Stephen Harper and Mr Nice Guy

When I see Stephen Harper continuing his ridiculous campaign to try to make us believe he's really a nice Ordinary Guy.

And I see how his phony act seems to be fooling so many Canadians.

The missing piece for Conservatives has long been leader likability. Harper has been seen as boring, remote and stiff.

His musical performance at a National Arts Centre fundraising gala helped complete the puzzle by allowing him -- nearly four years into his current job -- to appear approachable and fun-loving. An ordinary guy.

I wonder how ANYONE can really believe that an angry right-wing ideologue with authoritarian tendencies like Harper, can somehow magically morph into a gentler kinder version of himself.

And do they ever wonder what might happen if a man like Great Angry Nice Ugly Pretty Ordinary Leader ever got a majority?

When the mask could finally come off...like the Phantom of the Opera's did.

The REAL Stephen Harper could emerge.

And carve up this country like a TURKEY.

Which is such a scary nightmare eh?

I just had to make a new video....

You know I haven't a clue why so many Canadians are so easily fooled. And I'm not sure I want to know. But I think I can understand why they can't see the danger.

They probably don't think that bad things like that could happen in Canada eh?

And who can really blame them?

I can hardly believe it myself.

Fight them, fight them, don't give up.

Don't let them win....

The Rise and Fall of Michael Ignatieff

He came. He conquered....

He stabbed the Coalition for Change in the back... and made a deal with the devilwerewolf.

He supported Harper so many times...and took his party so far to the right you couldn't distinguish it from the Conservatives.

Then he took the summer off to do...um...something.

And when he came back he went into the woods to make some boring ads...although this one was pretty exciting eh?

Only to emerge and declare that he didn't like the werewolf anymore, and wanted an IMMEDIATE election.

One he couldn't possibly win...

And here we are now.

It's like he went from being the messiah to being the village idiot.

Frank Graves, EKOS president

And what I want to know now is will he FIRE his idiot advisers? Every last one of them.

Will he kiss Jack Layton's ass...on one cheek or BOTH for preventing him from committing political suicide ....and handing Stephen Harper a majority?

And is he now prepared to do to Harper, what Great Ugly Leader did to him? By launching the most vicious attack ads this country has ever seen.

Or should I prepare to play this song?

For him and for Canada...

Because let's face it we are facing a REAL apocalypse...

Can he recover? Maybe. I hope so. But it won't be easy.

Because one more Iggiot mistake and there won't be much left of him.

And there won't be much left of Canada...

My Letter of Apology to Stephen Harper

Dear Great Leader

As you probably know I am not one of your biggest fans. I believe you are the worst Prime Minister in Canadian history.

And that your cheap cabaret act last night at the NAC Gala, not only demeaned the office of Prime Minister, but also insulted every starving artist in this country by suggesting you were one of them. When everyone knows you HATE them.

And that whatever ridiculous nonsense your legion of media sycophants may spout.

Nothing can change the fact that by forcing yourself on the Gala....or excuse me.... having your wife force you on the event.

The whole thing began to take shape a month ago when Mrs. Harper approached Jayne Watson – chief executive officer of the National Arts Centre Foundation, which hosted Saturday's gala to benefit youth in performing arts – about putting the Prime Minister on stage. “She said, ‘What would you think if I asked my husband to perform at the gala?' I said, ‘That would be fantastic and unexpected! Of course,' “ Ms. Watson said.

Even though she's the honorary chair... and what's poor Ms Watson to say? "Oh God no, what a hideous and horrifying idea...the artists would never forgive us?"

You not only demeaned the event by turning it into a vulgar campaign stop, you revealed the depth of your hypocrisy, your complete contempt for the arts, and of course that you'll do ANYTHING to try to fool idiot Canadians into giving you a majority. So you can screw this country like a donkey. Pardon the expression eh?

BTW did you ask those rich people at the Gala to applaud...or just rattle their pearls ?

On the other hand, although we obviously have our differences, I do try to keep my criticisms of you within the realm of what your good buddy Tom "Strangelove " Flanagan calls the truthful.... or the merely plausible. And unlike you I am man enough to admit it when I make a mistake.

So you know when I said in my post last night that this was the worst Beatles cover EVAH ?

Well I want to apologize. Because I was WRONG.

After consulting with an international panel of experts, and doing extensive research. And after finally convincing my dog that those horrible sounds you made were NOT Sally the golden retriever next door calling out to him.

Down boy !!!! Down !!!!

I have concluded that you don't even deserve that lowly award.

