It's been about a year since I first started writing about Andrew Scheer's relationship with the Alliance MP Larry Spencer, a man so homophobic he wanted to jail LGBT Canadians.
It hasn't been easy trying to find out what Scheer did when he was Spencer's constituency secretary. Documents have disappeared, and most of what remains has been scrubbed squeaky clean by unseen hands.
And what was just as frustrating, and at times even more depressing, was that hardly anybody seemed to care.
But now that seems to be changing, at least judging by the reaction to this tweet.
It's the one question Andrew Scheer would rather run away from than answer.
For he knows that if Canadians ever learn the truth very few of them would vote for him.
But his dark secret will not go away.
And Michael Coren is the latest to ask this burning question.
It's called "conversion therapy" It's a pseudo scientific practice that uses high pressure psychological techniques to try to turn gay people into straight ones.
Some call it "pray away the gay" because of the many religious fanatics who spend their time trying to "save" LGBT people from themselves.
But in most cases what it amounts to is nothing less than child torture.
A recent Hollywood movie called Boy Erased, is based on a true story, and makes that only too clear.
It takes a certain kind of religious fanatic who would work hard to prevent gay people from visiting their dying lovers in hospital.
It takes a monster to brag about it.
But Jason Kenney did both.
In the early 1990's he helped overturn a spousal rights law in San Francisco.
In the year 2000, in a campaign speech, he bragged about it.
I have always believed that in the sweaty core of every homophobic religious fanatic there lurks a monstrous pervert.
And the case of Roy Moore, a Republican senatorial candidate in Alabama, only proves my point.
Moore believes that the Bible not the U.S. constitution should guide the affairs of government. He believes that homosexuality should be illegal.
He likes to pull out his gun in public.
But now he may have put at least one bullet into the Republican Party.
For weeks I've been trying to warn everyone I know that Stephen Harper is now so desperate that he is planning to make bigotry his secret weapon in his election campaign.
His sinister silence after the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report spoke volumes. Even as a torrent of hatred poured out of the comment pages all over the country.
His decision to introduce an anti-niqab bill on the last day of Parliament made it clear that he intends to use it as a wedge issue. Dangle it like a piece of meat in front of his rabid base, and whip them into a foaming frenzy of anti Muslim hatred.
And now he's going after another marginalized group: LGBT Canadians.
The other day I wrote about how appalled I was to see that Stephen Harper, and his ghastly stooge Peter MacKay, had appointed an anti-gay judge.
A law professor named an Ontario judge this week wrote two years ago for a conservative, U.S.-based institute that the legalization of same-sex marriage in Canada has harmed religious freedom and free speech, and led to the “indoctrination” of children in public schools.
Who sounded like he had sprung from the bowels of bigot America.
But then I decided to find out more about Bradley Miller.
And now I'm even more DISGUSTED.
Well I know it may be hard to believe, but it seems like that old Con favourite, the imaginary War on Christmas, is finally over.
The Fox News nutbar Bill O'Reilly has declared victory. Again.
"I won the 'War on Christmas!'" he said. "I've been doing this for about 10 years and this is the only year we have not had a store that commanded its employees not to say 'Merry Christmas.'"
"It's over, we won," he proclaimed.
And this time he may actually be right.
Lordy. I swear to Godzilla I didn't think it was possible. I really didn't believe you could be a pimp and a Pope at the same time.
And the resident right-wing demagogue of the CBC's flagship news program.
But Rex Murphy has proved me wrong.
It turns out you can be a ghastly oil pimp, and still publish religious tracts like this one.
They had to fight so hard for the right to set up Gay-Straight Alliance clubs in their schools. They had to battle ignorance and religious bigotry.
They were called Nazis, forbidden by their school boards and their principals to use the word gay, or even draw the rainbow colours.
But they never gave up, They just baked the colours into cupcakes. And kept on fighting.
They forced governments to take action. They won battle after battle. There are more and more GSAs all over the country.
And this is their greatest most magnificent victory.
I think I can safely say that in the icy heart of this Harperland winter, just about the last thing I want to think about, talk about, or write about is the Quebec's Secular Charter.
I've written about it before, and no doubt I'll write about it again. But not tonight.
Tonight I'll just say I think it's unnecessary, divisive, and will stir up the bigots in this country like hitting a hornet's nest with a stick does to the flying hordes inside it.
And although I'm an atheist, and a devoted secularist, I hate bullies of any stripe.
And this video sums up exactly how I feel...
It's taken more than half a century of bigotry and prevarication, but the gay computer genius and war hero Alan Turing has finally been pardoned.
Mathematician Alan Turing, who helped Britain win the Second World War by cracking Nazi Germany's "unbreakable" Enigma code, was granted a rare royal pardon on Tuesday for a criminal conviction for homosexuality that led to his suicide.
Justice Minister Chris Grayling said the pardon from Queen Elizabeth would come into effect immediately and was a fitting tribute to "an exceptional man with a brilliant mind."
And all I can say is it's about time eh?
It's a deeply disturbing story. A Toronto Star reporter goes undercover in a Toronto church and discovers a weird group of religious fanatics trying to "heal" gay people.
Telling them there is no such thing as a gay person. God didn't make any.Telling them it's their fault or their parent's fault. Encouraging this kind of nonsense.
During a lesson titled “The Father Wound,” a participant said his father was absent when his mother was pregnant. After considering the teachings, he realized his dad’s absence may be the root of his gay desires — he longed for male affection even inside the womb. Our leaders encouraged this as truth and thanked God for giving him this insight.
I've been studiously trying to ignore anything that happens in the United States these days.
Because it's summer, the place is a mad house, and if I need crazy I've got Harper eh?
But I couldn't ignore the screams and the tears of joy of millions of gay Americans and their friends today.
Or the sparkly unicorn of this great victory.
I can hardly believe what's been happening in France.
Riot police battling homophobes, religious fanatics, and neo-Nazi groups.
Gay people being attacked over their right to be married.
In the streets of Paris, in the City of Love.
It's hard to imagine a worse horror story.
A young woman is sexually assaulted, and publicly humiliated.
Her school does nothing. A police investigation goes nowhere.
Then she is bullied, and then she kills herself.
Well I see they have been filing into the Vatican getting ready to choose a new Pope.
Dozens of old men in red beanies.
And one in a fedora.
But before they start voting they want to know what is the Vatican HIDING? Who's REALLY pulling the strings?
And of course, knowing them eh? Who is being BLACKMAILED?
He is one of the most grotesque bigots this country has ever seen.
A former male prostitute, drug addict, and violent criminal who claims he found Jesus in jail.
He has gone after gay people, Muslims, and the pro-choice movement in the most disgusting ways imaginable.
In 2008 after Dr Morgentaler received the Order of Canada, he defecated on a copy of the Order, and mailed it to the Governor General.
But today he's just a LOSER.
Well as you know Pope Benny is heading off into the sunset, or into a former convent on the grounds of the Vatican.
Leaving us to wonder whether his pooped mobile is a mere conduit to well deserved obscurity. Or his getaway car.
The Vatican has attacked reports in the Italian media linking Pope Benedict XVI's resignation to the alleged discovery of a network of gay prelates as attempts to influence the cardinals in their choice of a new pontiff.
Glory Hallelujah. I see that Pope Benny has decided to take early retirement.
"After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry," the Pope said.
Leaving us to wonder whether it was his health, his conscience, or something the butler said.
