: When you go to bed at night with no snow on the ground, and you wake up in the morning to find snow, you can safely conclude it snowed.
And I must say I'm not surprised eh? Not just because he'd rather not admit that his Harperite oil pimps HAVE been lobbying the Tea Party extremists like a gang of Nigerian spammers.
But also because him and his Con gang are teabaggers themselves. Their stealthy ideological twins.
Uh oh. I knew Stephen Harper's all out offensive to try to force Obama to approve the Keystone pipeline was going to end badly eh?
First he made a fool of himself by declaring that he wouldn't take no for an answer.
Now Tom Steyer wants to know if he's been collaborating with the Republican teabaggers who are trying to shutdown the U.S. government.
Well I see Stephen Harper has returned from his disastrous attempt to try to force Obama to approve the Keystone pipeline.
And that after shooting himself in both legs by insulting the American President, the long ride back from New York City was more like Napoleon's retreat from Moscow than Lincoln's march to victory.
OMG. Sound the humiliation alert siren. I just KNEW that Stephen Harper's deranged Crusade to try to get Obama to aprove the Keystone Pipeline was going to end badly.
I knew the writing was on the wall when his army of Con lobbyists was laughed out of Washington after trying to fool the Americans into believing that the Big Oil boys in Alberta were model environmentalists.
And that Great Green Leader was the next best thing to Mother Nature...
Uh oh. It looks like Stephen Harper has been exposed. He's been trying to fool the Americans into thinking he's a REAL environmentalist, so Obama will give him his precious Keystone pipeline.
But being called a tongue biter, or a muzzler, by the New York Times, isn't going to help.
OMG. How embarrassing. I see that old Con man Joe Oliver just won't give up. Once he tried to fool us into thinking that the water from the tar ponds would be safe to drink.
Now he's in New York trying to scam the Americans into believing that the Cons are real environmentalists.
Well as you know, Stephen Harper is trying to convince Obama to approve the Keystone XL pipeline, by claiming he's serious about reducing green house gas emissions.
And as you also know, I believe the pipeline will be one of the casualties of a missile strike on Syria, as Obama tries to repair the damage to his political base.
Especially since Big Oil now claims it doesn't need it.
But this is the ad campaign that should finish it off...
Well at least we now know what Stephen Harper expects for his strong support of Obama's missile strike on Syria.

He has bombarded us with propaganda about the War of 1812, to show us how we beat the Americans eh?
But now that the Americans are threatening to invade us again, it appears that Great Patriotic Leader is preparing to surrender.

Well we all know he's an oil pimp. We all know he says he's an economist.
We all know he's been claiming that the Keystone XL pipeline would create tens of thousands of jobs in the United States.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper told an American audience today that the Keystone XL pipeline "absolutely needs to go ahead." Harper said the project will create 40,000 jobs south of the Canadian border and that can't be ignored.
And trying to embarrass Obama into approving the Keystone XL pipeline.
But unfortunately for Great Oily Leader you can't fool all the people all the time. And unlike him Obama CAN count.