You must share it with this guy...

Sorry.

Maybe next year.

That is if you haven't got a majority by then, and shocked your idiot groupies by turning the National Arts Centre into a beer garden.

Here's hoping you never do. Here's wishing you the worst campaign EVAH.

Your Disloyal Servant.

Simon

The Night Stephen Harper Croaked

Oh.My.God. Imagine going out for a fancy shmancy evening at the National Arts Centre, expecting to see some high-class acts.

And without warning have your eyes, your ears ...your very soul....assaulted by this cheap cabaret act.

Golly. I don't know about you. But I'd want my money back. Because that has to be the worst cover of a Beatles song EVAH. So bad it hurt my ears, and made my dog howl with excitement...no doubt believing it was the bitch next door calling him to come and play. Woof. Woof.

And can you believe the hypocrisy?

Singing a song promoting DRUGS!!!!

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends
Mm, I get high with a little help from my friends
Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends

Just as he's planning to jail millions of young Canadians for smoking marijuana.

And can you believe him singing croaking away at the Gala...pretending to be an ordinary guy. After trashing it last year:

"I think when ordinary working people come home, turn on the TV and see … a bunch of people … at a rich gala, all subsidized by taxpayers, claiming their subsidies aren't high enough when they know those subsidies have actually gone up, I'm not sure that's something that resonates with ordinary people..."

And not even letting his poor wife escort John Baird to the ball. Even though she was the honorary chair.

Lordy. I still can't believe someone could be so cruel. That Johnzilla story is sadder than Cinderella. The Phantom of the Opera was scary eh? But this one's a MANIAC!!!!

Who'll do ANYTHING for a majority.

Oh well... a few thoughts come to mind as the full horror of this cheap cabaret act sinks in. An election can't be far off. I wish Ringo hadn't changed the lyrics:

Starr insisted on changing the first line which originally was "What would you do if I sang out of tune? Would you stand up and throw tomatoes at me?" He changed the lyric so that fans would not throw tomatoes at him should he perform it live.

And who the fuck gave Great Crooner Croaker Leader the idea that he could sing that song?

When it's not a even a Con song and that ridiculous nerd should stick to Perry Como.

Because that song belongs to US !!!

Especially when Joe sings it...

Now THAT is how it's done.

You know ...after listening to that song...it strikes me that with a little help from our friends...and a little unity on the progressive side.

We could send those crass Cons back to Alberta. Build a kinder, gentler, better country.

And then get REALLY high...

The Liberals: Between Denial and Insanity

OK look enough is enough. Ever since I announced that I have decided to save the Liberal Party... from itself..... I have tried to be as positive as possible.

But when does denial become insanity? And why are Liberal bloggers STILL demanding the NDP help bring down the government?

And not just the blindly partisan ones, but thoughtful bloggers like this one.

That is why we believe the time has come to vote the Tory government out of government and have an election so that Canadians can get the government they really need.

When the brutal fact is the Liberals are going down like the Hindenburg, and an election at this time could be a disaster that gives Harper the majority he needs to carve up this country like a turkey.

As this latest poll proves.

From the La Presse article:

The Liberal Party finds itself with the same score Mr Dion obtained last year. Mr Ignatieff peaked in April when he made a series of speeches in Quebec and demonstrated a certain opening. People at that time were charmed. But he's been losing support ever since.

And with that kind of momentum you don't go looking for an election, you go looking for a doctor...or a psychiatrist.

Every portrait needs a frame and Liberals had none for Ignatieff...should Ignatieff fail, blame will rest squarely on deluded Liberals who persuaded themselves that returning to power was inevitable and no more demanding than a beauty pageant.

Because if you don't you'll soon be looking for a MORTICIAN.

The sad unavoidable truth is that something has gone terribly wrong with Ignatieff's campaign, and until they figure out what that is, the Liberals should simply attack the Harper government, and stop bugging the NDP to bring it down.

On Ignatieff's head. And Canada's.

Don Martin has some suggestions.

And I have one too. Enough with the wimpy ads and start hammering the government mercilessly with the most aggressive attack ads Canada has ever seen.

Not just attacking the Cons miserable record, but also casting doubts on what they would do with a majority. Because if you are going to show what you can do BETTER you have to show what the Cons could do WORSE. The Liberals put the cart before the horse, and now they're paying for it big time.

And if they can't figure out what WORSE means may I please help? By suggesting something like this:

Stephen Harper is planning to destroy medicare, because he's tried to do that since he came into politics. He wants to kill the CBC and other Canadian institutions because he hates Canada so much. He wants to destroy the gun registry and flood our streets with guns so criminals can kill police officers and other innocent people.

