Michael Ignatieff and the Boy Scouts

When I was a boy I thought that being a Boy Scout was a good thing.

When I was older I was proud when other nations called us Boy Scouts. Because we were the decent mediators and peacekeepers of the world.

When I grew up I came to understand that the war in Afghanistan was a tragic mistake.

So what the hell was Michael Ignatieff talking about today?

A Jack Layton government would be a mistake, he said, especially on a file like Afghanistan, where the NDP has demanded Canadian troops be pulled out immediately.

"Come on, folks, let's be serious," Ignatieff said in Vancouver Tuesday.

"We've got to choose a government on the 2nd of May; we can't choose a bunch of boy scouts on this issue."

And why ? When he has almost no political experience, was a poor opposition leader, who let Harper climb all over him.

And if he wasn't such a fussy chickenhawk, he wouldn't have wrecked his chances in Quebec by supporting the war. And Canadian troops wouldn't still be dying in Afghanistan for NOTHING.

You know it's ironic eh? The man whose hopes were strangled by the foul Con attack machine, is going out trying to smother the hopes of so many other progressive Canadians with his own attack ads.

When he should just be hammering the Cons and selling his own party platform. Because he could be soon working with Layton in a coalition government.

And one day the Liberals and the NDP may merge to form a new party that will drive the Cons from power FOREVER. As this Liberal Senator suggests.

Oh well. Vote for who you must. But I'm tired of the same old, same old, and I'm voting for hope.

I'm never been a political partisan. I was too wild and rebellious to be a good Boy Scout. And after the election I shall go back to marching to the sound of my own drum.

But right now I'm taking a chance for REAL change.

Joining the Orange Revolution.

And imagining a different kind of leader...

My Debate Questions for Stephen Harper

Like most decent Canadians I have high hopes for Tuesday's debate.

Because either Stephen " Goliath" "GODzilla" Harper loses his head or his marbles, at the mighty hand of The Great Canadian Coalition, or we lose our country.

And in that regard I think Bruce Anderson has some excellent advice for  Michael Ignatieff.

Find ways to illustrate how different you are from Mr. Harper as a human being. For example, when you show a willingness to wade happily into the fray of politics, while arguing that Mr. Harper seems to be fleeing or dodging scrutiny in every way possible, this contrast is effective for you. It borrows from and builds on things that have concerned some voters about Mr. Harper for a while.

But of course I have some questions of my own eh?

(1) When he claims he doesn't want to murder medicare, how can we trust him? When he spent years heading an organization that was founded to KILL IT?

(2) When he says he won't ban abortion, how can we trust him, when he lies all the time? And he has attacked women's rights from the FIRST day he came to power. Does he hate women or is it because his wacko church tells him they should be SUBORDINATE?

(3) When he says he won't kill gay marriage, how could even his pet stooge John Baird believe him? When he has voted against every gay rights bill, believes that gays CHOOSE to be gay. And didn't even support legislation to make attacking them a HATE CRIME.

Because the voices in his head tell him that if gays and lesbians chose to be straight, they wouldn't be beaten or MURDERED.

(4) When he accuses the opposition of flooding the country with 200 desperate men, women, and children on a leaky boat....

How does he explain that he brought in 300,000 immigrants in 2010. More than any other government in FIFTY years....and is encouraging them to vote "THEIR VALUES?" What's wrong with our CANADIAN values eh? Why does he hate Canada so much? Shame on him !!!!

(5) When he makes those perverted attack ads, do they come from his diseased mind, his filthy pie hole, his smelly bully hole...or just from Ugly Amerika? And with the long and tragic history of mental illness in his family, has he ever thought of seeking treatment?

And while we're talking about holes.... we should probably ask him about this gaping orifice. And since he can't explain it does that mean he plans to kill the CBC, the NFB, and our social programs in three DAYS... instead of waiting for three weeks?

(6) Why does he like men with hookers so much? Just how INTIMATE was he with Bruce Carson? Did he ever meet his hooker hookers? Why does his twitter page link to a porn site? And didn't him and the horny goat realize that they might be caught in the act, and BLACKMAILED by a foreign government?

Oh boy. That's enough. I can't continue. Just asking Great Porno Leader questions makes me want to take a shower. And besides my mum warned me to stay away from dirty old men who creep your Facebook page, or stand in the shadows whispering "Pssssst kid...can I buy you a drink or a fake lake, and show you my shiny MAJORITY?"

