The Ugly Cons and the Incredible Contracting Leadership Race

The last time the Cons held a leadership contest, just about everybody agreed that there were too many candidates, and it was real horror show..

But this time the Cons have another problem, an incredible contracting leadership race.

Where there are now so few candidates, some are worried it could end up looking like the coronation of Peter MacKay.

Which, of course, would be another real horror show.

Or as the former Harper speech writer Michael Taube says, for the Cons a real disaster.

The federal Tory leadership race is underway. While the filing deadline is Feb. 27, some are starting to wonder if it’s going to become a near-coronation.

This doesn’t mean other leadership candidates, like Tory MPs Erin O’Toole and Marilyn Gladu, will roll over for MacKay. But when the possibility of a political coronation begins to take shape, it can easily turn into a steamroller effect. If so, the race will almost be over before it’s even started.

While Andrew MacDougall, the former Harper flak, wants to know why the Cons are contracting instead of expanding.

So much for expanding the tent.

The way the Conservative leadership race is unspooling, there won’t be enough credible candidates left to screw in the light bulb that so desperately needs to spark up over the party’s head if it is to remove Justin Trudeau from office.

We’re now two weeks into the festivities and there are no high-profile female candidates. There are no star candidates with non-white skin. Just two middle-aged white dudes barking at each other over who’s the better Conservative: the slightly pinkish Peter MacKay versus “true-blue” Erin O’Toole.

Wondering why both Dumbo and Dimbo are trying to out butch each other.

To be fair to MacKay, it’s O’Toole who’s been doing most of the barking about who’s butch enough to be a “true” Con; MacKay has been too busy spurting tautological Trudeauisms like “Canada is strong because Canadians make it strong” and “Canada is free because Canadians keep it free.”

Lord knows Canadian politics is missing lots of things these days but vacuity isn’t one of them.

As well as wondering what Dumbo has against yoga.

MacKay now claims he was not "happy" with that tweet.

MacKay said he wants to maintain a "civilized" tone in his campaign for the Conservative leadership and thinks that tweet crossed a line. But he said he won't apologize for it or take it down.

But he won't apologize for its grotesque misogyny. Or explain how he can possibly describe his campaign as "civilized," when he has been talking about how he'd like to fight Justin Trudeau in a cage, or on ice without a helmet.

I mean really. Somebody please throw the ape a banana.

But then that's all part of the bigger problem. The fact that the Cons are still the party of the Trudeau hating Andrew Scheer...

Who was out again today in Question Period, spewing the same toxic Trudeau hate out of every orifice, that he has for more than two years. He's still the same Ugly American leader, he hasn't changed a bit.

And since he's made it known that he's not going anywhere.

Even after a new leader is chosen, he will still be the leader or Con Pope of the religious fanatics who now make up more than 30% of the caucus.

The racists, the misogynists, the homophobes, the climate change deniers.

And who wants to be the leader of a party like that one?

If they had wanted to at least try to renew their rotting party, the Cons should have fired Scheer as soon as the election was over.

Forced him to hibernate long ago...

But they didn't.  So Scheer will still be out there for another five months, reminding most Canadians why they didn't vote for him and his ugly Cons.

Which could keep the Cons in hibernation for at least a generation, or at the very least give Justin Trudeau another majority.

They allowed themselves to become the Trudeau hating party of Harper and Scheer. They couldn't change.

And now they're going to pay for it...

I just saw over at 338 Canada a new Léger poll suggesting that if Dumbo's language skills don't improve, he could end up leading the Cons to an apocalyptic crash of 24% and gift the Liberals with close to 200 seats. If that happens, he could end up com-Pete-ing for third or even fourth place with the Bloc and NDP. Taube might be onto something: when was the last time the Conservatives were reduced to a rump and the Bloc ended up as official opposition to a Liberal majority? Oh, right, 1993 with Kim Campbell coronated to lead the party that Pete and Steve later killed!

This is why I hope the Liberals tell the Cons to get stuffed, and go ahead anyway with those CRTC "Fairness Doctrine" recommendations that Scheer and Rempel were squawking about. It's about time the media faced some accountability for how they've run interference for these atrocious Con candidates for far too long. The media is going to try and make a stud out of a spud and it's up to us not to let them. The potato prince needs to get French fried in the next election, and walk home to his old man's farm like a sad border collie with his tail between his legs!

"So Scheer will still be out there for another five months, reminding most Canadians why they didn't vote for him and his ugly Cons."

How stupid is that, Simon? Trotting Smirky McDimplyDouche out into the HoC to regurgitate his usual vomit onto us Canadians, who by the way have had our fill of his bile. The epitome of a failure calling JT a failure would be laughable if it wasn't so pathetic.
The ridiculous 300k entry fee the Cons are demanding is a litmus test as to who has the backing of the deep corporate pockets the Cons so desperately need. It's all about the money. I doubt she will be backed up by those deep pockets but I do hope the mare of Calgary, Michelle Rempel enters the race because you can guarantee that Pete the misogynist will let his foul mouth get him into trouble by exposing his disdain for women. So, on that note I say c'mon Michelle, giddy up go! Time to give potato Pete a good swift kick in his old bag...of tricks.