He wants to criminalize abortion and get rid of gay marriage because his government is crawling with sinister theocons who hate women and gays with a passion. He hates government so much even our old age pensions aren't safe. Because he loves Alberta more than Canada, he's allowing Big Oil to destroy our manufacturing sector, and take food out of the mouths of children in Eastern Canada.

He's torching our planet so our grandchildren will starve. He wants to change Canada into a frightening place we won't even recognize. Because this angry ideologue, who takes his orders from God, is pretty frightening himself. With all his multiple personalities you never know who your dealing with: Kitten Man or the Majority Monster. How could we EVER trust him?

Don't we deserve better than that?

Golly. And that's just for starters. As Tom Flanagan says it doesn't have to be true, it just has to be plausible eh?

Plausible enough for you? Glad to be of service.

Now c'mon Liberals let's stop this crazy denial. Say thank you to the NDP.

And hit the Cons where it hurts...

Michael Ignatieff and the Midnight Hour

They say a week in politics can be an eternity. So I can only imagine what a few weeks must be like for Michael Ignatieff and the Liberals.

Back then they were clamouring for an election. Now they have gone silent. And even Jeffrey Simpson has figured out.

It must therefore be awfully tempting for the Conservatives, having spent all that taxpayers' money on ads promoting themselves through the Economic Action Plan, having doled out more billions of dollars than any government since the Second World War, having governed politically on the theory that “an announcement a day keeps the Liberals at bay” and having avoided a serious mistake the past six months or so, to find the means of defeating themselves, thereby laying off the blame for a vote on one or more of the opposition parties, and so try their luck in an election campaign, at the start of which they would be tantalizingly close to a majority government.

What I figured out a month ago.

And the news isn't getting any better.

Which raises another disturbing question: should the NDP do what the Liberals want them to do...or DID? And bring down the whole house of cards

And the answer is still NO. Because the future of Canada is far more important than the electoral advantage of any party.

And our time will come.

The number of people on E.I.may be going down....but numbers can be deceiving.

Labour economist Erin Weir agreed the decline in new entrants to the rolls of those on EI was welcome, but cautioned that the fall-off in Canadians receiving benefits is likely an indication that workers have exhausted their entitlements rather than that they have found new jobs.

And as welfare rolls start to swell, in a couple of months the damage to the real economy will become obvious.

And even if the economy does recover slightly the big question will remain. How are we going to bring down that massive deficit? The Liberal and NDP way?

Or Stephen Harper's way?

Because that's what the next election should be about. As well as the filth and corruption of the Harper regime.

You know when you are not blinded by political partisanship, and your country comes first, and nothing is more important than denying Stephen Harper a majority, it tends to concentrate the mind.

Which is why I dare to suggest that perhaps the Liberals and the NDP might think of having secret talks to coordinate their strategy, so we can strike when the time is right.

I know it's quite a concept, and I realize it would be difficult. Although not impossible.

But with Canada in such mortal danger, and the midnight hour upon us, I can't see why we can't learn to dance together.

Just like these guys did...

Oh sure...it's not as much fun as the chicken dance.

But if we don't stop playing into the hands of the Cons, history will laugh at us.

And Canada will never forgive us....

Stephen Harper and the Poison Pill

Uh oh. I see Stephen Harper is getting ready to deliver an economic statement.

The kind the Parliamentary foodtasters have to lick before they dare table it.

And I can only imagine what a state of arousal Great Ugly Leader must be in...walking around hunched over, getting a sponge tongue bath from John Baird to try to bring down his raging fever. Or just thrashing around on the floor biting the carpet. And asking God what he would do.

Because it's going to be really really hard to keep that mask on, and pretend he doesn't want an election, when he can practically SMELL a majority.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is outshining rival Michael Ignatieff and putting the Conservatives on track for a possible majority in the next election, a new Angus Reid Strategies/Toronto Star poll has found.

And he's slurping with agony, because he can't decide whether to force a poison pill down Jack Layton and Gille Duceppe's throats. Or shove one up their asses.

Although that's the thing that worries me eh?

I don't understand why the Liberals are in such a hurry for an election. Why would they take shots at the NDP when one day they will have to work with them?

Shouldn't they be thanking them for finding a good excuse to delay an election? And saving Ignatieff from HIMSELF.

You know... stopping his mad charge up the hill from turning into a massacre. Or preventing his peaceful picnic in the Enchanted Forest.