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH !!!!

But you get the idea eh? The opposition doesn't have to bring down the monster with one well aimed stone or question. Like David brought down Goliath.

They should just remember that more than forty percent of Canadians don't TRUST Stephen Harper. Plant a seed of doubt in the population.

And we'll make sure it GROWS...

Yikes. Would you trust a potty carnivorous Con with a majority?

Don't worry. When we've finished with him NOBODY will.

Woohoo !!! Gimme a roto-rooter !!!!!!!

Who knew an election could be such FUN?

Harper's Theocons and Ignatieff's Blunder

I see that Stephen Harper is taking his days off on Saturdays, instead of Sundays as he did in previous campaigns.

So he can play Big Daddy.

Harper's decision to take a day off campaigning and be there for his son impressed the other attendees. "We thought he was here for sure when we saw the vans circling and the TV trucks outside," said parent Rick Adams. "It's amazing that he is able to take the time and come and see his son."

Vomit.

And try to make Canadians forget the theocon conspiracy in the heart of his sinister government. Or that he gets his marching orders from the Great Mamoona.

But why did Michael Ignatieff play the Dark Lord's game, by praising this nonsense?

Dividing his party.

Liberal MP David McGuinty also criticized the move and said Canada already has a safeguard for religious freedom. “We have a document in this country that does that; it's called the Charter of Rights.”

Instead of using the occasion to ask Jason Kenney and company why, if they are so interested in protecting religious groups, did they so savagely attack KAIROS?

And if we are going to spend millions on an Office for Religious Freedoms, or in Con code an office to defend Mamoona's people from the evil Muslims.

Could we also spare a few miserable dollars to protect bullied children in this country FROM religion?

Fresh on the heels of a neighbouring GTA school board’s decision to ban gay-straight alliances, a group of Mississauga teens were also barred from launching a gay-straight alliance (GSA) at their Catholic high school.

In neighbouring Halton Catholic District School Board, chairwoman Alice LeMay came under fire recently when she told Xtra! the board “doesn’t allow Nazi groups either.

Because homophobia is a huge and growing problem in Canada. Just check out this tape of two Toronto Raptors players innocently holding hands after winning a big game.

It attracted so many rabid homophobes the comments had to be disabled.

And since they came to power not only have the Cons have done nothing to fight homophobia or bullying, they have actively encouraged it by treating more than a million Canadians as second-class citizens.

But we're more worried about the plight of the religious in other countries?

Oh boy. You know my motives are pure. I support all the progressive parties. I have no axe to grind. I put my country before any party. And all I ask is that we work together to destroy the Harper Cons.

But about two or three days a year, I give up. And tonight is one of them.

All I have the strength to say is that if the way women and gay people have been treated by the Cons isn't part of this campaign, wake me when it's over.

If we don't hit the Cons harder than that, we won't win.

And if anyone still doesn't get that.

Hit them with the HARPedo of Truth...

They say laughter is the best medicine. I hope so eh?

Pray for this poor lost country. And our bullied children.

See you when I see you...

The Moral Depravity of Stephen Harper

I always knew he was a foul bully, who likes to see fear in the eyes of others, and it disgusted me.

I always knew he is a liar, who would say say or do ANYTHING for a majority. Including claim that he could slash the deficit, without raising taxes, without attacking the rights of women, without killing the CBC, and without slowly strangling medicare.

Ignatieff also used the health care announcement to attack his Conservative rival, asking how Stephen Harper planned to maintain health care funding while spending tax dollars on "jets, jails and corporate tax breaks."

"Mr. Harper has not put a dime, not a cent, of new money into Canadian public health care since that (2004) accord," Ignatieff said.

Like his fellow RepubliCons in the United States are trying to do. With their outrageous assault on the poor, seniors, PBS, environmental groups, and organizations like Planned  Parenthood.

The same targets Stephen Harper has gone after like a rabid hyena even before he went into politics.

Earlier in the day, Ignatieff released an "open letter" that challenged Harper to clearly explain his plans for Canada's health care system.

Ignatieff was referencing comments that Harper once made as the head of the National Citizen's Coalition more than a decade ago. As head of the group, Harper once advocated scrapping the Canada Health Act.

I'm so happy that Michael Ignatieff and Jack Layton are fighting to save medicare. But who will save us from this moral depravity?

