Stephen Harper and the Fascist State of Alberia
Uh oh. Duck and cover. It looks as if Great Oil Pimp Leader is trying to whip us into a nationalistic frenzy, by demanding that the United States stop treating us like a national park.
Any decision on developments such as the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline should be left to Canadians, Prime Minister Stephen Harper says.
"Just because certain people in the United States would like to see Canada be one giant national park for the northern half of North America, I don't think that's part of what our review process is all about."
Or ELSE ....

Dr Strangelove and the Oil Pipeline
Well in case anyone didn't understand why the Harper Cons are calling native people and environmentalists "radicals" and "foreign interests."
Leave it up to Tom "Strangelove" Flanagan to explain Big Oil's plan for Total World Domination.
The branding of opponents as "radicals" is part of a strategy to make sure the pipeline gets built, argues Tom Flanagan, Prime Minister Stephen Harper's former chief of staff and an expert on aboriginal issues.
Flanagan said there is a concerted world-wide attack against the oil industry."Shrugging it off, I don't think, is good enough anymore. It's a battle and you have to start pushing back."
Which is at least refreshingly honest eh? Big Oil Uber Alles. But unfortunately, in the case of Canada, The Plan is tragically flawed.

Crude Awakening and the Oil Wars

In a world drunk with oil it's sometimes easier to worry about global warming...and do nothing.
Or squawk about the price of our cheap gas.
Than imagine what could happen to us all when the oil starts to runout.
So this frightening new movie should help.
Here's an excerpt...
In a country that loves its cars...and has a big black oil hole in Alberta that can be seen from outer space...there are so many things to think about.
But three things stand out for me.
One...all it took was 250 years of insane greed to consume the most valuable energy resource the world ever had...without giving a second thought about the plight of all the generations that will follow us.
Two...that if you think the oil wars of today are bad enough. You ain't seen nothing yet.
And three...if we want to save the children who will be born tomorrow from growing up in a very scary world...it's going to take more than a change of oil pimp governments.
It's going to take a revolutionary change in the way we live. And the courage to demand revolutionary political change even if it hurts us.
And I just don't see that happening. We love our cars and our way of life too much. Crazy religion tells us that it doesn't matter what happens to our beautiful planet...because heaven is BETTER.
What we don't think about won't hurt us. May the children forgive us. We're just poor oil junkies. Life is too short.
So let's just party on.
What I love about that Daft Punk video...apart from the music... is that it was put together from more than 100 mini-DV tapes shot by their fans.
Isn't it amazing what we can do when people work together to make something happen?
Isn't it scary what could happen if we don't ?

Iraq and the Hanging Gardens of Halliburton

You know how I feel about religion. But when I looked at these two photographs I couldn't help but feel sad. Not just because the Imam al-Askari shrine is a sacred place for so many people. Or because the bombing could unleash another brutal round of sectarian killings.
But because it was such a beautiful building, and part of Iraq's history. And now it's just another bit of its past being slowly blasted to rubble.
One of Iraq’s most sacred Shiite shrines, the Imam al-Askari mosque in Samarra, was attacked and severely damaged again today, just over a year after a previous attack on the site unleashed a tide of sectarian bloodletting across the country.
The Americans promised to protect it but they couldn't. They promised to rebuild it after the last attack but they didn't. They just didn't care enough...right from the beginning.
Not only did they stand by in the first days of the invasion and allow the priceless treasures of the National Museum to be looted.
Now they're turning the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

