Rick Mercer on Kellie Leitch's Race Baiting Campaign

With every passing day Kellie Leitch's absurd attempt to be Canada's Donald Trump is looking more desperate and pathetic.

She's been getting a lot of free publicity, and doing her best to sound like Trump...

But it's not getting her anywhere. Only three members of the Con caucus support her compared to eighteen for Andrew Scheer.

And one of those three is Peter Van Loan...

The porcine Con who used to date her.

So he doesn't count, or shouldn't.

And to make matters worse even Chris Alexander, Leitch's co host of the late but not lamented Cultural Barbarism show, is now slamming her.

Conservative leadership candidate Chris Alexander says fellow contender Kellie Leitch is importing anti-immigrant American rhetoric for “crass political purposes.”

“That is the single greatest cause of poisonous politics that we see south of our border or in Europe,” he told reporters Sunday after an leadership debate organized by a local riding association in Greely, south of Ottawa.

And when Alexander criticizes a Con for using bigotry for crass political purposes you know it's almost over eh?

Because who knows more about that than he does?

But of course, it may be absurd but it's not funny.

Not when swastikas are appearing all over the place in this country...

Not when Canada really is being poisoned. And we need Trump's bigotry like we need a hole in the head.

So I'm glad to see that Rick Mercer is letting Leitch know exactly how he feels about her...

Because it really needs to be said.

Race baiting is not a Canadian value. Leitch should delete her vile campaign.

And as for the Nazis in this country, the people a whole generation of soldiers fought and died to free us from.

They should consider this a warning...

Enough is enough.

Stop those Nazis and the racists from the Harper Trump Party.

Before they poison our country...

Leitch's vile campaign will hopefully crash and burn like her stupid barbaric hotline idea that sunk the con campaign last year. The media could start by holding her feet to the fire and calling her ideas the racist trash that they actually are.

Thank you Simon for this post. After a collective shock felt across the globe at the realization that Trump had won, I think people are starting to collect their wits. The next year will be quite interesting.

We can expect to see Kellie Leitch campaigning in Alberta for Jason Kenney - like Harper and Manning.

It may go much deeper than we thought.

The rise of American authoritarianism
A niche group of political scientists may have uncovered what's driving Donald Trump's ascent. What they found has implications that go well beyond 2016.

If she wins the leadership campaign she will have successfully imported Trump style politics into the Conservative party. Of course Big Daddy Harper got the ball rolling before he was obliterated at the polls yet Kellie keeps clinging to the race card.
This confirms to me that she is indeed a racist. Why go to all this trouble to stir up this cauldron of hate, to be subject to the scorn of decent people, unless you truly believe in these loathsome ideals.

Leitch is the frontrunner right now to win it. I remember another person running for office not too long ago and he was called a racist bigot too. I wonder how that turned out...

according to her own criteria, theleitch is unfit to be anything. she is:
1. an elite (although not political one because if she were, she'd be aware of Michel's 'Iron Law of Oligarchy' which claims that the formation of the elite is a tactical and technical necessity of [any] organization. -(James Hyland)).
2. a racist and a bigot (not a Canadian value)

in addition, she has been away from her orthopaedic practice for too long, and the recency of her hands-on experience matters.

Triple K Kellie is running to lead the Cons not for office. If she were she'd end up licking her wounds alongside her fellow race baiter Harper to which we all know how that turned out.

this was a great read, thanks

i think there is always a demographic that revels in the notion of 'simple, powerful, punitive' everywhere, even in Canada. but i don't think that 'simple, powerful, punitive' is OUR national need. sure there may be voices that understand might as right and prefer black and white simplicity but it is not a Canadian discourse... so theleitch is only digging her own hole (i really can't understand how she doesn't see that. -though i think JD's very last sentence offers an explanation).

thank Manitou (and JT) for our WAY classier ways.

It is doubtful Leitch's campaign will go away I would suggest there may be an increase in Conservative memberships. if that happens the Cons will go back to their Reform roots and all that entails. If Leitch becomes party leader I expect there will be many M.P.s who leave the party or join the federal Liberals.