A former adviser to the Prime Minister, now under scrutiny by the RCMP, bought a downtown Ottawa condominium with a former prostitute who was convicted of numerous offences in the United States, including money laundering, public records show.

To paying customers in cities such as Charlotte and Raleigh, Ms. Khan was known as “Essa,” one of seven people that operated the service, which charged as much as $3,000 per night. The prostitution ring, which went by names such as Intimate Encounters and Sugar Shack, provided prostitutes to men in houses and hotel rooms until it was brought down by a local sheriff’s office and federal authorities in the early 2000s.

Is it true that when Stephen and Bruce worked together they were so close they gave each other neck massages? Didn't they realize Carson could be blackmailed by foreign intelligence agencies? Even as he ran the Afghanistan file.

Don't those sleazy Cons give a damn about the safety of our troops, and the military secrets of our allies?

What the hell does this mean?

And how do you think she feels?

Oh boy. You know the other day I was speaking to my Mum who lives in Scotland, and I told her I wish Harper would hold a rally near me, so I could take some pictures, and make a video of him walking backwards. In the same direction he's taken Canada.

And she said Simon don't you DARE go anywhere near that awful man, because he could hurt you or corrupt you.

And I didn't dare tell her that he is planning to exterminate the rights of gay people, because I didn't want to frighten her. I didn't have the heart to say that he has corrupted our country, because I was too ashamed.

Oh Great Polar Bear God of the Great White North.

Thank you for bringing us Spring...

Now please, please, please, help the decent people of this land defeat this depraved dictator.

And make Canada clean again...

Which Issue Can Hurt the Cons the Most?

The one Jack Layton was talking about today.

And the one Michael Ignatieff should also be talking about. But isn't.

Polls show that health care is competing neck-and-neck with jobs and the economy as Canadians’ most pressing public-policy concern.

And conveniently for the Liberal Leader, Stephen Harper’s Conservatives appear to want very little to do with the issue, having spent most of their time in office avoiding it.

Because there is no more important issue. The buzzards are already circling.

More controversially, in his comments at the C.D. Howe luncheon attended by institute members and key figures in Canada’s health-care community, Mr. Dodge also mentioned the unmentionables of health care. These options include imposing some form of co-payment by individuals for the health- care services that are currently paid by the provinces. Another would de-list services that would then have to be paid by consumers or private insurance suppliers.

A final option would be “development of a privately funded system to provide better quality care for those willing to pay for it.”

And there is no better weapon with which to clobber the Cons.

For one thing Stephen Harper spent YEARS trying to privatize it or destroy it.

And now it's fair to ask him is he a Canadian or a teabagger?

After months of sparring with the Obama administration, Republicans in Congress pitched a budget-slashing scheme this week that relies heavily on deep cuts to two sacred cows of the U.S. welfare state – Medicare for the elderly and Medicaid for the poor.

Because those Republican swine are proposing to cut taxes, and destroy medicare.

And could anyone trust a man with a record like Harper has, not to do the same?

I don't think so. I think we can use this issue to DESTROY him.

Oh yeah. One more thing. When those circling buzzards claim we can't afford medicare, tell them to buzz off. Or fly back to Amerika.

Because this is Canada eh? And we can. EASILY.

If we can keep the Cons from wasting billions on fancy jets and mega prisons. Or get our priorities right.

Medicare is our sacred trust and our mightiest weapon. Michael Ignatieff are you listening?

Use it or lose it...

Chicken Harper and the Mercer Challenge

Holy St Hubert. Fan me with a feather. I see Stephen Harper is taking the day off.

And who can blame him eh? After spending the first week screaming squawking " The Coalition is coming. Gimme my MAJORITY !!!!"

Only to lay this egg.

A new Ipsos Reid poll conducted for Global National and Postmedia News indicates the majority of Canadians would prefer to see a Liberal-NDP coalition government (54 per cent) than a Conservative majority government (46 per cent).

And after challenging Ignatieff to a cock fight, only to turn tail and run. I bet you he's losing a few more feathers over this one.

Because a bully is a bully, and always a COWARD.

Golly. I'm liking the way this election campaign is going sooooooo much.

It's making me hungry eh?

Mmmmmmm...TASTY.

Now can we call him Great Chicken Leader?

Hey !!!! Save me a right wing.

Muahahahaha...

Is Stephen Harper Cracking Up?

