Well I suppose it was inevitable.

Little Jimbo didn't see it coming. He doesn't know what he's doing. He once worked for Mike Harris the brutish Con Premier who left Ontario a mean and nasty ruin.

So he won't do anything to help the growing army of the unemployed.

What will it take for him to grow a heart.....or a BRAIN?

Gosh. You'd think the nasty little Con came from outer space....



You know...the cruel and incompetent Cons are always bad news for the kind of beautiful Canada we want to build.

But in a time of recession they're DANGEROUS...

Hubble's Glory and My New Space Heroes

The word hero is so misused these days it has practically lost its meaning. But my hall of real heroes now includes the crew of the shuttle Atlantis.

Who were finally able to come home yesterday.



Because they were operating at a higher altitude, they had one chance is 229 of being hit by some of the space junk that rings the planet.



















They had to work under impossible conditions.

Their landing was delayed for three days until they were practically out of food and fuel.

And they did it all just so an aging telescope could bring us more amazing pictures like this one.
















And these.

To remind us of our place in the universe. How small we are. How precious is our little planet.

And how nothing is more important than saving it....from ourselves.

Yup. To the crew of the shuttle Atlantis....

Harper, Quebec, and a Lesson for English Canada

Well I see a new poll has confirmed what everyone in Quebec already knew, the Harper Conservatives are getting their asses kicked.

The Léger poll indicates that the Harper government's support in Quebec remains at only 13 per cent, which could possibly wipe out most of its 10 seats in the province were an election held today.

"This is catastrophic for the Conservatives," said Jean-Marc Léger, president of Léger Marketing. "Poll after poll shows they are losing ground. It will be a tough time for them."

And all over English Canada pundits and bloggers are trying to figure out WHY...like soothsayers groping goat guts.

I think Chantal Hebert gets pretty close to figuring out the real reason.

If there is a common thread to the Conservative predicament in Quebec, it is the pervading sense that Harper's political philosophy runs against the grain of the province.

Pratte alluded to the phenomenon on his blog, noting when Quebecers look at Harper these days, it seems all they see is his ideology.

But as someone who has one foot in French Quebec and the other in English Canada, I think it's even simpler than that.

I believe that the real reason Quebecers hate Stephen Harper's Cons so much is because they consider him "mesquin" or MEAN. He has offended their strong sense of Quebec/Canadian values for a whole bunch of reasons.

From his plan to jail children and his failure to rescue Omar Khadr, to his meanspirited cuts to the arts and the way he tried to turn English Canada against the province during the Coalition Crisis.

And because they have looked into his cold, cruel, dead eyes.

And they don't like what they see...













It's a GUT FEELING.

And those ridiculous attack ads will only reinforce why they hate him so much.

Which explains why many of them are switching over to the Liberals. Not necessarily because they like Michael Ignatieff, but because they know he is the only political leader who can get rid of this creepy monster. And they want that more than they want ANYTHING.

Meanwhile in English Canada....where feelings are sometimes confused with weakness, and meanness is often mistaken for strength... we get this result.

And I can't help feel feeling sometimes that our side just doesn't get it.

Cold arguments may damage the Cons, if the political ignorance of the population, and the Big Lie doesn't blunt their impact.

But gut feeling will KILL them. Especially in a time of recession.

Which is why I've been making these videos...



Because the day more English Canadians have the same gut feeling Quebecers have for Stephen Harper and his cruel and creepy Cons.....will be the day the nightmare finally ends.

Which I guess is the lesson eh?

From the Quebec part of moi to the English Canadian part of me. It's time to get in touch with our FEELINGS people. Oooh la la.

The Sad Story of the Bloater and the Bells

My favourite moment of Brian Mulroney's appearance before the Oliphant Inquiry was when The Bloater launched into the familiar story of how he was a poor carpenter's electrician's son from Baie Comeau etc etc...

And Richard Wolson, the inquiry's Perry Mason, shot back "Oh yeah I'm from North Winnipeg."

