Will Erin O'Toole Survive The Con Revolt?

It was Parliament's first day back after a long break, and Erin O'Toole seemed particularly  agitated.

Waving his arms around, huffing and puffing, and demanding that Justin Trudeau meet with the truckers, even though many of them want to kill him.

So I can only imagine his shock when he found out that many of his own Cons want to get rid of HIM !!

And if they get their way, the increasingly desperate loser could be given the bum's rush before he knows what hit him.

Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole is facing an internal revolt and some members of his caucus are prepared to trigger a vote on his future as early as Wednesday, sources told CBC News.

MPs opposed to O'Toole's leadership have collected enough signatures — 35 so far — to hold a secret ballot to decide his fate, sources said.

A vote by 50 per cent plus one of the 119 sitting Conservative MPs calling on O'Toole to step down would force him to make way for an interim leader immediately.

But wait. It seems that O'Toole won't go quietly.

The old grifter clearly likes living in Stornoway, and believes he has the votes to stay on as leader.

And the Cons are now such a corrupt cult I suppose anything is possible.

But here's the good news.

If this is what triggered the revolt:

A senior Conservative source close to O'Toole, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said this revolt stems from the December vote on the conversion therapy ban.

That source said the "far right of the party" is angry that O'Toole let that Liberal government legislation pass through both chambers at the end of the last session.

And that revolt is supported by those who wanted the torture of LGBT kids to continue...

It can only mean that the many SoCons and other kooks and bigots are on the warpath and he's going to have to watch his back.

Or run for his life...

But whether O'Toole survives or not, nothing will save his party.

As Tasha Kherrridin wrote today in the National Post.

It’s official: Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole is a dead man walking.

Conservatives need to take a long hard look at themselves, what they stand for, who's leading their parade, and whose company they keep. Because if they don't they will wake up one day and they won't recognize the face in the mirror.

But Canadians will and guess what? It's the Liberals who will be free -- to govern the country for the next 100 years.

The Cons could be on the verge of tearing themselves apart, and going down in flames.

And since I've been predicting that for years.

I'm going to enjoy every minute...

Report: O'Toole tells MPs he's willing to change policies if he survives leadership review.

https://globalnews.ca/news/8586957/otoole-mps-policies-caucus-revolt/

He's tried nothing and he's all out of ideas. Does he not get that being Mr. Flip-Flop is at the core of why his own party wants him out and why the broader electorate can't trust him... or the party he lied to in order to convince Canadians that the party of bigots he lied to was not the same party that would lie their way to being elected, only to flip back to their *own* barbaric practices once in government? At least PET was graceful when he did the pirouette. But O'Foole must get whiplash, because he's got a screw loose.

I anticipate the impending Con implosion/civil war for two reasons. One because the last time the party came unraveled like this, the Chretien Liberals won majorities for a decade. Two because if that pattern repeated, it would finally shut up those idiot pundits calling for or "predicting" Trudeau's impending retirement. It would also stifle any stray loudmouths in the Liberal party itself, who may or may not be "organizing" to get him out.

And it couldn't happen to a more deserving group of "true blue" assholes.

It must have been a fun time in the O'Toole house last night:

- They're going to have a vote, what does that mean?
- The house, what do you mean the house? What about the cook and the cleaners? You better not be expecting me to be doing any of that, Erin!
- How come you never mention me in your Tweets? Don't you ever think about me?

Shortly thereafter: "Rebecca and I are committed to our Party..." LOL!

There is suspicion that the Tool orchestrated the leadership vote in order to squash the SoCon momentum before it became overpowering. He will likely survive, throw out a few small carrots to the more moderate SoCons with the others either silenced into dreaming about past and future glory days or defecting to Mad Max. It really doesn't change anything, there is no common party platform other than "Trudeau bad" so the Tool will continue sifting through the muck in the hopes of striking the mother load. The vultures will have to be content with sitting on the sidelines for a while longer until it becomes evident the gold lies elsewhere.

My heart says no but my head says I really, really, really hope so.

I cannot think of much better situation than Erin O'Toole leading a party where 1/3 or more of the Conservative caucus wants him gone.

Hi Jackie....When I saw that story, I couldn't stop laughing. It reminds me of the famous Groucho Marx quote:
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others. It's totally pathetic, and it just shows how desperately he wants to cling to his comfy Stornoway. It also should tell Canadians that he can't be trusted. But everything is so crazy out there, I can't be sure of anything....

Hi anon@8:40 PM....I wouldn't be surprised. Rebecca strikes me as the one tells Erin what to do, and more importantly has the key to the liquor locker. I'll bet they are having a few drinks tonight, but not too many because the caucus meeting that will decide his fate starts at 9:00 am. And it wouldn't be good to look hungover....

Hi RT...The last part of O'Toole's e-mail statement certainly makes it look like he is trying to crush the SoCons before they become an even bigger problem. Except that there are so many of them, I can't help feeling that he's bluffing. And O'Toole seems to forget that the more he pleasures the SoCons, the less Canadians will trust him. He is a man with no principles or long term vision, and the only thing that's keeping him afloat is that the Cons don't have anybody to replace him with. Which should be the end of THEM...

Hi Ottlib....I know how you feel. I am tormented in the same way. Sometimes I dream of O'Toole staying on and disgracing himself over and over again, while pulling knives out of his back. And then I dream of Poilievre stalking the countryside like some sort of Frankenstein scaring people wherever he goes with his increasingly far-right views. It such a difficult choice, but I console myself by thinking that one way or the other we can't lose...

