Harper and the Monster behind the Mask

Ever since I heard about Stephen Harper's speech to the faithful at Parson Manning's Con Conclave I wanted to get hold of a transcript. The one the PMO refused to provide.

So I could see what other crazy things he said the day his mask fell off.

Now thanks to David Akin I got what I wanted.

So I can add this to my long list of deeply disturbing Great Monster Leader quotes:

Don't you just love the laughter? Isn't he disgusting? Hurting parents and children and JOKING about it?

You know the photojournalist Tom Hanson took a photo of Stephen Harper during the last election campaign that I will never forget.
















Because to me it symbolizes the monster behind the mask.

The one they don't want us to see. The coarse foulmouthed guy who swears all the time. But likes to pose with kittens.The brutish right-wing extremist and theocon who wants to change Canada beyond recognition.

Tragically, Tom Hanson died the other day of a sudden heart attack. He was a brilliant photographer. But that photograph will always be my favourite.

Because after that shot....and that monstrous speech.

We can't say we haven't been warned...

The Day Stephen Harper's Mask Fell Off

Well I suppose it had to happen someday. Stephen Harper's mask finally fell off. He confused Preston Manning's crummy Con conference with a beer garden...or a Baptist Church. And the monster was finally revealed.

Harper told the group that his version of conservatism is summed up "in three Fs:freedom, family and faith."

He said individual freedom is vital but it must be tempered by family and faith.

Faith in all its forms teaches . . . that there is a right and wrong beyond mere opinion or desire. Most importantly, it teaches us that freedom is not an end in itself, that how freedom is exercised matters as much as freedom itself."

Because by their words you shall know them. And let's be absolutely clear. Not only are the three Fs the slogan of every tinpot fascist dictator from Franco and Salazar to Pinochet and Bush.

It's also the favourite slogan of the Christian Right....including the reactionary, homophobic, anti-choice fanatics from the Family Research Council.

“Family, Faith, & Freedom.” Although these three values seem benign, the framing strategy constructed by the FRC painted a dire picture in which same sex marriage and abortion are threatening America from within, while terrorism is threatening the family from without—a frame that points to the terrorist attacks on 9/11, while leaping over criticism over the war in Iraq, other specific military interventions and the economy.

Which makes me wonder who wrote this speech? Was it Harper, or his new/nouveau Deputy Chief of Staff Darrel Reid...the former President of Focus on the Family?

Or one of the many other thecons in the cloisters of the PMO?

You know I'm not surprised that Harper said what he said. His pretending to be a Liberal, so he can fool Canadians into giving him a majority, has his rabid base foaming at the mouth and threatening to desert him.

So he had to send them a message: I'm still Stephen your Godly servant....I'm still one of YOU. *Hisssss*

What does surprise me is that so few in the MSM seemed to hear the coded message or react to it.

Because after this, any decent Canadians who don't understand what a threat Stephen Harper's SoCons are to our country and its values, should get brain transplants.

Before they wake up in a Canada they don't recognize.

Fight them. Fight them. Don't let them win....

China's Internet War and the Grass-Mud Horse

In China resistance to heavy handed internet censorship takes many forms. But these days the most popular and mindblowing one is the grass-mud horse.

The grass-mud horse is an example of something that, in China’s authoritarian system, passes as subversive behavior. Conceived as an impish protest against censorship, the foul-named little horse has not merely made government censors look ridiculous, although it has surely done that.

It has also raised real questions about China’s ability to stanch the flow of information over the Internet — a project on which the Chinese government already has expended untold riches, and written countless software algorithms to weed deviant thought from the world’s largest cyber-community.

The expression and cartoon videos may seem like a juvenile response to an unreasonable rule.....But the fact that the vast online population has joined the chorus, from serious scholars to usually politically apathetic urban white-collar workers, shows how strongly this expression resonates.

The grass-mud horse as an icon of resistance. In a country where bloggers are jailed.
















Think about that the next time you hear the right-wing racist bloggers in this country screaming about how the Gestapo Human Rights Commission is OPPRESSING them.

Harper and the Trap of the Spidey Man

I see Great Spidey Leader tried to lure the Liberal Senators into a trap.... or his tangled web of lies. But the Senators escaped in the nick of time. And so did Iggy.

Ignatieff said Liberal senators acted "with dispatch" after learning that some EI claimants would lose five weeks of benefits if the bill didn't get passed immediately.

Something the Tories had conveniently concealed.

So now these slimy Cons are feeling the heat...like Ted Menzies did today on the Don Newman show. When he tried to claim that he had told Parliament on March 27 the E.I. benefits were retroactive.












Only to have Newman consult Hansard ....and point out he didn't.

The bottom line: Stephen Harper and his Cons are so desperate for an election they were prepared to make ordinary Canadians suffer. Just like they are prepared to lie about anything. Or use tax payer's money to fund blatant campaign ads.

Don't you just love the BLUE tax credits falling from the sky?

The bad news? Even in these ominous economic times they're STILL playing political games.

The good news? Only because they're DESPERATE.

The Harper camp is seemingly more intent on the idea of an early election: They don't want to give the Liberal Leader time. They fear him. It is why they're going back into gutter mode and preparing attacks ads to dirty up his reputation. For a while, it looked as if the Harper team would refrain from this. Not now.

You know I can't help feeling if we give these sleazy creepy alien Cons a little time...and a little rope. By the time fall arrives, they should be just about ready to hang themselves in their own tangled webs.

Or eat flies.

Can you imagine how much damage they could inflict on themselves if they are seen to be playing cheap political games at a time like this one?

