Has Donald Trump Gone Stark Raving Mad?

We've always known that Donald Trump is a virulent racist, and that strange and dirty things swirl around in his head.

And in the last few days he has been teetering on the edge of the abyss, with his tweets becoming more and bizarre.

Or more and more deranged,

But now he has finally exceeded the last bounds of sanity and decency.

And is being accused of going stark raving mad.

After he fired off another volley of tweets that left much of the world reeling with disgust.

President Trump touched off another racially charged furor on Wednesday by sharing videos from a fringe British ultranationalist group purportedly showing Muslims committing acts of violence, a move that was swiftly condemned by Britain’s prime minister as well as politicians across the spectrum.

The videos Mr. Trump retweeted were titled: “Muslim migrant beats up Dutch boy on crutches!” “Muslim Destroys a Statue of Virgin Mary!” and “Islamist mob pushes teenage boy off roof and beats him to death!” But the assailant in one of them was not a “Muslim migrant” and the other two showed four-year-old events with no explanation.

It had some like CNN's Chris Cillizza wondering whether Trump was losing control.

Trump is someone who prides himself on a sort of everywhere-all-at-once approach to governance. He throws lots and lots of things at the wall every day --through tweets, public statements and policy maneuvers. He has, from the start of his political career, reveled in thumbing his nose at conventional wisdom and political correctness. He is a provocateur by nature; he likes to get reaction, he likes to freak out the squares.

And yet, in the last few days Trump feels even more unmoored than usual. More erratic. More wild.

"Something is unleashed with him lately," Times reporter Maggie Haberman said on CNN Wednesday morning. "I don't know what is causing it, I don't know how to describe it."

It had the New York Daily News delivering this blunt verdict.

After his latest spasm of deranged tweets, only those completely under his spell can deny what growing numbers of Americans have long suspected: The President of the United States is profoundly unstable. He is mad. He is, by any honest layman’s definition, mentally unwell and viciously lashing out.

And had even his good buddy Piers Morgan throwing up his hands in despair.

Even as British cartoonists had a field day portraying Trump and the leaders of Britain First...

And suggesting that the Orange Oaf now has turds for brains.

But of course the big question is this: is Trump suffering from the first symptoms of dementia?

Or has he contracted a possibly fatal case of Muelleritis?

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team has postponed an anticipated grand jury testimony linked to his investigation into Michael Flynn amid growing indications of possible plea deal discussions.

For that could be another sign that his old buddy Michael Flynn is about to start singing like a canary.

Flynn's attorney told Trump's legal team last week that he would no longer share information about the investigation, a move that signals Flynn is beginning conversations with the government that could involve a plea deal or a cooperation agreement.

And if Flynn is threatening to start singing or squealing, or dragging Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner out of the White House and into the Big House.

Jared Kushner has reportedly met with the team of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, which is probing potential connections between the Trump presidential campaign and Russia.

According to CNN, former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was the primary topic of conversation between investigators and Mr Kushner, a top aide to Donald Trump who is also the President’s son-in-law.

Who can blame Trump if he can see the writing on the wall, or feel the handcuffs on his wrists?

And in his bizarrely decorated White House is going a little crazy...

Or a lot crazy.

And one thing is for sure eh?

The more monster he makes himself.

The easier it will be to destroy him...

is Trump suffering from the first symptoms of dementia?

Probably. From some discussions on another blog, it appears that Trump has been showing some early symptoms of dementia at least since the beginning of the election campaign in terms of his verbal behaviour. The condition may be progressing.

He is very likely be suffering a case of Muelleritis though given a gutless Republican US senate it may or may not be fatal. Given the morass of his financial dealings, particularly with the former republics of the Soviet Union, he is in a state of panic. Once Mueller made it clear that he was investigating Trump's financial dealings and not just the alleged Russian interference in the election Trump was pretty much on way to being roadkill.

Of course, if the USA does something totally stupid like actually attacking North Korea, then all bets are off. The problem is that we have a erratic unstable regime facing off against a not overwhelming stable North Korea so I do not like the look of things. I am reminded of the US hysteria before the Iraq invasion. And, I just stumbled over a comment by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov saying, ““The latest US action seemed to be directed towards provoking Pyongyang into taking some rash action”. https://www.rt.com/news/411394-us-provoked-nkorea-lavrov/

On the bright side at least the Americans can have a white Christmas.

Well, this seals it. The POSOTUS is by no means going to be invited to Harry and Meghan's wedding. Undoubtedly he'll pull some stunt to draw attention away from or otherwise spoil their happy day because he can't stand the notion that anyone, anywhere, might be giving attention to someone besides himself.

In a related story, we know that the boys hate Trump for his stalking of Diana. But the Matt Lauer revelations from yesterday bring up a question in this writer's mind. Speaking of hacks who should have no right to call themselves "journalists" (like Cilizza and Haberman, who apparently intend to prove the broken-cuckoo-clock statement correct at least once a fiscal year) and perverts like Lauer and Charlie Rose whose M.O. involves grabbing a lot more than headlines... Geraldo Rivera, the tabloid sensationalist with a Snidely Whiplash mustache who seems to have permanently misplaced his integrity and decency in Al Capone's safe, and clearly seems to have no problem with women being tied up to railroad tracks (or at least locked in the dressing rooms of predatory and powerful men), actually defended Lauer's depraved actions by calling into question whether a "witch hunt" was going to "criminalize flirting."