From turning into a Stephen King Harper nightmare...

Golly. From playing dead to BEING dead. Is that progress?

Can we really risk having an election at this time...and handing Harper the majority he craves so much?

Can you miss the trees for the enchanted forest ? Does a bear shit in the woods?

You know I love my Liberal friends as much as I love my NDP ones. But impatience isn't a virtue.

And suicide isn't victory...

Stephen Harper's Killer Action Plan

Well I must say the timing couldn't have been better. And neither could the hideous spectacle.

There was Great Ridiculous Leader flogging his Economic Action vote-buying plan, like some cheap huckster on late-night TV.

"Yabba dabba doo git ya Economic Action Plan !!! Double the dough if we don't have an election!!! "

On the same day as this story was making headlines.

The Conservative government is spending more than five times as many taxpayer dollars on promoting its economic plan as it is on raising public awareness about the flu pandemic.

Yikes. Can you believe that? They're more interested in buying votes than saving OUR lives? Harper doesn't care about us, it's all about HIM.

And BTW don't these Cons have ANY Canadian values?

Because let's face it, the only other place you can find a government website like this one.

Is in a place like North Korea. And that's after they did a hasty little reno job..

The government of Canada website set up to promote the Conservative economic action plan had a slightly different look Monday: more than 30 photos of Prime Minister Stephen Harper had been removed.

Ouch. That must REALLY hurt. I bet Great Shrinking Leader is furious. First he gets snubbed by Obama now this humiliation.

Golly. If he gets any smaller they'll have to carry him around in a jam jar.

Hmmm.... you know I think we can work with this one. Heh heh heh.

Because killing Canada is one thing eh?

But killing us is even BETTER...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

P.S. I've been feeling pretty gloomy about an election recently.

But now my mood is definitely improving....

Woof. Woof !!!

First we chew them up a bit.

Then we bite their ASSES...

The Liberals and the Election Madness

As I stumbled down to the beach today I couldn't help thinking about the last scene in the Bridge Over the River Kwai. When the bridge blows up, all the main characters die, and the British doctor comes stumbling out of the jungle muttering "Madness. Madness."

Because that's how I feel these days when I gaze at the smouldering wreckage of the Canadian political scene. Except I'm not sure whether it's madness or IDIOCY.

The Liberals accuse the NDP of caving. Even though they did the same thing 79 times in a row... for exactly the same reason.

Ignatieff joins the "Socialist/Separatist Coalition."

Not because he wants to help the unemployed. But so he can bring down the government sooner. Force the NDP to fight an election it can't afford.

And he can't win.

But could lose badly.....and hand Harper a MAJORITY.

Huh? What's wrong with this picture?

Look NOBODY wants to see these hideous Cons toppled more than I do. But whatever happened to you don't CHOOSE to fight an election unless you can win it ?

And if you choose to fight it anyway, what's the difference between a Liberal and a lemming?

Because here's the hard and ugly truth: Ignatieff's message is falling flat and his numbers are going south. Harper has the wind in his sails. Launching an election before letting out some of that air, could be a disastrous mistake.

One of the worst mistakes in Canadian history. Period.

Oh boy. Lucky I went to the beach eh?

Because talking politics with my dog always clears my mind. Makes me feel like a genius.

And this is how I see it.

Unless we get our act together. Focus all our attacks on the REAL enemy. And choose the right time to strike. We could wake up in the darkness of November.

In a country we don't recognize.

---------------------------------------------------------

P.S. One more thing.....

Gimme a parachute .....and order a lot of them body bags.

Because I fear we're going to need them....

The Charge of the Iggy Brigade

Damn. I can't believe somebody beat me to this one.

Theirs not to make reply,

Theirs not to reason why,

Theirs but to do and die...

But I guess it was OBVIOUS. And I only hope it can restrain the Iggy Brigade from charging madly up the hill into the mouths of those Con Cannons...and end up giving Stephen Harper a majority he can use to destroy this country.

Because let's not kid ourselves that's what could happen if we go now. Ignatieff's decision to oppose every Con bill no matter what's in it ....instead of picking his spot.... is bad politics and needlessly reckless.

The timing sucks. The message is falling flat.

The polls are horrible.

Stephen Harper is viewed as twice as trustworthy as Michael Ignatieff (31 to 14) and a third more competent (36 to 20) and more future-Canada-visionary (32 to 20), which gives him a final Nanodex score of 99 to just 54 for Ignatieff, and 40 for Jack Layton.

just 35% of Liberal voters picked Ignatieff as “most trustworthy,” with 15% choosing Harper and 13% who like the cut of that Layton jib. Compare that to the 71% of Conservatives, 64% of Bloc supporters and 45% of New Democrats who back their respective party leaders on the trust question.