Which used to make Baie Comeau look like Beverly Hills.

The look on Mulroney's face? PRICELESS.

But then, of course, that's how all it started eh?

When the rich Americans tied up their luxury yachts in Baie Comeau, the other poor Quebec boys dived for quarters. But Brian sang for them. Just like he sang for Ronald Reagan. Because he wanted to be one of them so much.

And even this Mulroney apologist knows where that led.

Mulroney has his faults, like all of us. He is loyal to his friends who often got him into trouble. He enjoys friends who are rich which he is not. It is difficult to compete with them on a prime minister’s pension.

Oh well. He really should have dived for quarters like the other boys because then he wouldn't have loved rich people so much.

Now I only have only two questions before I try to drive this sad spectacle out of my mind.

Will it hurt the Con brand as much as this guy says it will?

Mulroney's misbehaviour has cost taxpayers millions of dollars for the inquiry into the matter and in legal fees for Mulroney, which we also pay. Mulroney was out of office, just, when he started taking envelopes of cash, but it was still wrong. This is what people in the business world refer to as damage to the brand.

Oh goody.

And when The Bloater said before the inquiry began that he was going to turn up with "BELLS ON."

Did he mean these ?

Telling the Bully Harper Where to Get Off

OMG. I can't believe it. A political leader in this country has finally told the foul bully Stephen Harper where to get off.

"If you mess with me, I will mess with you until I'm done..."

Yes. Yes. Yes. Now them are the fighting words I've been waiting FOREVER to hear.

You know creepy bullies like Harper believe that those who stand for a kinder, gentler more beautiful Canada are WEAK. They believe decency itself is a sign of weakness.

When of course it is the very measure of STRENGTH. And the only thing that counts.

Stephen Harper's ugly brand of bully politics has debased this country and made it a mean, cruel and nasty place.

But when you confront the bullies like Ignatieff did last night, they usually turn and run.... like the COWARDS they are.

Last time Harper's bluff was called he ran to the Governor General and hid under her gown.

Where will he run to now?

Whose gown will he hide under?



















And won't Great Ugly Leader look pretty in blue?

Oh boy. Stephen Harper NOT a Canadian leader. Just a nasty bully and a cowardly nerd.

The decent people of this country are finally saying enough is enough. Just like the great Rad Can anchor Bernard Derome just did.

By accusing Harper of dismembering the CBC for "ideological reasons."

The message couldn't be clearer. We want our beautiful country back. It's time to put our petty political differences aside.

And give the bully the BOOT.....

Harper's Ugly Canada and my New Video

I'm always wondering where I'm going. Now I'm wondering where my beautiful country is going. And whether we're going to the same place.

A friend just told me that Stephen Harper and his Conservatives could stay in power for another YEAR. Because the left is divided. And a lot of MPs need the extra time to qualify for their pensions.

And that saddens me because I honestly believe that every day these horrible Cons are in power, MY Canada dies a little bit more.

Because they have made Canada an ugly mean place, with their foul and alien attack politics of personal destruction. And because Stephen Harper is an authoritarian bully with a CRUEL streak that makes him unfit to govern.

Which is why I made a new video.

To remind everyone who we're dealing with....



You know I'm not really interested in the game of politics. I never though I'd have to worry about that in Canada eh?

I don't belong to any party. Although I do support all the progressive parties and wish they were UNITED.

I wish I could spend more time writing about other dreamier things. But not until Stephen Harper and his Cons are driven from office.

Because I want my decent, strong but gentle, beautiful, and proud Canada back.

When Religion Screws Your Mind

Yesterday I wrote about the terrible abuse of children by the Catholic Church in Ireland.

Today the fallout continued.

Victims of sexual abuse and neglect in Catholic-run schools and orphanages in Ireland swamped counseling services on Thursday after the publication of the harrowing findings of a nine-year investigation.