And Robin Camp back in the news, Macho Mac Daddy probably shitting himself seeing Rona on TV talking about reintroducing her bill on sexual assault training for judges. He was the MoJAG who appointed the nasty rape apologist from apartheid South Africa whose disgusting comments inspired that bill in the first place. Liberals wanting dirt on Pete don't really have to dig much deeper than his own Wikipedia page. Figures his latest photo op was at Pierre Trudeau International (where he still can't speak French) since Chopper has more baggage than an airline terminal. Gonna be a long six months but Pete keeps giving Justin so many greatest-hits records to dust off that Justin must think he inherited the fortune of Columbia House.

I love Airshow MacKay tweeting about how he plays hockey, a "proper" sport for wipeepo. Trudeau, OTOH, does yoga, some weird activity for soccer moms and brown people. And the Cons wonder why they made no headway in the 905! LOL!

Now why would the Liberals want dirt on anyone?? Oh of course... Despite their claim that they are all about positive politics and sunny ways, the Liberals being Liberals are really pathetic hypocrites and are no better than any other party out there.

Agree its a money barrier to keep the ReformACons from gaming the ranked ballot selection system by running a candidate in every region, attacking other candidates over language, corruption, etc in order to split up red Tory vote consolidation and then consolidate their own votes down to the "chosen one" in the 3rd or 4th round. The holy crowd certainly gamed the system the last time but perhaps the Cons will discover this time they created another problem with the high entry barrier.

"Dirt" in this case being shorthand for, "his own appalling record, there for anyone to see". As opposed to manufactured and/or overly exaggerated bullshit involving doughnuts, costume parties, crude homophobic double entendres using the word "beard," and libelous Lolita fanfic about prep schools in Vancouver. If this is the Disaffected Lib, please go back to your own appalling corner of the Internet and stew in conspiracy filth about Chinese food and Trudeau's sex life, quarantined far away from the rest of us civilized beings. Or go de-stress and do some yoga. Namaste.

I am sure the holy crowd must be having nightmares over MacKay sleeping with the enemy. Interesting times!

Nazanin Afshin-Jam is an Iranian-Canadian entertainer, public speaker and human rights activist. She is a former Miss World Canada. She is also president and co-founder of Stop Child Executions as well as the founder of "The Nazanin Foundation". She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1981. Wikipedia

Hi Jackie....I haven't taken the time to study the "Fairness Doctrine" recommendations. I'm still recovering from the shock of seeing the Liberals trying to save their enemies in the Con media. But I'm pretty sure that Dumbo will bomb in Quebec for more than his poor language skills. And by posing as a Red Tory, which he definitely is not, could do real damage to the Cons all over the country....

Hi JD....Keeping Scheer on makes no sense, but since The Ugly American made the incredibly dumb Leona Alleslev deputy leader, they couldn't fire him or they would be stuck with her. Which is of course the reason Scheer appointed her. As for the $300,000 entry fee it's clearly designed to keep out anyone who doesn't have the support of powerful Con bagmen, but is keeping so many out they could hold their convention in a telephone booth. I'm not sure what exactly is happening behind the curtain, but I look forward to finding out....

Hi RT....I'm sure the Con establishment is hoping that the high entrance fee will help keep the religious fanatics at bay. But there are so many in the party that I doubt it will work. For unless one candidate has a huge lead over the others, sooner or later he or she will have to go on bended knee and ask the social conservatives for their support. And promise to give them at least some of what they are demanding, or watch them stay at home on Election Day. So it seems to me that one way or another the Cons are screwed...

Hi Unknown....You may have to wait a while because I'm not sure I have the time or the energy to write about the ghastly Beyak. The political scene is ugly enough without having to think about Beyak. But we'll see....

Simon said...

Hi anon...yes, that's a very good point. Yoga is very popular in Canada, so MacKay is shooting himself in both feet by going after those who practice it. But then that's why they call him Dumbo....

Simon said...

Hi RT....Yes, Afshin-Jam is in my opinion too good for Dumbo, but the religious fanatics will no doubt hold being born in Iran against her. Too bad for them...

Hi Jackie....Yes, MacKay seems to think he can bury his past, and that most Canadians won't remember the terrible things he did when working for the hideous Harper regime. But some like me kept a daily diary of their atrocities and I will make it my mission to remind as many people as I can....

Hi anon....The Liberals are indeed a sunny lot, and unlike the Scheer and company do not spend all their time trying to smear their opponents. But I think it's important to make sure that Canadians know the scummy record of the Cons, so bring on a front loader!!!
