Andrew Scheer and the Fake Scandal Flop

Ever since the Ethics Commissioner released his report, Andrew Scheer has been in a feverish frenzy. Trying once again to portray the tacky little SNC affair as Canada's biggest scandal EVER.

And demanding that the RCMP investigate and if necessary jail Justin Trudeau.

But while that deranged approach worked for him at the beginning of the year, and helped propel him and his Cons to the top of the polls.

Now it's all going horribly wrong.

For it seems that despite Scheer's desperate attempts to hype the fake scandal again, with the help of the equally aroused Con media, most Canadians couldn't give a damn.

They've seen and heard it all before.

For month after month after month, hour after hour after hour, they were forced to watch people like Vassy Kapelos and her Con media friends doing their best to make  our next prime minister...

So I'm pretty sure this is enough to make many Canadians feel like screaming or vomiting....

More fake scandal, more Scheer, could there be anything more horrifying?

And as a result, Scheer's attempts to fan the flames of the fake scandal seem to be backfiring.

Even Ipsos now has the Liberals and the Cons in a virtual dead heat.

A new Ipsos poll conducted exclusively for Global News suggests the Liberals and Conservatives are in a virtual dead heat, with the Grits up two points since last month to 33 per cent of the decided vote and the Tories at 35 per cent, a two-point drop.

And the old Con hoofer David Akin knows what that virtual dead heat could mean.

With less than two months until Canadians will get their chance to put a mark on a ballot, this kind of tie is as good as a win for the Liberals — perhaps even a majority win.

That’s because the Liberals are crushing it in Quebec and doing well enough in Ontario that, according to several seat-projection models, including one by Global News, the Liberals could actually finish behind the Conservatives when it comes to the popular vote and yet still win a plurality of seats in the 338-seat House of Commons.

In fact, there are some scenarios in which the Liberals could lose the national popular vote and even win a majority of seats.

Finally, there is this new Leger poll that also has good news for the Liberals.

And comes with the best explanation for all of the above:

Leger executive vice-president Christian Bourque said the latest results suggest voters have largely put the SNC-Lavalin affair behind them and moved on to issues that affect them more directly — at least for now.

"I think that those who changed their mind on the PM and turned their backs on him did that in the spring already," Bourque said in an interview. But he said other Canadians appear to be fatigued with the issue and may be thinking "regardless of what I think of the behaviour of the PM, at the end of the day how does this change my life and that of my children, which is nil."

An explanation that hopefully will force the Con media to move on, start concentrating on bigger issues, and allow Canadians to focus on the real question:

At a time when the planet is burning, at a time when right-wing forces are on the move, at a time when bigots are threatening to set this country on fire.

Who do you want as Prime Minister, a real Canadian leader, or a twisted fascist clown?

There goes the fake scandal.

Going, going, gone...

Whew, that's a relief. Abacus also reported no move of the needle, which I thought was good. I do wish Frank would release official tables to Fournier and Grenier, though. Because the only outlier skewing the averages is DART which is an online panel run by hardline Con John Wright, so basically the equivalent of a Fox News survey. But when even Ipsos says the Con numbers are shrinking and David Akin is all set to throw in the towel, you know there's sunny days poking through the clouds. And then there's this -- unverified so far, but whoa if Tru:

Conservative Party insiders are grumbling about Scheer and his campaign team. Speaking on condition of anonymity, they feel with SNC affair they should be well ahead in polls, but say its too late to change leaders.

That being said, we're not out of the woods yet, and won't be until, well, October 22. Trudeau is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't (show up, that is) to the Maclame's debate, which is moderated by none other than axe-grinder Paul "DicklessPW" Wells. If it had to be Maclame's, why couldn't they have Andray Domise and Tabatha Southey moderate it instead? Some fresh voices instead of the same tired old Con white guys with a vendetta against the PM? When you get a look at the vile responses to the all-female panel of the official leaders' debates, you can clearly see it's long overdue for patriarchy to breathe its last. Because it's 2019.

Anyhow, my birthday is tomorrow and I'm going to make a wish that Trudeau gets re-elected. That's literally all I want as a gift this year. But... as a polite request, Simon, do you think you could whip up a fun article about Our Donald wanting to purchase Greenland (and proclaiming himself the King of Israel)? The madness of King Ubu is truly madness, but your take on it is good for a laugh. :)

Oh, and I've also been doing my part to correct the record by adding a more balanced perspective to the Wikipedia article on l'affaire faux merde. Hopefully today's grandstanding committee hearing registers as just as much of a dud as the anticlimactic report. Lisa Rat is so desperate to score points in her campaign against Adam that she wanted to grill Aaron Wherry in the star chamber. FFS, enough of this crap already.

Canad's Commissioners have destroyed their own credibility by issuing stupid proclamations. The Election Grand Poobah says environmental protection groups had better shut up because Mas Max is speaking. The Privacy Commissioner says there is a danger when political parties note responses to surveys or make notes of their conversations - something they have done forever. The Ethics commissioner says that cabinet discussions are now an evil conflict of interest.

The public has caught on; these people can have their offices, pensions and salries but they are not to be trusted.

