OK. Let me get this straight. The Republicans are still in shock. The crazed teabaggers are threatening to rip the GOP apart. Wednesday, the political direct-mail pioneer Richard Viguerie gathered a group of disenchanted conservatives for a news conference in Washington. Calling Romney's loss "the death rattle" of the GOP, Viguerie, chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, said, "The battle to take over the Republican Party begins today." Or demanding to secede like the slave states of the old Confederacy.
I've been so busy celebrating Obama's big victory, that I haven't been able to do this story justice. For it too was an amazing victory, and a tribute to all those gay Americans who never gave up the struggle despite one bitter defeat after the other. Never gave up spreading the word that marriage equality is a human right. And love is love...
Oh boy. I know I shouldn't gloat about what happened to Mitt Romney and his Teabaggers, who were soooooooo sure they were going to win, they are now in a state of shock and awe. Or in the sixth stage of the five stages of grief, and in terrible, terrible pain. My noble companion Sébastien says gloating is like kicking a bully in the head after knocking him out. And of course he's right eh? I don't do that anymore. But it's sooooooooo hard !!!!
Oh boy. I don't know how to say this, but I feel I almost owe Mitt Romney an apology. For while it's true that he's a shameless huckster who lied so much he almost fooled enough Americans into making him President. Which scared the bejeezus out of me eh?
Wow. What an amazing night. It's hours after it ended and I still can't believe it. How Obama knocked Mitt Romney off his White Horse, and sent him back to Bain Capital riding backwards on a burro. For as even David Frum admitted "This isn't a reaffirmation of the status quo. This is a Republican thumping."
Lordy. I must admit that I didn't think Mitt Romney's deep involvement with the Mormon Church should be an issue in the U.S. election campaign. For compared to all his other liabilities, and character defects, or his many crass sermons in the Temple of the One Percent, it seemed so trivial. And besides in religion-crazy America, what's one more homophobic, women hating faith, or cult? But now after watching this video I feel I might have made a big mistake.
It's hard not to see what's happening in the United States as anything less than a slow-motion horror show. A nation reeling from the catastrophe of Hurricane Sandy. A presidential election too close to call. National opinion polls suggest the race for the popular vote in Tuesday's election is so close that only a statistically insignificant point or two separates the two rivals. And an ever mutating Mitt Romney threatening a Zombie Apocalypse if he loses.
It's been a living nightmare. The dirtiest election I've ever seen. An election corrupted by Big Money, two billion dollars worth of attack ads, and more Big Lies than you can count. A frightening spectacle of a country so bitterly divided, it's eating itself alive.
I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Obama and Mitt Romney had a debate but only Romney showed up.
Mitt Romney pressed the reset button last night on his campaign. He presented himself as a compassionate centrist, deeply concerned about the fate of the unemployed and low-income households struggling to climb the economic ladder in a stagnant economy. Posing as a man who cares about the poor, when that callous millionaire has spent his whole life screwing them. Spewing one Big Lie after the other. While Obama just stood looking there looking like a wimp, and let him get away with murder.