It sure looks like it. Yesterday the nasty bully challenged Michael Ignatieff to a one-on-one debate.

But less than twenty-four hours later he was running away like a coward. Or a chicken.

And a liar.

Each would invite accusations of cowardice if he backed down. So Harper has tried his best to depict Ignatieff as being the one to back out of a one-on-one debate.

And that's a lie.

Kinsella dumps all over Harper today as a "chicken."

It's worse. In this incident, Harper has shown himself to be cowardly and a liar.

But it gets worse. You should have seen the look on Harper's face when the media confronted him this morning.

I thought I could hear the voices in that thug's head shouting "How DARE they bully us  !#!@#!!!

Yikes. For a moment I thought he was going to start blubbering, and calling for his mummy.

It really makes you wonder doesn't it ? What IS the monster hiding?

Or should that be ...isn't it amazing what a difference a day makes?

The Conservative lead over the Liberals literally shrunk overnight from 10 points to just over six, according to a Nanos Research poll of voting intentions for the Globe and Mail and CTV.

Mummy, mummy, where's mah mah mah mah MAJORITY ????? !!!!!!!

Golly. You know last night, in an inexcusable lapse of taste, which earned me the contempt of my loyal labrador.

And is so unlike me eh?

I suggested that we set this attack lab on him to do...um... unspeakable things to him.

Or stimulate him so much he'd forget to take his medication.

But now that Harper is looking wounded. And Jack Layton and Gilles Duceppe will be joining Ignatieff in ganging up on him.

After much deliberation, and after apologizing profusely to my canine companion.

I think the debate is going to look more like this...

Whoa. Down boys DOWN !!!!!

The liar is cracking up. The bully is on the run.

Mummy mummy where's mah mah mah MAJORITY ??????

Muahahahahaha....

Stephen Harper and the Great Debate

Golly.I'm not sure what to think about a one-on-one debate between Michael Ignatieff and Great Little Leader.

I'm pretty sure Iggy would crush him like a bug. But we're still a parliamentary democracy aren't we? And why should Jack Layton, Gilles Duceppe, and Elizabeth May be deprived of the pleasure of chasing that nasty Con dwarf all over the studio? And stomping him SILLY.

Because Harpie really does need to be taught a lesson eh? Is he fighting Ignatieff or the coalition? And what does he think he's running for? Crime Minister of Canada?

For the second day in a row, the Conservative campaign has lost a volunteer amid controversy.

That frustration led to Prime Minister Stephen Harper's entourage announcing another election policy: for the duration of the campaign, it will no longer be taking questions about the party's 308 local candidates.

Oh boy. Isn't that typical Con behaviour? A new scandal every 22 hours.

And when in trouble deny EVERYTHING.

And invoke Omerta...

And you know Great Mob Leader isn't kidding...

Because he's not only desperate, he's CRAZY.

The good news?

The Americans have noticed that the Harper government has fallen, and they're suitably impressed.

Or NOT.

Oh well. At least they know enough to call it a REGIME eh?

And I know enough not to attack any progressive parties. Because I support them ALL.

Just put the nasty little man in a paper bag.

Mail him back to Alberta.

And whoever gets to attack him, may they attack maul hump him good....

Stephen Harper and the Attack Poodles

If you want to know what Stephen Harper has done to Canada. How his diseased mind has poisoned our beautiful country. All you have to do is watch this video.

And then read what his sleazy PMO attack poodles had to say about it.

Can you believe it? Have you read anything more fevered or disgusting? Or just plain EVIL.

Can't you just see them? Sweating heavily, typing with one hand, wanking off with the other, squeezing a stinky turd onto the carpet, and then rolling in it. While screaming "I'd EAT one for Great Leader !!!!!!!!"

Gawd. I have to agree with Susan Delacourt. These aren't Canadians they're nothing but teabaggers. The nerd traitors in our midst who would turn us into AMERIKA.

All that remains to be determined is whether they are suffering from rabies or SYPHILIS.

But then who came blame them for being so desperate eh? This sordid scandal must be really bothering them.

It's not like Stephen Harper can brag about HIS roots.

And I'm sure that shouting "We're Number Ten !!!!!!!" isn't as good as shouting "Canada's back !!!!!!!" When we're going backwards.

And this must be really devastating.

Because on this issue we can KILL them...

By the time the next campaign is over they'll be calling him (former) President Piñata. Or just Mistah Steve...the former leader of the Con Mafia.

