Donald Trump and the Death of the Republican Party

He has been holed up in his bunker in the Trump Tower slowly going crazy, or crazier.

His aides say one moment he is depressed, the next moment he is delirious.

But yesterday afternoon Donald Trump finally emerged for a few brief moments, to wave to his shell shocked supporters and pump his fist in the air.

After issuing a defiant statement.

But while Trump rages in his golden bubble, his party is abandoning him.

As more and more Republicans run for cover, or jump off his sinking ship.

The Republican Party began abandoning Donald J. Trump on Saturday after the release of a video showing him speaking of women in vulgar sexual terms, delivering a punishing blow to his campaign and plunging the party into crisis a month before the election.

By midday, no fewer than 21 Republican members of Congress and governors who had backed Mr. Trump disavowed his candidacy, an unprecedented desertion by the institutional Republican Party of its own standard-bearer.

With some demanding that the Republican Party replace Trump with the sinister religious fanatic Mike Pence...

While others no doubt wish they could do what Robert De Niro says he'd like to do, and punch him in the face.

But sadly for them it seems there is nothing they can do to dump Trump.

The party’s rules state that “the Republican National Committee is hereby authorized and empowered to fill any and all vacancies which may occur by reason of death, declination, or otherwise of the Republican candidate for president of the United States.”

That essentially means that Mr. Trump would have to die or become incapacitated for the Republican Party to replace him.

Unless they can wheel him out on a stretcher, or carry him out in s straitjacket.

And good luck convincing his deplorables that he is too flawed to be President...

Because many of them are already going after any Republican who dares suggest that Trump should be replaced.

And they are crazy....

Which of course is excellent news for the Democrats.

For the longer Trump remains the Republican candidate, the more him and his rabid supporters will tear that party apart...

And on this Thanksgiving weekend what more can we ask for eh?

Isn't it great to be a progressive, and feel like this?

Give thanks that our nightmare is almost over.

And have a great weekend everybody...

Lost in this is the irony that Winnie was actually talking about a flawed AND CAPABLE Man (himself, but he wasn't as capable as he thought.)

Trump is all flaws.

"Give thanks that our nightmare is almost over."

How absurd. So Trump is just as unpresidential as Bill Clinton who molested an intern while president? Just as much as a sex-crazed boor?

Oh, that's right! This kind of behavior is acceptable if it's from someone pretending to be a Democrat, but hysterically outrageous from someone pretending to be a Republican.

I find Hillary's secret speeches to Wall Street much more disturbing than the secretly-recorded locker-room banter of a businessman from a decade ago.

I am much more concerned about a bribe-taking crook who lets the private prison industry write criminal law, the military industrial complex write foreign policy and Wall Street write the banking regulations.

Sex talk is just talk. This kind of corruption is causing enormous destruction around the globe. It has put civilization at the brink of collapse.

I couldn't watch the first debate, but I will be watching the town hall this evening.

If this doesn't finish him off, there may be more surprises in the coming weeks. For months I've been thinking that the out takes from The Apprentice would be worthy of public consumption.

If the Republican party is serious, offer the bum $1 billion and he'll step down.

Hillary is all flaws + anti-democracy bribe-taking corruption + war profiteering.

Trump owes hundreds of million that he hasn't got to Deuchebank. Deuchebank owes US Treasury a $15billion fine and they don't have the money. They are trying to negotiate down to $5B.If they assign Trumps debts to Treasury and Hillary wins , there could be an orange aneurism at the tower.

Surely Simon you cant see Hillary as a progressive in any way? Its Jeb Bush is a pantsuit vs Archie Bunker.

There are hints about a Republican party breakup but no real discussion yet. The wedges Trump is driving may result in a basket of small, single issue parties. Fundamentalist Christians, white supremacist and businessmen could all need their own turf.

Trump just destroyed Hillary in the debate. Good night left side.

hi Dan...I recently watched a great documentary on Churchill's early years, and it was really fascinating. For it showed that Churchill was flawed by his giant ego, and did make some monumental mistakes, like Gallipoli for example. But he was also a very smart, brave, and capable man who eventually found himself at the right place at the right time. And having the Trump gang compare their man to him is absolutely absurd...

Trump certainly upped his game. An aggressive boisterous bully on steroids. Although I am not a fan of Hilray she did demonstrate ability to remain cool and logical under a barrage of personal half to zero truth attacks.Unless you are part of the retro crowd dreaming of a miraculous return to past illusionary glory days Hillary is the only rational choice. Its a sad choice but the electorate have to play the cards their big money electoral system has dealt them.

hi anon 10:28...Hillary Clinton is indeed a flawed candidate, but she is infinitely more competent than Trump. And her flaws pale in comparison with his. For he is also a bigot, a bully, a bestial misogynist, and a man unfit to be a dog catcher let alone a President...

Simon said...

hi anon....Bill Clinton may have been a horny old goat, but to my knowledge the sex was consensual, while Trump is a misogynist who would sexually assault women, and that's a big difference. It's not just locker-room banter, it's the man he is. And anybody who trusts a corrupt billionaire, who would give his fellow one-percenters even bigger tax breaks, eliminate the minimum wage, and thinks global warming is a hoax, must be living in a parallel universe. And Trump is the one who would bring about the collapse of civilization....

Simon said...

hi TS...yes, there are apparently other grotesque tapes, like the ones from The Apprentice where he apparently uses the N word to describe black people. And his town hall debate showed him to be both a bully and a low creature. His goose is cooked and only his Trumplings don't know it....

Simon said...

hi anon....that amount probably wouldn't be enough for a man like Trump, who has deluded himself into thinking that he is god's gift to humanity. And the other problem is that if the Republicans did try to remove him from the ticket, Trump's rabid followers would tear them and their part apart....

Simon said...

hi rumleyfips...who knows what Trump owes and to whom? Until we see his tax returns we can have no idea of what shady dealings he is involved in. But I'm pretty sure that he is in hock to the corrupt oligarchs in Russia, and if that's the case his behaviour is bordering on treason....

Simon said...

hi Steve....as I've said before, I don't see Hillary Clinton as my kind of progressive. As you know I am a strong supporter of Bernie Sanders and his revolution. And Bernie is now supporting Clinton because he knows very well how dangerous Trump is, and that Our Revolution stands a better chance of growing with Hillary Clinton as president, instead of under a fascist who would crush revolution like all fascists do. And that's before even considering that the man is a bigot, a bestial misogynist, and a crazed climate change denier....

Simon said...

hi rumleyfips...the Republican party is caught between a rock and a hard place. If they keep Trump he will take them down with him. And if they try to dump him they will face the wrath of his rabid supporters. They can't win and we can't lose....

Simon said...

hi anon...I don't know what parallel universe you are inhabiting, because the polls say Hillary Clinton won the debate. And Trump only damaged himself further with his sleazy performance. He may have pleased his rabid base, but he disgusted most decent Americans, and believe me he will be defeated...