Details of ritual humiliation, torture and slave labor were splashed across Ireland's newspapers. The Irish Times described the report as "the map of an Irish hell" while the tabloid Irish Daily Mirror's front page simply read "You evil monsters."

And it's all so horrible. Especially this part:

A lawsuit by the Christian Brothers led the commission to drop its original intention to name the abusers and no one will be prosecuted as a result.

But of course the religious abuse of children takes many forms.

Sometimes they screw your body...or drive gay kids to suicide. And sometimes they just screw your MIND.

Or eat it....


Oh. My. Donut. As I've said so many times before, ALL religion is a form of mental illness

If adults want to delude themselves that's OK. But leave the children alone.

Stephen Harper and the Big Torpedo

Of all the bad reviews of Stephen Harper's pathetic anti-Ignatieff ads, I think I like this one the BEST.

In the film The Hunt for Red October, the final showdown involves a torpedo fired by an enemy sub that -- through skilful piloting by the good guys -- ultimately locks onto and destroys the vessel that launched it.

Before they armed the warheads and hit the "Fire" button on their latest attack ads, Stephen Harper's Tories might have been wise to sit through a special screening.

But of course they didn't. So the big torpedo pulled a u-turn and flew up Great Das Leader's gaping booty. KABOOM !!!

Instead of fixing a negative, disparaging storyline to the new Liberal leader, the Tories may succeed only in reinforcing a damaging narrative about themselves -- as angry, slightly mean-spirited, defensive folks who believe the way to voters' hearts is to call other people names.

OMG. I mean DIVE DIVE !!!! It doesn't get any better than this. Somebody in the stinky PMO sardine can is going to pay for impaling Captain Nasty on his own petard , torpedo , attack ad.

Because it's cost the Cons an early election.

It almost certainly means the ads have backfired. And they're running like COWARDS.

Which reminds me.... the other night I took aim at Stephen Taylor for trying to defend the creepy cowardly Con ad campaign.

And for running a tacky video of Keyboard Cat playing out Ruby Dhalla.

When EVERYONE knows that the Kat plays for our side.....



Now all I can think of is BAD STUFF HAPPENS.

Catholic Child Abuse Scandal hits Ireland

For years the Catholic Church in Ireland has held that country in an icy grip.

Gay people have been treated like second class citizens. And women even worse.

Ireland’s abortion laws are among the most restrictive in Europe – amongst the most restrictive of all developed nations. Under Irish law a woman can risk life imprisonment for pursuing an elective abortion within the State, unless the pregnancy risks the mother’s life, or she is suicidal as a result of it.

So why am I not surprised by this horror?

The five-volume study concluded that church officials encouraged ritual beatings and consistently shielded their orders' paedophiles from arrest amid a "culture of self-serving secrecy".

It also found that government inspectors failed to stop the chronic beatings, rapes and humiliation.

Just sickened. The poor little children.

Punish every last one of these cruel bully monsters. And every government inspector who looked the other way.

Don't let them get away with it.

Make abortion legal TOMORROW.

Keep these religious perverts away from kids....

Dr Strangelove and the Human Rights Commission

Imagine if the love of your life was dying in a hospital bed. But you weren't allowed to say goodbye. So your lover died alone wondering where you were.

Even though you were just outside the room.

How would you feel for the rest of your life?

Which is why this story haunts me.

But then I wouldn't have to because in Canada we have a Human Rights Commission that keeps bigots from firing people, or not renting apartments to them, or discriminating in other ways just because of who they are.

And helps keep Canada a civilized country, and women and minorities safe from the haters.

Which is why I was not surprised to see the uber neocon Tom Flanagan calling for it to be scrapped.

...we should remember that the existence of the commissions is itself an abuse. They have little to do with genuine human rights such as freedom of speech and worship, security of the person and ownership of property. They are specialized agencies to enforce anti-discrimination legislation, and issues of prejudice and discrimination are far too complex to be resolved by human-rights sloganeering.

But then he would.