And the BEST news?

The Con poodles can shit on the carpet as much as they like. Because the stench is soooooooooo revealing.

These are the people poodles our parents warned us about.

And when we smell the doo doo.

We know who did it....

Now please...can we send the Con poodles to the pound?

Send the Con criminals to jail, and make our country clean again.

Because this is Canada NOT Amerika.

And enough is ENOUGH...

Michael Ignatieff and Our Angry Canada

I must say I greatly enjoyed the sight today of an angry Michael Ignatieff.

Ignatieff mocked the latest round of Conservative ads, including a spot featuring Harper working late in his office.

The ads, Ignatieff said, offer a contrast between "leadership that listens and leadership that wants to impose an ideology Canadians just aren't comfortable with."

Because it's about time. Progressives in this country are angry, over the way the Cons are stealing our country.

The new conservative way is seen in the manner in which politics is now played in Canada. The permanent campaign mode, the politics of aggression and intimidation employed by Mr. Harper, a Prime Minister who doesn’t know what the high road looks like, has been a staple of the hard right of the Republican Party. We had seen elements of this in Canada, but not to the degree employed by today’s Conservatives. So far, the PM has gotten away with his anti-democratic impulses, the emphasis being on “so far.”

Angry at the way they are perverting our values, and corrupting our youth.

Angry at the way they are turning so many Canadians into greedy beasts, who can be bribed by a $100 cheque every month, into killing a national daycare program.

In cancelling the child-care program upon taking office and replacing it with a $100-a-month payment to parents of young children, Harper was throwing a tasty bone to conservatives who believe a woman’s place is in the home.

Angry at the way our progressive leaders can't seem to reflect that anger, and keep rolling over.

The real story of the past five years isn’t Harper’s success — his poll numbers have hovered below 40 per cent — but the timidity of the opposition in mounting a spirited case for progressive policies that would have sparked wide public support, particularly after the 2008 financial crash exposed the fallacies of neo-conservative tax-cutting and deregulation.

Harper should be getting pummeled for his pro-corporate, anti-people agenda. Instead, he’s strutting about arrogantly accusing his opponents of being disrespectful, even as he heads a government that is the most disrespectful —to the vast majority of Canadians — in our history.

Or fighting each other, while our country BURNS.

Oh boy. It can't be said enough. The next election will be the most important election in Canadian history.

Organize, unite, get ANGRY.

Defeat those bastard Cons...

Stephen Harper and the See Saw Game

Uh oh. It looks like Stephen Harper is courting Jack Layton, like a horny old goat werewolf.

No doubt to try to soften his image, attract more female voters, and pretend he doesn't want an early election. And the NDP appears ready to go along because they really don't want an election.

And apparently, after making it sound like they're hot to trot, neither do the Liberals.

OMG. Pass the gravol. Welcome to the see saw game, doesn't it sound familiar?

But here's the thing eh? Whatever progressive party ends up supporting the budget, will be giving the Harper Cons a lot more than a bunch of economic measures.

By voting for yet another omnibus bill, they will be allowing Harper to change our country beyond recognition...without even needing an election.

A 900-page budget bill changes the country, and a decision to let such a bill pass is a decision to let Harper change the country. Some Liberals yesterday were elated over the game of footsie between Flaherty and the NDP. That means he’s afraid of an election! He’s afraid of Ignatieff! Their internal polls must show it’ll be a slaughterhouse! Victory is ours! Maybe not. Maybe it meant Flaherty wants his budget to pass because it’ll be another 1,000 pages of changing the country, which is what Conservatives are in business to do, and as long as there’s no election they can keep right on doing it.

Great eh? This isn't just convenient collaboration, it's abject SURRENDER.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, until progressives in this country realign their forces, like the Cons did years ago, this nightmare will go on and on.

We can't just wait for the winning conditions. We can't just wait for the Bloc to implode, because that's not going to happen.

We can't just wait for Michael Ignatieff to suddenly become popular.

Or sprout a pair of...um...wings.

We need new ideas, bold visions, and the political courage to carry them out.

We need to drive these ghastly Cons from power by whatever democratic means necessary.

We need to remember that when we are divided we are weak.

But when we are united we are STRONG...

Because until we grasp that simple and increasingly obvious truth, we can play the see saw game all we like.

But we will be going NOWHERE...