Cathie from Canada said...

Poilievre will get votes in the west, just because he is to the right of Attila the Hun, and almost as attractive!
But he's not going to survive in BC, or down East, I don't think.
I just hope we don't get somebody like Ambrose coming back to save the party - but then again, I don't think Harper would let that happen.

Hey Simon

I took the dive into the bird app. Following you!

Eventually I'll figure out what to do with it.

O'Toole needs to go and the party needs a major shakeup or defeat to straighten it up.

Unlike the I Stand With Trudeau cult that does nothing but scream fake scandal and cry about how mean everyone is to the PM and defends any controversy involving the PM until they are breathless, some of us actually believe in holding our officials to account.

I for one hope that this Neo-Trumpian rebellion fails to oust the Tool. O’Toole’s meek and weak-willed leadership keeps cons internally-divided. If the Reform/Republican wing of the Cons succeed and install a conservative loudmouth as their leader, they will no doubt absorb Mad Max’s supporters and clamp down on what little moderation remains of the old Tory’s. They may even grow in influence that they fulfill Harper/Manning’s dream of normalizing Republican style politics in Canada. That would be a disaster for Canada’s political and cultural sovereignty. Say goodbye to Peace Order and Good Government and hello to God, Guns and Gays.

On the other hand, there is also the possibility that absent a macho-figure head, the power vacuum can lead to an all-out brawl between the various right-wing factions who will try to out-trump each other to earn the coveted leadership seat. There is that drunken fool Moe Cosplaying as Canada’s Ron Desantis, Captain Andrew America, PP, Oklahoma Congresswoman Garner, Religious Fanatic Garnett Genuis, Canada’s very own Karen MAGA Bergen and Alberta’s embattled Goofball Kenney. All said individuals are highly unqualified and have egos so big that they will never compromise or co-operate with each other.

Who knows, maybe one of them may even make the pilgrimage to Maro Lago and ask for the endorsement of the Orange one. (he has already been endorsed by some Canadians why wouldn’t he return the favor?)

I can’t believe that I’m saying this but the only con who has shown political acumen in all of this is Ontario’s Boss Ford. Sensing the impending implosion of the CPC, he has decided to stay out of the childish shenanigans of the Federal Cons and pick off the putrid carcass of the CPC. His mild comment on the anti-vax convoy is an indirect challenge to the Trumpian Feds. No doubt that Boss Hogg is using this event as a means of offering an alternative con leadership style to the moderates who are about to be left out of the Federal Party. Someone is giving the Boss good advice.

Either way, as long as the con on con division persists, Canadians can rest easy knowing that their country is safe from the machinations of right-wing buffoons.

Hi Cathie….I think Poilievre will be hoping to try to muscle out any Cons who would stand in his way, and his popularity with the Con base should give him a big advantage. But if Poilievre does become leader he will alienate most Canadians and weaken the party further. The fact is that the the SoCons have a stranglehold on the party, and they will make life hell for anyone who doesn’t kneel before them. I think the only chance the Cons have of becoming a legitimate party again is if they can recruit an outside candidate. But who in their right mind would want to become the leader of a party like that one….

Simon said...

Hi Jackie….That’s great news. It’s about time more Canadians got to hear from you, and we will have a lot of fun teaming up to bring down the Cons,
Attention everybody Jackie’s Twitter handle Is @MsFuddleDuddle.
Everybody follow her!!!

Hi BX….We’ll O’Toole has gone down, but I think his replacement could prove to be even more divisive. The hardliners feel that they were the ones who should get the credit for bringing O’Toole down, and they will do everything to make sure that he is replaced by somebody who is more closely aligned with their views. It makes no sense of course, but they are fanatics, so faith comes first. If the Cons can come up with someone who can unite their party I’d be very surprised. But I am betting on a low level civil war, that should finish off this miserable un-Canadian party….

Simon said...

Hi anon@8::48 AM…..Well that’s quite an admission. A Con who believes that your
party may need another defeat to straighten it up. Good, good for you. I don’t doubt that your wish will come true. But here’s a hint, you can go on calling the Liberals an I Stand With Trudeau cult. But the truth is many Canadians genuinely admire Justin Trudeau for his decency, and for his progressive policies. All your party can do is try to tear down its opponents in the most vile ways, and as long as you Cons keep that up you will get nowhere…

Will Erin O'Toole Survive The Con Revolt? Caucus says.... NO!

The good news for Erin is there's no shortage of trucks in Ottawa to move him out of Stornaway.

The SCHEER factor was not there for this circular firing squad but I still enjoyed it.

Following Jackie, should be easy to figure out who I am. :p

Candice Bergen interim leader, already spouting conspiracy stuff.
Sadly, she can't be the actual leader due to party rules, so we'll have to wait for Genuis or Poilievre or Cooper to take a run at it next year.

The end is near, for the former Big Blue Machine...

Simon said...

Hi anon@3:08PM….Since the Cons are encouraging the terrorist truckers I would like to see them towing those trucks out of there. Harness them up to the trucks and have them pull them like horses. Michelle Rempel can steer the trucks and blow the air horn, if she promises not to get drunk…😉

Simon said...

Hi Pierre….I share your disappointment that Candy Bergen will not be allowed to run for leader. But a year or so as interim leader should convince the last of the Con moderates that MAGA Lady should be the last Con leader. Bergen is a foul religious fanatics and far right extremist, and by making her their interim leader the Cons have made a fatal mistake, as they will soon find out…