Now, we also know Geraldo is already on record as having gone to bat for "his buddy" Trump, who he goes way back with to their infamous wild days at Studio 54. Well, in response to Mr. Mustache putting his foot in his mouth yet again (minus a chair to the nose this time), a video surfaced this week of the singer and actress Bette Midler giving an interview in 1991 when Geraldo's tell-all memoir was released, wherein she accuses him of groping her in the bathroom of the famous discotheque. Geraldo, of course, has no shame, and back in 2015, his first response to Justin Trudeau's election victory wasn't congratulations to the new young world leader, but an idiotic and unsettling troll comment of "Hey Justin, I f--- yer mum" on Twitter.

Donald, meanwhile, had previously written (and probably lied or exaggerated, as he is known to do) in his own memoirs about an alleged encounter with a "Mrs. X" in New York who he claimed "was the wife of a well-known prime minister." So now I wonder, knowing that both these men are so depraved and forceful, and will stop at nothing to get what they want... what did Donald and/or Geraldo do to poor Maggie Trudeau that they obviously intended to do to Diana and Bette?

Simon, as you said, the man is an absolute stark-raving menace. He is not the only one, though; obviously the worst of them, since Matt Lauer and Geraldo Rivera don't have access to the nuclear codes. But this kind of behavior isn't confined to the Oval Office or the newsroom. There are now more than two dozen women coming out to accuse Donald Trump of sexual harassment and/or outright assault, including two Jane Doe's who say they were sex-trafficked and made to "perform" for him at about 12 years old.

A lot of skeletons are falling out of a lot of people's closets. I feel the utmost sympathy for these women and for their loved ones. There are nights when I just can't take it anymore, and so I drift off to sleep picturing Donald and a number of his "golfing buddies" being invited to a "state dinner" in London -- only to encounter William and Harry alongside Justin and Sacha in Diagon Alley, while the royal guardsmen and the Mounties have been sent away on "coffee break" (or covfefee break). "This is for mum, you wanker/hoser! Grab 'em by the bqwhatever!"

After reading your post and then reading that Rex Tillerson could be fired as Secretary of State I'm frankly terrified. Tillerson was one of the only people who could restrain Trump most of the time, and kept urging a negotiated solution to the North Korea crisis, so it seems clear to me that the madman is planning to go to war. Mueller really is our only hope.

Surely you mean an orange Christmas? Or judging from that shot of the White House a satanic one?

How low can he go? I've given up guessing Simon as it's a seemingly bottomless pit of utter shame. This classless, dangerous, lunatic of a president needs to be removed by any and all means ASAP.
Law abiding muslims will get hurt and possibly killed because of this insane re-tweet and their blood will be on Trump's hands as well as the ones already affected by his hatred of anything off-white.
It's time Twitter cut the cord on Donnie Dipshit once and for all. They are equally responsible for allowing him to use their medium to re-tweet this garbage that promotes hate, violence and division.
Meanwhile the GOP does nothing save for a few words of disgust, from a few. What a shameless bunch of assholes they are.
Sane or insane doesn't matter anymore Simon, he has to go.

Is Donald J Trump stark raving mad or his detractors? My money is on the hysterical people foaming at the mouth every time the president tweets something!

A democratic leader tries to be an inclusive leader, Trump divides the citizens along lines of bigotry and hatred and uses this to create support. It is a well established strategy that has been used by dictators for millennium, and appeals to the lowest form of humanity- racists, bullies and people who refuse to look at ways to better themselves for fear of raising others up also.

hi jrkrideau....yes I'm afraid you're right. Not only is Trump in such a poor condition that he could say or do anything. The political situation is so ominous he is quite capable of starting a war to distract Americans from all his dirty dealings. And talk about removing Rex Tillerson is a step in that direction. I only hope that if there is a war, and by chance I manage to survive, that nobody ever asks me why we didn't do more to stop it, because I wouldn't know what to say...

hi anon 1:27 pm... I can hardly believe the state of the media, with all those powerful men brought down by their piggy behaviour, while the Groper-in-Chief gets away with murder. I'm always looking for the pony in the mountain of manure, but these days that's not easy. Still, all this crazy behaviour, will eventually damage Trump beyond repair. And while his crazy base might cheer him on to war, I'm pretty confident most other Americans will get the wake up call many of them still need, and do what they must to remove him from power. My sense is that while the build up will be slow, the collapse will be quick. And I still cling to the hope that something good will come out of this seemingly never ending nightmare...

hi anon....yes, the talk about firing Tillerson is ominous, for although he was mostly useless, he did have some restraining influence on Trump. And that madman needs more of that not less. If Tillerson goes, the only one who could possibly keep him from declaring war on North Korea or Iran is Mad Dog Mattis. But when you have to place your hopes on the shoulders of somebody called Mad Dog, you know we are in trouble...

hi JD...I don't know how low can Trump go. I have thought he had hit the bottom at least a dozen times since he became president. But like the EverReady rabbit or hog he just keeps on going. Those tweets from that far-right racist group in Britain are so disgusting, they remind me of Nazi propaganda. I didn't bother to watch any of them, and you're right, if there was any justice Twitter would suspend Trump for running that kind of material. But with 60 million followers that's not going to happen, and all I can hope is that when he finally arrives in prison, they will take away his phone. So I can stand outside his pen and listen to him scream... ;)

hi anon...I take it you're a Trump fan, which is fine. But are you seriously saying that people shouldn't react to those kind of racist tweets? And that people who stand up for human decency are crazier than Trump? Because you're wrong about that, and it can only lead to a fascist society...

Simon said...

hi Filcher...yes he is definitely appealing to the lowest common denominator. But there is something about the way Trump's tweets are becoming coarser and coarser that worries me. What part of the net is he wandering through these days, and if the trend continues where on earth will he end up? It seems to me that he has the feral instincts of a demagogue/bully but not the intelligence or class to know where to draw the line. And that gives me a really bad feeling....