And Stephen Harper is holding all the cards right now, hosing the country with our tax dollars. And just waiting to trigger an election and blame the other parties ......so he can make the argument he NEEDS a majority.

Their secret agenda, then, is electoral not ideological. The key to winning any fall election is to pretend they don't want it.

Exactly. Which is why I think the Liberals should just cool their jets. Thank the Bloc for giving them a bit more time to prepare and sell their message.

Concentrate on firing their cannons at targets like this one.

As detailed yesterday, Gerard Kennedy, the party's infrastructure critic, has unearthed statistics that suggest the bulk of the stimulus money is - sharp intake of breath - finding its way to Conservative ridings.

Softening up the Cons....instead of madly attacking the NDP

When we face a common threat, share common values, and Canada is in mortal danger .

You know nobody but NOBODY wants Stephen Harper gone as much as I do. And if Ignatieff manages to save Canada...instead of torching it on the bonfire of his vanity...I'll be really really happy.

But the road to hell is paved with good intentions. There are many ways to lose a country eh?

And stoopidity shouldn't be one of them....

Ignatieff and the Election Rabbit Hole

Well I missed most of Question Period, but I saw enough to convince me that we won't be having an election next week.

As soon as I saw the Bloc guy claim the reno money scam was the Bloc's idea I knew the game was up. Duh.

So why is Iggy attacking Jack?

When he should be kissing his ass for stopping him from jumping into the election rabbit hole too soon, and risking leaving us with a Harper majority...and four years of darkness. Which would be worse than what we've got.

Because the timing is all wrong. It's still too sunny in Canada. The stock market casino is making people feel plummy about the economy. The Cons have been hosing the country with money. The polls are crummy. Harper can make the don't rock the boat argument...and get away with it.

But wait a few months and all of that could change. Hundreds of thousands of Canadians will start falling off E.I.... looking for jobs that don't exist anymore. The damage to the real economy will be revealed. People will be much sicker of Harper than they are now.

And of course because it will be cold and grey and miserable their mood should be more punishing.

A week short of its official start, fall has arrived in Ottawa. The leaves on Parliament Hill are turning yellow. The faces inside the House of Commons are red. The voices are shouty. The Prime Minister’s pointy finger is once more unfurled, steady and strong and accusatory. Summer is gone. The air will soon grow cold and punishing.

I couldn't read the whole article because just watching Question Period is painful enough. But I thought that first paragraph was prescient.

And I'm surprised Ignatieff hasn't figured that one out.

You know.... Napoleon... Russia.... WINTER...

Now wouldn't THAT be better than diving into a rabbit hole and hoping for the best ?

Look we all agree the Con tyrant must go. But in politics as in war timing is important.

A Canadian winter is a mighty weapon eh?

So look before you JUMP...

Stephen Harper and the Road Runner

As Great Batty Leader flaps around pretending he doesn't want an election.

While going on a vote buying binge with OUR tax money.

And the Liberals pretend they want an election...while strapping on their bright red life jackets.

And everybody waits to see whether Jack is going to make a deal.

Not that it will make any difference.

Harper, according to some of his advisers, believes Layton is now angling to do the same thing to him that Layton did to Martin: extract concessions to advance the NDP agenda, then withdraw that support and campaign on the party’s achievements in advancing that agenda.

Darrell Bricker, president of pollster Ipsos Reid, says Layton’s strategy was a good one for 2005 — but it won’t work now. “He has to have somebody like Martin who’s afraid to go to the people,” Bricker said. “The problem he’s got with Harper is that Harper probably wants an election.”

I just want to say I still think the good guys can win. Just like this guy does.

Bottom line, isn't it true that most Canadians have had a chance to see the Harper Conservatives in action, and few are passionately happy with the government they are getting, or excited about the agenda on offer. That only the Conservative core would likely dispute whether Canada "can do better." And that people don't yet know Mr. Ignatieff, and still don't love Mr. Harper.

Because ANYTHING can happen in an election eh?

The Con bat coyote may think he's finally going to get his majority.

And eat us.

But we'll SHOW him...

Of course if the timing is all wrong, and we're not as organized as the Cons, and vote buying works, and Great Ugly Leader gets a MAJORITY.

I'll be REALLY annoyed.

Beep.Beep. Iggy you idiot.

How do you like my t-shirt ?