Dancing with the Missiles in India

I see the giant Israeli arms maker Rafael has come up with an original way to sell weapons to the Indians.

By encouraging them to kick up their heels.

And dance with the missiles...


Wow. Dinga Dinga Dee.

Although I don't know why the Israeli military industrial complex....the fourth largest in the world.... had to stage a musical show.

After showing off its shiny new weapons in Gaza.

Hmmmm....You know I LOVE Indian music and dancing.

But when it comes to videos....

Afghanistan and the Persecution of Sayed Kambaksh

He faces twenty years in a prison full of people who want to kill him.

For the crime of standing up for women's rights in Afghanistan.

After a so-called legal process that was a monumental travesty of justice.

Sayed Pervez Kambaksh, the student journalist sentenced to death for blasphemy in Afghanistan, has been told he will spend the next 20 years in jail after the country's highest court ruled against him – without even hearing his defence.

Mr Kambaksh was found guilty of blasphemy and sentenced to death last year for circulating an essay on women's rights which questioned verses in the Koran.

The Supreme Court's decision means Mr Kambaksh's best hope is now a presidential pardon, which will force Mr Karzai to choose between fundamentalists in his government and the rule of law.

Mr Kambaksh's case has been passed to the prosecutors' office for "execution of the sentence", which means he could be moved to Kabul's notorious Pul-e Charkhi prison, or north to Mazar-i-Sharif, where he was first found guilty. Both hold murderers, rapists and violent Taliban sympathisers. Conditions inside are grim and both are prone to deadly riots..

Now I realize that our doomed mission in Afghanistan fell off the cliff long ago. But all that Canadian blood at least gives us the right to demand that Sayed Pervez Kambaksh be freed.

IMMEDIATELY.

So what is the Harper government waiting for ?

And if the puppet Karzai won't pardon him...so as not to offend the religious extremists in his corrupt government who are screaming for Sayed's blood.

Can we please fire him? Or free Sayed ourselves?

Stephen Harper: Sunflower or Weed?

Gosh. What a difference a day makes. Yesterday Stephen Harper was sounding like a sexist sunflower.

Today he sounds like a weed. And here comes da wacker.

Canada's economy was harder hit in the final few months of 2008 than most people realize, the Parliament's budget watchdog warns in a report that takes some of the gloss off the upbeat assessment Prime Minister Stephen Harper gave Canadians a day earlier.

GDI plunged sharply in the second half of 2008 in Canada – by a degree that far exceeds what happened in the United States. It dropped by 15.3 per cent in the fourth quarter over the previous three months. This drop was ten times larger than the 1.5 per cent decline observed in the United States, Mr. Page's office said in its report.

OK so I know they didn't see it coming, and were calling for surpluses even as our economy was tanking.

And I know that because they are the last of the de-regulating Bush Cons they really don't know how to fix the economy without blowing up their failed ideology.

But I still need to know something. I think we all do.

Are these lying Cons lying to us AGAIN ?

Or are they just incompetent? And if so what are they bragging about?

And why are taxpayers paying for that disgusting Con ad?

Time to weed the garden called Canada. Put the Cons in the compost heap of history.

Did the German Gunman Target Women?

I hope I'm wrong. I hope it was just random madness. But this sounds so horribly familiar.

Heribert Rech, interior minister of Baden-Wuerttemberg state, told a press conference this evening that the youth killed nine students and three teachers. Eight of the dead students were women, as were two of the teachers. Seven other women students are in hospital with serious injuries.

Mr Rech said that the gunman's father owned 15 firearms legally, of which 14 were under lock and key and one in the bedroom. That one was stolen, along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Cue the crazy wingnuts: He didn't hate women he was just crazy. Guns don't kill people ....people kill people.

I've heard it all before.

When in fact guns do kill people.

Sexism and the war on women's rights can lead to murder.

And the sooner we can eliminate those curses.

The safer this world will be...

Stephen Harper's Lying Sexist Speech

I'm glad Stephen Harper personally wrote this pathetic speech..

Because not only does it show how hopelessly incompetent and delusional Great Strategic Genius , Economist, Loser Leader is. It also shows us what a pathetic person he is as well.

An incorrigible, shameless liar.

A Daddy Knows Best sexist piggy.

"In my experience it works like this: If you own a home and you have a wife, you will probably be doing home renovations in this year."

Who seems to get a woody demeaning women's equality.

And a partisan hack, who rather than unite the country in a time of recession, is just looking for an excuse to call an election, before the economic situation gets even worse. And before the Liberals fill their coffers.

My advice? If he's so desperate for an election now don't give him one.

Let the Cons simmer in their own juices. Get more and more desperate. Stir them gently every now and then.

And by fall they should be ready to be served....

But isn't it comforting to know that if the recession Porko didn't see coming, gets REALLY desperate....

The Cons might be good for SOMETHING?

When Rape is a Video game

I find a lot of video games too violent and ugly but this is the absolute limit.

A computer game in which players compete to rape women and get them to abort their babies has been pulled from sale on Amazon.com.

In the game, players begin stalking a mother on a subway station before violently raping her. They then move on to attack her two daughters, described as virgin schoolgirls.

Players are also allowed to enter "freeform mode" where they can rape any woman and get other male game characters to join the attacks.

I don't know what sick minds could dream up anything as disgusting as this foul "game."

This article says it has a lot to do with Japan's twisted attitudes to sex.

But I don't care.

Rape isn't sex it's VIOLENCE. And if it's available online then those who access it should be treated the same as those who access child pornography.

As for the designers and the makers...charge them, jail them, drive them out of business.

Because some things are TOO disgusting and evil.

And enough is enough...
