Will The Cons Replace Andrew Scheer With Stephen Harper?
In my last post I looked at how Stephen Harper is now blaming the Con media for his humiliating loss to Justin Trudeau.
And I had a good laugh, for it sounded so ridiculous.
But I'm not laughing anymore.
Because now a Con in Quebec is comparing Harper to Churchill...
And according to Michael Harris, is suggesting that Harper should return to politics to replace Scheer as interim leader, and then run for Con leader. Again.
“Colleagues:
“Many of us were relieved in April when the Conservative Party postponed the leadership ballot until later in the summer...We should now rethink the process, as well as the timing, of choosing the next leader.
“Canada will need a serious government of national unity lead [sic] by an experienced leader strong enough to stop the bleeding and unite the country in the days to come.”
“Churchill was called out of retirement to take control of a desperate Britain in the autumn of 1939. Sometimes the man seeks the position. Sometimes the position seeks the man. Canadians need to draft Stephen Harper into service again.”
It all sounds pretty dubious to me, and more a measure of Con desperation than anything else.
But we live in strange times. The post pandemic world has no doubt clouded the future of Harper's consulting business, as it has most others.
The International Democrat Union he chairs is becoming harder and harder to run, and even more irrelevant.
So Harper just might welcome a chance to return to Canadian politics, even if he is no Churchill. And Canadians aren't exactly ready to welcome him with open arms:
However, speaking for myself I do hope Harper returns to the political arena.
For if watching him go down the first time was one of the greatest pleasures of my life.
I'm sure the next time will be even better...

Did you even read Harris' article before you smeared him?
We never got to flush twice, go for it DeaR lEAder.
So Trudeau is Hitler? This is beyond ridiculous.
I wouldn't put it past Harper to try to regain his old job. His post political career isn't going very well, and it must be killing him to see the party he has always considered his heading for near extinction. He probably thinks he can save it, the poor old fool.
.. One thing Harper never had.. was 'real courage'. Game it out Simon.. look at the upside and downside from the opaque Harper 'lens'. He always was - a too smart manipulative prick. Try to imagine him coming from the shrubbery or septic tank when the shit is hitting the fan. Upside ? He wins the shit sandwich that Trudeau is handling.. the Downside ? The shit sandwich eats him whole. He's totally comfy gaming Canada & Mainstream Media with his 'littl bo peep' 'trained economist' - steady hand on his weenie 'legacy' and pimping his sniggering 'superiority' while enjoying his millions
Folks often critique me for Harper Derangement Syndrome (they have no idea.. its in my bones like Strontium - 90) I would welcome the loathsome prick staggering out into public view.. and he can drag his scumbag disciples out with him.. Times have changed.. and he's welcome to come piss into the wind
Bring back Jean Chretien! :)
There was no smear involved, Simon just accurately stated that the Harris article reported on the trial Harper balloon floated by a Quebec Con. The Harris article is actually quite astute and outlines the current Con/Trump strategy of downplaying the severity of Covid 19 and the framing of Trudeau/Democrats as overreacting which resulted in the destruction of the economy. It is totally unscientific, ignores the facts but is a simple minded story that Cons will believe if wave 2 has moderate impact. At present they are just skirting the edges and walking both sides of the street so if wave 2 is devastating they can call Trudeau a failure "to protect" and ride that horse instead. For the Cons its a win/win ploy regardless of how many people they kill by currently using the Con media to downplay the severity of the virus. They will decide whether its the "Trudeau killed both Canadians and the economy" or " overreacted and killed the economy with debt" later in the fall once the severity of wave 2 is better known. We are slowly moving back into the detached virtual reality world where Cons thrive.