Stephen Harper's Outrageous Assault on Parliament

He has shut our Parliament down. He has debased it with his bully boy tactics. And now he is threatening to simply ignore it.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper says he doesn't need the approval of Parliament to deploy nearly 1,000 military trainers to Afghanistan for three years because the mission won't involve combat.

And lying through his teeth.

In a recent interview with Maclean's magazine, retired general Rick Hillier said: "You can come up with all kinds of schemes to hide away in camp and train people for the Afghan army, but they lack credibility.

"If you try to help train and develop the Afghan army … you are going to be in combat."

So why is he doing this? Answer: because he knows the Liberals are divided and he can play them like suckers.

Mr. Harper has been under intense pressure from Canada’s NATO allies, ahead of the alliance’s summit in Lisbon this month, to keep some kind of presence in Afghanistan. This obvious flip-flop should provide a stockpile of ammunition for the Opposition. It would, were it not for the fact that the Liberals have already indicated their support for a continued training mission.

So instead of respecting the supremacy of Parliament, or respecting the wishes of the Canadian people, the Liberals now find themselves siding with Harper and providing him with political cover.

How dumb can you be?

Enough is ENOUGH. If Canadian soldiers are going to spend three more years fighting and dying in Afghanistan, it requires a vote in Parliament. Period

And if Bob Rae thinks that selling his new book Exporting Democracy is more important than defending democracy at home.

“Whether there's a parliamentary resolution is not a matter of law (or even custom) but a choice of the government,” Mr. Rae said. “In the current circumstance I fully understand the government's decision.”

He should resign or complete his tortured political journey by joining the Cons. The shabby old stooge.

And of course, the same thing goes for Ignatieff himself. The blithering idiot.

If we allow Harper to get away with this ultimate gesture of contempt, we will be nothing more than a Banana Republic.

"My position is that if you're going to put troops into combat, into a war situation, I do think for the sake of legitimacy, I do think the government does require the support of Parliament," said Harper

"But when we're talking simply about technical or training missions, I think that is something the executive can do on its own."

With a President or Chief Executive instead of a Prime Minister.

Our troops deserve better. And so does our country.

The stakes have never been higher. If it takes an election to save democracy in Canada.

And put that tinpot dictator in his place.

I say bring it on NOW...

It Gets Better But Not in Harper's Canada

In the United States Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have contributed to Dan Savage's It Gets Better Project.

And now in Canada so has Michael Ignatieff.

And in both official languages too. Good for him.

So now I wonder what are the chances of Stephen Harper recording a similar message?

And the answer is none at all. How could he? When he is the Bully in Chief who along with his Con thugs brought bullying to our Parliament.

And has done nothing to fight homophobia, or protect our most vulnerable citizens, even though we have a crisis in our schools.

Two-thirds of LGBTQ students said they felt unsafe at school. More than half have been verbally harassed about their sexual orientation while 21 per cent have been physically harassed or assaulted. Forty-five per cent of youth with LGBTQ parents have been sexually harassed at school and over a quarter have been physically harassed or assaulted about their parents as well as their own perceived sexual orientation or gender identity because of their parents.

And even after they leave school, gay people are being attacked all over the country, hurt. crippled, and even burned out of their homes.

Instead to appease his bloodthirsty Christianist base he orders his minions to deny funding to any gay organization, and by so doing sends out the crude message that gays and lesbians are second-class citizens. Which only makes a bad situation WORSE.

And if gay people don't like it, they can always become straight. Because Stephen Harper, like the crazy Christianists in the United States, believes they CHOOSE to be gay.

Oh yeah. I'm not holding my breath waiting for that horrible man to do the right and decent thing. Because he depends on bigotry to keep him in power. And is probably hoping that a little homophobia can help get him his precious majority.

So even if Harper did make a It Gets Better Video, I'd probably be so shocked and disgusted I'd vomit. It would be like Dracula doing an ad for the blood bank.

Because he can't fool me, like he fools so many others.

I know where him and his bully Cons are coming from.

And if they ever got a majority, it wouldn't get better for bullied kids.

It would get even WORSE...

The Liberals and the Election Risk

Sooner or later progressives in this country are going to have to come to terms with this cold hard fact: only if Michael Ignatieff wins more seats than Stephen Harper will the Con menace be crushed.

Sooner or later Michael Ignatieff and the Liberals are going to have to swallow this hard truth: even if they do manage to win a narrow majority they will only stay in power if the other opposition parties support them.

