Ezra Levant is the most grotesque bully I have ever encountered. A porcine right-wing extremist who peddles bigotry for profit.
And the money he makes attacking Justin Trudeau, is only matched by the money he makes attacking the former child soldier Omar Khadr.
So when he heard that Khadr would be part of a panel discussion on child soldiers at Dalhousie University, he set off for Halifax to confront the man he hates so much.
It wasn't long ago that I told you that Andrew Scheer and his grubby Cons had dropped the Omar Khadr story like a hot potato.
Or a poisonous snake.
After spending days trashing our country in the United States for crass political purposes.
And now we know why.
Andrew Scheer may be the new leader of the religious right in Canada, but he seems to have as much respect for the Ten Commandments, as he does for our Canadian values.
Especially the commandment that instructs him to "not bear false witness".
So I'm glad to see that somebody has challenged this obscene article in the Toronto Star.
Blown the halo off his head, wiped his satanic smile off his face.
When Stephen Harper stumbled into the night after his humiliating election defeat at the hands of Justin Trudeau, I thought it would be a long long time before we saw or heard from him again.
And for almost two years that seemed to be the case, as he kept a very low profile, or only came out after midnight.
But now the Omar Khadr settlement has roused him from his crypt.
And he's back and as ugly as ever.
I've been having too much of a good time sailing and fishing in the north of Scotland to keep up with what has been happening in Canada.
But everywhere I go, as soon as people find out I'm a Canadian, they can't wait to tell me how much they admire Justin Trudeau.
And how they wish he was their prime minister.
So you can imagine how shocked I was to find out that Trudeau is in trouble back home.
I've written many posts about the case of Omar Khadr. I consider the way that Canadian child soldier was treated by his own government to be one of the worst legal travesties in modern Canadian history.
And one that should shame us all.
So I'm glad to see that he is finally going to get some justice.
And as usual, I am disgusted by the reaction of Cons like Jason Kenney.
Well what a difference a day makes. On Wednesday I was worried that Justin Trudeau was being too nice to the Cons.
And warned him it would get him nowhere.
But yesterday Justin and his government more than made up for that momentary lapse.
By delivering two more crushing blows to Stephen Harper's foul legacy.
In the last nine years I wrote more than 100 posts about the case of Omar Khadr, because I considered it one of the most shameful episodes in modern Canadian history.
And could never accept that a Canadian child soldier could be tortured and jailed in a place like Guantanamo. And abandoned by his own government.
But this will probably be my last post about him.
Not because the case is over, it isn't. The federal government is still appealing his release on bail.
But because amazingly enough it seems to have had a happy ending.
In a country full of Stephen Harper's victims, Omar Khadr is without a doubt the one who suffered the most.
The one he went after like a bully in heat, or a rabid animal. The one he allowed to be tortured in a place like Guantanamo, even though he was a child soldier.
The one he demonized to please his bloodthirsty bigot base, suck up their sucker dollars, and pleasure his inner demons. While muzzling that young Canadian for almost ten years, and never letting us hear his story.
So I'm glad to see that the Liberal government may finally be preparing to end this monstrous travesty of justice.
I'm not big on conspiracy theories, although I do believe that when living in Harperland paranoia can be a higher state of consciousness.
But here's one for you:
Why did the RCMP choose yesterday to release the unseen video of the crazed gunman who stormed Parliament Hill?
Of all the Canadians Stephen Harper has muzzled during his reign of terror nobody was muzzled more than Omar Khadr.
For years Harper prevented the media from meeting with him, hearing about his ordeal, or even taking his picture. So he could portray Khadr as a monster.
And since I have never defended anyone as long and as strongly as I have that child soldier, you can imagine how I feel to see him ride free at last.
And hear him tell his story in his own words.
It's the third time the Supreme Court of Canada has been asked to rule on the case of Omar Khadr.
Twice before it has ruled in his favour, and today it did so again.
And the way it did couldn't have been more of a slap in the face, or a kick in the head, to the Con regime and its depraved leader.
I'm very sorry to see that Elizabeth May is very sorry about livening up the deadly dull Press Gallery Dinner, with a choice comment about Stephen Harper and his cabinet.
Green party Leader Elizabeth May says she is "very apologetic" about remarks she made on the weekend that included profanity and insulted the federal cabinet about how it has treated Omar Khadr.
May played a recording of "Welcome back Kotter" -- a theme song from a 1970s sitcom -- and stated that Khadr has "more class than the whole f---ing cabinet."
Because while she does owe everyone an apology for playing the theme song from "Welcome back Kotter." That was a faux pas.
In the matter of Omar Khadr she was only speaking truth to power.
Oh dear. It looks like Stephen Harper is not too happy to see Omar Khadr go free.
He wants him back in his dark dungeon so he can torture him some more.
And his barely repressed desire to inflict pain on others, or jail them, is making him sound like a crazy man.
I have no idea where Stephen Harper is or what he's doing. He hasn't tweeted a word for 48 hours. His squawking Twitter site has suddenly gone silent
But I bet that cartoon is a pretty good representation of his state of mind.
Because he must be absolutely desperate.
After rolling along for months like Cinderella in her golden pumpkin, suddenly EVERYTHING is going wrong.
And he must be a REAL mess.
I wrote my first post on Omar Khadr eight years ago, and called it The Guantanamo Kid and Canada's Shame.
And nothing that has happened since has ever changed my view.
For what was done to that child soldier has been one of the most shameful episodes in modern Canadian history, and an absolute travesty of justice.
So you can imagine how happy I felt today when I saw that picture of Omar walking free in his own country at last. Or read these words.
As you know Stephen Harper and Jason Kenney made a surprise visit to Iraq, to try to whip up interest in the Great War on Terror.
Which has been flagging badly as the days get warmer and most Canadians tune it out.
And as the war fever fades, so do fears about the Great Terrorist Menace.
Especially since the ISIS crazies have yet to attack us, despite all Harper and Kenney have done to provoke an attack, by blowing hot air out of every orifice...
So the Cons are now so desperate they're going after Omar Khadr. Again.
Years ago I predicted that Canadians who didn't care about the way Stephen Harper was raping the human rights of the child soldier Omar Khadr would live to regret it.
For if he was able to get away with it once, and enjoy the taste of blood in his mouth, it was only a matter of time before the monster would try to rape THEIR rights
And sure enough here we are living in his ghastly Harperland, where the bully is trying to use fear to win an election, while stealthily turning us into a police state.
And the way he has treated Omar Khadr tells us all we need to know about the monstrous nature of his Con regime.
Over the last eight years I have written almost a hundred posts about the case of Omar Khadr, Canada's child soldier.
For I consider it one of the greatest cases of injustice in the history of this country, a shameful episode that should haunt us forever.
So you can imagine how I felt today when I read that he may finally be free.
We have all read the horrifying stories about the CIA's torture campaign. The systematic brutality, the mechanical cruelty, the monstrous depravity.
And a lot of Americans are finally understanding how they got from 911 to Ferguson.
When hijacked airliners slammed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and an empty Pennsylvania field in 2001 everyone knew that the United States was changed forever. We had no idea, though, that what we are told are our essential values would be surrendered. Now thirteen years on we are left with a legacy of wars, deceit, torture and a massive erosion of our basic liberties.
But I wonder how many Canadians understand how far down the road to torture and depravity Stephen Harper has taken this country.