Well we can remember Churchill's 1945 election results---first Labour majority which led to the NHS among other things.
Personally, I am rooting for McKay but Harper might be bad though he does seem less prone to making an ass of himself.
What I wouldn't give to see the two of them in a Shawinigan boxing match. Trudeau and Brazeau can do the color commentary, and Ezra can be the one who gets hauled away in an ambulance this time... wearing a straitjacket. 😈
The post pandemic world has no doubt clouded the future of Harper's consulting business, as it has most others. The International Democrat Union he chairs is becoming harder and harder to run, and even more irrelevant.
Bibi is headed to trial, Bolsonaro's foul-mouthed tantrum and deliberately abysmal Covid response has him facing a caucus revolt and possible impeachment, and barring some October Surprise or other unforseen fluke Trump is toast come November. Orbán and Modi are unfortunately still kicking around but Harper's flashy fash club really doesn't have a good track record as of late. Womp womp, it couldn't happen to a nicer group of assholes. Get lost Steve, nobody likes you but I'm sure Trudeau would thoroughly enjoy kicking your sorry ass to the curb a second time.
LOL I thought the Cons had all decided he was Fidel Castro Jr. 🤣
Hi Mound...What on earth are you talking about? Who am I smearing? Harper? Scheer? Harris? Some mythical creature in your head? Are you losing your marbles again? As I told you about two weeks ago your hatred for me is more than matched by my contempt for you. Please seek help as soon as you can, and stay away from me you dirty old thing....
can I close this thread with something we can all agree FUCK HARPER
I thought they would use Sir John A. As an example, who was defeated then came back and won
Hi RT....Thanks for summarizing Harris' article for the crazy old Mound. It's like many of the comments he sends out late at night, it sounds like he is drunk and writing in his underpants, or worse. And thanks for summing up my post as well. I have no idea whether Harris is taking a gossamer thread and trying to spin it into a blanket, but in the times we live in, and with Harper distraught at the impending destruction of his party, I merely said that anything is possible. The poor old Mound who has voted for the Cons many times is clearly nostalgic for the Harper years and it's truly pathetic....
Hi Steve....I would flush that toilet four or five times just to celebrate the final defeat of the Harper beast. And while I don't think it will get to that, it's important to remember that Harper is still a big wheel in the Con party, and can still do this country a lot of damage...l
Hi lagatta...The corridors of the Con Internet are wall papered with representations of Justin Trudeau as a Nazi. Many of them are also misogynistic and homophobic and are as disgusting as I have ever seen The far right is growing in dark places and will have to be confronted, or we will end up living in a fascist nightmare.....
Hi anon....as I said in my post, I don't know whether it's just the riding president trying to get a ball rolling, or whether that petition is part of a bigger scheme to bring back Harper. Only time will tell....
Hi salamander....As I said, I don't know what Harper is after, but he is up to something. I don't believe he is just willing to look on as his party goes down the tube. So I think he wants to get back in charge as opposition leader, so he can go after Trudeau again at a time when returning the economy to an even keel will mean taking some unpopular measures. I still think it's crazy, but then so is Harper....
Hi Jackie..yes the Cons have been reviving tha Castro is Justin's father fake story, as only the could. It's truly disgusting, but their heads must be full of excrement so I can't say I'm surprised. We're all fighting for the restoration of decency, and we couldn't have a nobler cause....
Hi ottlib....I must say I sometimes wish it was Chrétien who was facing up against Scheer and his ugly Cons. For while Trudeau is unfailingly polite, like a good Canadian should be, Chrétien would tell Scheer exactly what he thinks of him. And failing that hopefully show him the Shawinigan grip....😉
Hi jrkrideau....Yes, that first Labour majority did some great things, although I always felt a little sorry for Churchill, to be treated like that after steering Britain through the war. As for the Con leadership race, I believe that Mackay would be better than O'Toole who has sold himself out to far right religious bigots. But I really don't care as long as the Con candidate loses....
Hi Jackie....yes when you look at the big picture the international Con conspiracy is looking really wobbly. Trump, Johnson, Bolsonaro, are all losing feathers and I'm starting to believe that all three of them will be defeated. So despite all the tragic deaths something good might come out of the pandemic, which can only encourage other progressive movements all over the world. When even a pandemic is on our side how can we lose? ☠☠☠
sorry, I know the guy he did that to. A fairly typical community activist; in no way a Nazi.
Remember that he "showed that" against a progressive activist. Not cool. Chrétien was more than a bit of a thug.
No, Chuchill was a reactionary and racist bastard - in that case there was just the fact tht the other guy was many times worse.
Hi Simon... Trump saw the pandemic as a Dem conspiracy right from the start. Rather than face the reality that it was an indiscriminate mindless killer with a transmission sequence that could be disrupted he reshaped it into a Dem/Chinese larger than life villain that he would slay in his hydroxychloroqine fueled reality detached universe. A total disaster for one of the richest, most technically advanced countries in the world. Unfortunately it is likely not the last!

Excellent take here:
"From the wings, Stephen Harper may still control his chastened party, but Canadians have moved on. Power may be enigmatic and mercurial, but you know it's finally over when the laughter is following you out the door."
