Rob Ford and the Scary Story of the Jailhouse Beating

The man himself is bad enough. A bully, an anti-gay bigot, a crass Con buffoon. 

The most famous Canadian in the world, to our everlasting shame, and the worst mayor Toronto or any other city has ever known.

So the last thing I really needed to hear was more about his family's scary problems.

I can't imagine a worse way to end this horrible year in Harperland than having Luka Magnotta awarded the title of Newsmaker of the Year.

For not only is that cruel psychopath smirking in his jail cell tonight.

It also says so much about about the country we have become, and how low we have fallen.

Rob Ford: When the Bigot is a Moron

Damn. I've been trying to think of something nice to say about Rob Ford for soooo long.

It's the kind of guy I am. Always looking for the good in people. Or the pony in the manure. 

And besides after calling him an incompetent buffoon, a crass and vulgar redneck, and a pathetic bigot, I figure I owe him one eh?

But it's no good. As hard as I try, I just can't put lipstick on a Con like that one. 

But what I can do from now on, is call him Mayor Moron. 

Did the German Gunman Target Women?

I hope I'm wrong. I hope it was just random madness. But this sounds so horribly familiar.

Heribert Rech, interior minister of Baden-Wuerttemberg state, told a press conference this evening that the youth killed nine students and three teachers. Eight of the dead students were women, as were two of the teachers. Seven other women students are in hospital with serious injuries.

Mr Rech said that the gunman's father owned 15 firearms legally, of which 14 were under lock and key and one in the bedroom. That one was stolen, along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Cue the crazy wingnuts: He didn't hate women he was just crazy. Guns don't kill people ....people kill people.

I've heard it all before.

When in fact guns do kill people.

Sexism and the war on women's rights can lead to murder.

And the sooner we can eliminate those curses.

The safer this world will be...

The Lost Boys and the Summer of '67

They were murdered 42 years ago. When they found them they were just skeletons. It took police 40 years to reconstruct their faces. They were lost for so long.

But at least now we know their names. One was Eric.

And the other was Richard.

And that they were probably both murdered by a serial killer who was targeting young gay men.

The murders have similarities to other cases in the summer of '67, when two young men were picked up in downtown Toronto's gay neighbourhood, then taken to rural areas and attacked.

A fact that wasn't mentioned in any of today's media reports, and one that makes me wonder how hard police tried to catch this serial killer back in the summer of '67. When Expo was getting underway, Canadians were happy and optimistic, Lulu was tearing up the charts.

Whoever she was.

And homosexuality was illegal. Gay men were being busted in their own homes, and beaten by police, and even jailed as dangerous offenders.

So why would the police do anything to help gay people when they considered them CRIMINALS? And so did so many other Canadians.

Eric and Richard probably had no chance for justice.

You know when I hear older gay guys going on about how the gay youth of today is ungrateful, spoiled, shallow, and stoopid, I sometimes get annoyed. Extremely annoyed.

But when I think about the Canada they had to live in.

I always forgive them....