Maybe it's time for a media accountability commissioner. Purge the Con-friendly scandal-mongerers and throw the bums out. Trudeau was making an important foreign policy speech where he emphasized the importance of climate action. No coverage, instead a navel-gazing focus on this tiresome circus. Meanwhile, the Amazon is burning and Canada's self-important pundit class are fuddle-duddling with themselves. Priorities!

The media never learns. About this time in 2015 the public polls were indicating there was a three way tie between the Conservatives, the Liberals and the NDP. This lead to endless speculation of who was going to form a government that Fall and how they would do it. The spectre of the dreaded coalition, Stephen Harper losing the popular vote but winning the most seats and other increasingly alarmist and loonie suggestions were bandied about.

It did not come to pass of course because Canadians always collectively decide who they want to govern them and move decisively enough towords that party to leave no doubt about who will form the government after the votes are counted.

The same thing will happen in October and my guess is still a Liberal majority.

The rest of what we are hearing from the media about the polls and the speculation surroundting them is not worth the time to read.

there never was a scandal, we have a rat in the system who told everybody what they already knew.

MS, Your Akin link isn't working. Can you fix it? What did that old CON hack have to say?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACKIE!
My birthday wish for you is that "the chosen one", who is scared shitless of losing in 2020 will go directly from the white house to the big house.

Humans are hardwired to view deception with suspicion. Likely dates back to prehistoric times where fleeting movement along the path ahead could be a carnivore lying in wait, a harmless herbivore or just trees moving in the shadows. Cons are constantly try to manipulate base emotions into advantage but what they don't realize is that people are also hard wired to make an assessment and move on. Most recognized the fake SNC scandal as trees shimmering in the breeze, a few with hyperactive amygdala glands detoured into the swamp or were frozen in fear awaiting more information. The only caveat is that by working to keep the non scandal alive could be a sign the Cons are planning a Cambridge Analytica type coup where a new over hyped tidbit similar to the Weiner/Hillary emails or Patrick Brown accusations pops out of the shadows a short time before election day. The timing of this type of election hack is crucial as it only causes a momentary pause before people assess and move on. Hopefully our election security is ready for it because the Cons know they cannot win without cheating!
Just consider the carbon pricing fiasco. Both Alberta and Ontario had working carbon abatement programs in place, the provincial cons conspired with the federal cons to scrap them in order to force the liberals to impose the carbon pricing backstop which allowed them to promote taxation propaganda while claiming they have a better action plan. The new fiat climate action plan contains many of the same elements they openly conspired to scrap in the first place. Because they scrapped a similar plan they have no intention of implementing the new one,its all about power, cost and the well being of the population they claim to represent means nothing.

Hi Jackie...It took a lot of work, but we arranged to have Justin Trudeau's polls look good just in time for your birthday. So happy birthday from me and all the readers who enjoy your brilliant contributions so much !!!🎉🎉🎉

Lisa Raitt is losing her marbles, but who can blame her? According to what I read she is now trailing her Liberal opponent by thirteen points. Lisa Raitt going, going,gone...

Hi rumleyfips...I don't know what to say about all that nonsense from Canada's commissioners. They sound like a comedy troupe and it would be laughable if it wasn't so serious. So I agree with you, none of them can be trusted....

Hi ottlib...I remember only too well the last few weeks of the last election. I was reduced to hoping for some kind of coalition. So I will never forget how happy I was when the returns from Atlantic Canada came in and I realized we could be looking at a red wave. I believe my friends had to pick me up off the carpet, and fan me before I could believe it. That said, I hope you are right about this year's election, but I fear the Cons with the help of foreign actors are going to try to steal it, so we are going to have to be very organized to make sure the good people win...

Simon said...

Hi Steve....As you know, I agree with you. The scandal was appointing the wrong person to the job. A person who irrespective of whatever other qualities she may have, could not accept that she was not god's gift to humanity....

Simon said...

Hi RT....I also fear that the Cons are planning to try to steal the election, and I have some friends at McGill who are keeping close track of their internet games, and will hopefully bust them at precisely the same time. If what my friends say turns out to be true, a lot of Cons are soon going to find themselves in court, and maybe even jail...

Simon said...

Hi brawnfire....thank you for this. I was thinking of doing the same thing, but you beat me to it. Jackie is a treasure and deserves to be celebrated by all of us...

Jackie Blue said...

Thanks everybody! You've made it a much better day than it usually is!

McGill's a very good school, Simon. I'm guessing that's your alma mater? If so you're in good company with P.J. Fournier the brilliant 338Canada statistician, and of course our hero J.T. !!!

If Donald and some of Canada's GOP North end up behind bars for actual scandalous malfeasance... that would be --- icing on the cake!!! 🎂

Hi Simon:
It is without doubt that someone in the Liberal organization penned a damming SNC email .... it basically happens in any controversy as its really hard to fix stupid 100% of the time. All it takes is a skilled hacker, a well timed anonymous source and the rest is history. Instead of spell checks, key boards need to be electrified when stupid emerges. Hopefully the Cons will be so closely monitored they will not dare try this age old trick with a modern twist for fear of jail time.

Just read that Ratt is so desperate she hired Dirty Nick Kouvalis. 2015 kicked off in the aftermath of a boxing match, four years later it's no-holds-barred mud wrestling. I don't drink, so I'm not going to have a post-birthday hangover, but I may end up with a distended stomach from all the popcorn I'm going to be eating from now until October. 👀 🍿
