A wonderful thing may be about to happen in Ireland in just a few days. Millions of people are preparing to take on the power of the Catholic Church, and some of the nastiest bigots you can imagine. And make that country the first in the world to vote to approve same-sex marriage.
I did have such high hopes for him. He did seem to be the best Pope I have ever seen. He did say some great things about capitalism and climate change. But it turns out Pope Francis is not as good as I thought. Just more of the same. Or just another old reactionary.
Gay-Straight Alliances are wonderful student groups that promote tolerance and safer schools.
You can find them in schools right across Canada. The Ontario government and many educators think they are a useful tool for fighting bullying and teen suicides.
But the Halton Catholic District School Board has banned them, because in the words of its Chair, Alice Anne LeMay:
“We don’t have Nazi groups either... Gay-Straight Alliances are banned because they are not within the teachings of the Catholic Church."
Can you believe that? Comparing decent gay and straight kids to Nazi scum. What an ignorant woman. What a hideous bigot.
But then what do you expect eh?
When the leader of her ghastly cult once belonged to a Nazi club himself...
And now presides over a church wallowing in the filth of child abuse and homophobia.
The bottom line: if Catholic School Boards aren't prepared to make schools safer for ALL children, they should get out of the school business.
I see the Vatican's latest attempt to portray Pope Benny and his Catholic hierarchy as victims rather than enablers has backfired disastrously.
"They're sitting in the papal palace, they're experiencing a little discomfort, and they're going to compare themselves to being rounded up or lined up and sent in cattle cars to Auschwitz? I mean really. How could they? When the Pope was in the Hitler Youth, and the Catholic Church persecuted Jews for CENTURIES. And do these hideous old men in dresses really think they can get away with crimes like this one?
Top Vatican officials — including the future Pope Benedict XVI — did not defrock a priest who molested as many as 200 deaf boys, even though several American bishops repeatedly warned them that failure to act on the matter could embarrass the church, according to church files newly unearthed as part of a lawsuit. Oh boy. I wish I could enjoy what's happening to Pope Benny and his acomplices. But to be honest I can't. I feel sorry for decent Catholics. And the whole story is too sordid and horrible. I just wish the media coverage would include a mention of Pope Benny's war on gay people. And the way him and his bishops made an oppressed minority appear like the biggest problem in the world.
Because that should have acted as a warning.A warning that these hideous old men were perverting their own religion, and had lost their moral compass. Now that's obvious. And we should be horrified. But if homophobia wasn't so popular, more people would have seen it coming...
I've often wondered how the old boys club that runs the Catholic Church presumes to lecture gay people, or anyone else for that matter, about matters of morality. After all the abuse.All the cover-ups and all the lies. But that was until I learned that they have deluded themselves into thinking that they can lie without lying.
“John calls to the parish priest to make a complaint about the behaviour of one of his curates. The parish priest sees him coming but does not want to see him because he considers John to be a troublemaker. He sends another of his curates to answer the door. John asks the curate if the parish priest is in. The curate replies that he is not.”
The commission added: “This is clearly untrue but in the Church’s view it is not a lie because, when the curate told John that the parish priest was not in, he mentally reserved the words '…to you’.” Oh boy. That's good one eh? Remind me to use that one the next time Sébastien asks who ate the last ice cream bar in the freezer. ---Gee Sebby I have no idea...I mean I don't DARE to remember. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was Angus. ----But Angus wasn't here. ----You mean you didn't see him? ----Right. ----Oh well that's it eh? If you didn't catch me in the act how do you know it wasn't HIM? Huh? Whack. Seriously though a couple of things come to mind. The next time you want to complain to a priest, and his flunky opens the door, ask him if the priest is in....THE HOUSE. Because it's harder to mentally reserve that one. And two... how dare these miserable old lying hypocrites go after the gay community? Seriously, I refuse to hear lectures on wholesome values and the meaning of family from anyone affiliated with a church that engaged in such shocking and outrageous behavior. The Catholic Church has, indeed, lost its right to discuss such issues and expect thinking people to keep a straight face.
Just to reiterate, the Bishop's and Archbishop's have zero credibility to even discuss my healthy relationship. At least my boyfriend isn't an altar boy.
Because mental reservation is nothing more than moral illness.

In Ireland gays and lesbians are fighting for the right to get married. And the Catholic Church is attacking them as usual. The leader of Ireland's Catholics has criticised civil partnership legislation in the Republic of Ireland. Dr Brady said marriage between a man and a woman would always remain the ideal environment in which to raise children.
Because you know the Catholic Church in Ireland knows what's good for EVERYONE .....and how to treat children.. So a group called Marriage Equality that was inspired by the legal struggle of two lesbians who got married in Canada. Is fighting back by releasing this cute video...
It's cute but also depressing. Because when you think about it that's what gay people have been doing for years. Asking others for their permission to love each other. Forced to beg for things that others take for granted. O boy. That little thing called love.
First they terrorized the poor children they were supposed to be looking after...beating, raping and humiliating them. Then they covered up the truth, and didn't punish the guilty. Or get the cops to arrest the bishops. I guess that just games imitating life eh? Luckily in the real world it's never too late for justice. Pawn the Pope's bling if necessary. But make the bastards PAY...
For years the Catholic Church in Ireland has held that country in an icy grip. Gay people have been treated like second class citizens. And women even worse. Ireland’s abortion laws are among the most restrictive in Europe – amongst the most restrictive of all developed nations. Under Irish law a woman can risk life imprisonment for pursuing an elective abortion within the State, unless the pregnancy risks the mother’s life, or she is suicidal as a result of it. So why am I not surprised by this horror? The five-volume study concluded that church officials encouraged ritual beatings and consistently shielded their orders' paedophiles from arrest amid a "culture of self-serving secrecy".
It also found that government inspectors failed to stop the chronic beatings, rapes and humiliation.
Just sickened. The poor little children. Punish every last one of these cruel bully monsters. And every government inspector who looked the other way. Don't let them get away with it. Make abortion legal TOMORROW. Keep these religious perverts away from kids....