And that unless at some point they risk an election, as James Travers points out, they risk losing everything.

This country has a problem. It has a ruling party that twists the truth and an Official Opposition that can’t, or won’t, straighten it out.

One unlikely way to end that impasse is for Stephen Harper to come clean about what he doesn’t like about Canada and how Conservatives are changing it by stealth and increment. Another is for Michael Ignatieff to screw Liberal courage to the sticking point and declare enough is enough.

And that includes losing Canada. And hurting themselves.

No party or leader willingly commits political suicide. Instead, they lurk in the shadows, weighing odds and waiting for a promising moment to strike. Still, parties risk everything when what’s good for them is seen to be more important than what’s good for the country.

Ignatieff knows that Liberals have taken too long to discard the tattered cloak of Canada’s natural governing party. Liberals are proving equally slow in grasping that an opposition afraid to oppose is an empty vessel voters will fill with blame when the ruling party goes too far.

I think that moment has come. The Cons have gone too far. I think the Liberals have to take that risk because only by doing that can they make Canadians understand how high the stakes really are.

I think all the opposition parties should ask voters to support them because they think they have the best candidates for the job. But they should stay away from attacking themselves and concentrate all their fire on the Cons who are destroying our country.

Because how else can you send out a clear message that the Cons are the enemies of Canada?

And they should also make it absolutely clear that when the election is over they will work together to repair the damage and make Canada a country we can be proud of again. I believe that Canadians will understand that message and reward them for it.

How we do this I leave to the professionals who run the opposition parties. But I have no doubt whatsoever that until the day progressives unite, this is the only way to go.

Because I love Canada. The hideous Cons MUST be defeated.

Michael Ignatieff and the Summer Enemy

It was so hot on the lake today it was hard to tell where the fog ended and the smog began.

Back on Lost Boy Island it was even HOTTER.

And all I could think of was why didn't I join the dive club? So I could sit on the bottom of the lake and cool down a bit.

All of which to say if Michael Ignatieff had come around the corner sweating like a pig and said " Hi Simon I want to tell you why I should be the next Prime Minister of Canada."I probably would have fainted.

But luckily sadly it was never going to happen.

Now don't get me wrong eh? I want Iggy to do well. I'm a member of the Anyone But Harper Party. And at this point ANYONE will do.

And I don't believe in magic either.

For the last time: the physical world does not conform itself to journalists’ desire for metaphors! Mechanical breakdowns are not “emblematic” of anything, except to reporters who like to press the facts into pre-defined templates of spurious significance (see: narrative), or who think the universe is governed by magic.

Only Cons and other idiots do.

And I also want to say I think Iggy deserves full marks for sharing my view of Great Ugly Leader.

Speaking to an audience of Liberal supporters at a Stampede breakfast on Saturday the official leader of the Opposition let fly, saying Canadians "can smell the whiff of sulphur" coming off the Conservative PM, a putrid scent most often associated with rotten eggs and — in Christian theology — Satan himself.

Although even the putrid scent of sulphur and rotten eggs can't accurately describe the foul stench that hideous Con emits every time he opens and closes his Satanic orifices.

And I liked this description of The Lord's Republic of Con Canada even better:

"It was a garbage dump on the outskirts of the ancient city of Jerusalem. It was sort of a pit, if you can imagine a naturally formed landfill. And people would take their garbage there and the smell of rotting garbage, it was a horrible, horrible place.

Still I'm glad Iggy is trying to start a real debate about the kind of country we're becoming. Because we really do need to ask ourselves some hard questions.

How did we come to the point where we are governed by a group of men who are as evolved as their theories of creation? How could they so casually and brutally, for the sake of a $1.3 billion photo op, revoke our civil liberties?

How is it possible that so many of us approve of these police actions?

But here's the thing eh? The timing couldn't be worse. You can talk about the G20 gorilla show. You can talk about the stench of Harper's Canada. Or about the Great Satan himself.

But it's the heart of summer in The Great White North so NOBODY is listening.

Of course I'm not giving up. I intend to keep on blogging.

Until the beer runs out.

But here's the only bit of dazzling insight I was able to come up with today eh?

We will beat the tyrant one day, and send him back to the hellish place he came from.

But right now, in The Great White North. Whether you are on a bus, a plane, or a boat.

It's going to be hard to beat SUMMER...