Leitch's position on "race" worked well for Brexit and Trump. If she didn't have the position she does, she wouldn't be anywhere. Just look at all the attention she is getting.

There is a shift taking place in the world. We saw it with the election of the Philipino president and also with resistance of Hungary to take even 1200 refuges. Hungary has benefited from belonging to the E.U. and the E.U. provides 50% of the funding on 90% of their infrastructure projects. They risk loosing that, if they don't take the refugees.

In my opinion people are becoming more tribal in their approach to things. How that plays out will remain to be seen. This new world economy works well for multi national corporations and the 1%ers, not the average working person. They need some one to blame so they blame anyone and everyone who is different from themselves. What they need to do is take a look in the mirror.

What our right wing friend MC forgets is that the U.S. has a much larger conservative base than Canada does thereby nullifying any threat from such a race baiter. The Cons themselves know this and that is why they have been trying to show themselves as more centre and not so ideologically driven as say Harper who ironically knew he had to temper his more Reform party urges so as not to ruffle the feathers too much of the centre left Canadian populace. And with the election of Trump, and the horror many in Canada and around the world have felt, you just won't see a repeat of that here. She's a poor man's Trump, a pathetic caricature of a caricature. She may, MAY, win the Conservative leadership but even the righties can't agree on the direction of their party. It is a glorious sight to see the right eat their own, they do it with such relish.

hi bcwaterboy...I don't think Leitch will get far. Nick Kouvakis is trying to make her sound like a winner, but I've heard that Andrew Scheer is far more popular. Her new message sounds too much like the old one, so I doubt it will resonate. Give her enough rope and she will hang herself...

hi TS...yes, the shock is slowly wearing off. I've resigned myself to a Trump presidency, and intend to focus on supporting progressives in the U.S. who are determined to make him a one-term president. Progressives should always be hopeful and optimistic for only that way can we help build a better world. And of course I am consoled by the fact that people are starting to put crowns on Trump's head, and as you know I have a great collection... ;)

hi anon...I doubt it, I don't think Kenney wants anyone too controversial attaching themselves to his campaign. And Leitch might remind Albertans how many things her and Kenney have in common...

Simon said...

hi anon...yes I had read that article, and I believe I wrote a post about it back in March. Authoritarianism is a big problem all over the world. People are angry and disillusioned, and looking for strong leaders with simple answers to all their problems. The problem is there are no easy answers, no magic solutions. And when Trump's followers realize he is not the Wizard of Oz, it will be his downfall...

Simon said...

Hi JD...I'm more worried about her encouraging wannabe Trump supporters in the general population. There is a reliable group of Cons upon whose support she can count. But I doubt most delegates will want to choose a leader who reminds so many Canadians of the darkest parts of the Harper era. I Mostly blame Nick Kouvalis for what's happening. I'm sure she's completely under his influence. But as you point out, if it walks like a racist, or it quacks like a racist, it could very well be a racist...

Simon said...

hi Luce...I believe Leitch has been keeping up her practice, by doing rounds two days a week. Which is good, because I'm pretty sure her nasty campaign will not resonate with most Canadians, and she'll soon be back in the operating room full time...

hi e.a.f...there is no doubt that there is revolt against globalization going on all over the world. And that demagogues are looking for scapegoats. But I don't see that working here. We are a remarkably harmonious diverse society. It's our strength. There is no massive dissatisfaction except perhaps in Alberta. Our refugees have been quietly taken in, and have caused no problems. So Leitch is sowing her evil seeds on very barren ground....

The refugees have been welcomed into Canada and from what I can see all is going well. Everyone is happy, except in those areas where you have racists and there are places we in Canada do have them. It is those who Leitch is hoping to attract.

I believe part of having a "harmonious diverse society" is citizens in this country on average do better than Americans, starting with our health care system. It saves the average Canadian a lot of money year in and year out. Everyone has access to it. that makes life easier and when life is easier people are more willing to accept strangers.

get rid of Leitch once and for all!