Into the Hanging Gardens of Halliburton.
the 2,500-year-old brick pavement to the Ishtar Gate was smashed by tanks and the gate itself damaged. The archaeology-rich subsoil was bulldozed to fill sandbags, and large areas covered in compacted gravel for helipads and car parks. Babylon is being rendered archaeologically barren
While armies of looters work unmolested...
Outside the capital some 10,000 sites of incomparable importance to the history of western civilisation, barely 20% yet excavated, are being looted as systematically as was the museum in 2003
And ancient cities are wiped off the map..
The remains of the 2000BC cities of Isin and Shurnpak appear to have vanished: pictures show them replaced by a desert of badger holes created by an army of some 300 looters
What an unforgivable crime. As Jenkins points out even Hitler protected the Louvre. But then the Bush Cheney criminals didn't care about Iraq's past. All they wanted was its oil.
Unfortunately for them they forgot that when you turn your back on the past it has a nasty habit of turning around and biting you.
They forgot that Iraq was an artificial country created by the British. A ticking time bomb waiting to explode.
And they forgot that all over the Arab world Iraq is known as the country of sahel.
Perhaps no fact is more revealing about Iraq's history than this: The Iraqis have a word that means to utterly defeat and humiliate someone by dragging his corpse through the streets. The word is sahel....
Listen to Iraqis engaged in the fight, and you realize they are far from exhausted by the war. Many say this is only the beginning....
Of all the countries in the world they had to invade that one...
And at the end of four years of war what are they left with? A ruined country with a present of horror and destruction....a future of civil war...and a glorious past that is slowly being destroyed.
Welcome to sahel. Welcome to hell. They can try all they can to excuse what they have done.
But history will never forgive them...

Lebanon, Bush, and the Sunni-Shia War

As the fighting rages in Lebanon...Robert Fisk dodges bullets and asks some disturbing questions. Who are these mysterious Sunni fanatics battling the Lebanese army? What are they up to and what does it all mean?
And who were the dead men I saw yesterday, perforated by bullets, partly torn open by grenades? Silent testimony is all we receive from the dead. One of them had big eyes above his fluffy beard, eyes which stared at us and at the police who jeered at his corpse. I wonder if they will not come to haunt us soon...
And Seymour Hersh provides an equally disturbing answer. The Saudis and the Bush regime are their backers.
"We're in the business of supporting the Sunnis anywhere we can against the Shia. ... "We're in the business of creating ... sectarian violence." And he describes the scheme of funding Fatah al-Islam as "a covert program we joined in with the Saudis as part of a bigger, broader program of doing everything we could to stop the spread of the Shia world...
In other words to curb the rising power of Iran, which it created by eliminating its traditional enemies Saddam and the Taliban...and by turning Iraq into a Shia Islamic Republic...and by allowing Israel to turn Hezbollah into Lebanese heroes...the Bush regime is not only taking sides in a religious war. It's actually encouraging it.
To divide and conquer in the name of oil.....and destroy the Shia Crescent.
If the Bush administration is successful in its current efforts to divide Islam by pitting Shi’ites against Sunnis it will revitalize the old colonial tactic of divide and conquer, and maintain the domination of the Middle East by authoritarian elites allied with the U.S. and the international energy industry..
But first they have to whack Iran. Remember that movie that had its release date delayed?

It's back in production and coming soon.
If Iran is to blame for EVERYTHING how long will it be before it is bombed?
Which will only unleash another wave of deranged terrorists upon us and make us more vulnerable rather than safer. Is that crazy or what?
Which reminds me...you know that story about the young woman who was stoned to death in Iraq that I wrote about the other night? In a post about that other religious fanatic Tony Blair.

Well now there's a video. If you can bear to watch it.
If not the clip from Hotel Rwanda just about says it all.
About the savagery human beings are capable of inflicting against each other in the name of religion or tribalism or whatever. And the dangers of turning one group against another. And setting the beasts of genocide loose.
When will we ever learn?

The Chimp, the Chinese and the Coming Oil War

It didn't surprise me a bit to hear Chimp Bush call tonight for a twenty per cent cut in U.S. oil consumption. Although it does defy belief. A Texas pimp for Big Oil calling on Americans to cool their jets. Isn't that like a fox claiming he wants to save the chickens?
What really did surprise and shock me was what little play in Canada this story got.
U.S.and Canadian oil executives and government officials met for a two-day oil summit in Houston in January 2006 and made plans for a "fivefold expansion" in oilsands production in a relatively "short time span," according to minutes of the meeting obtained by the CBC's French-language network, Radio-Canada.
Talk about making Alberta the oil whore of Amerika. Talk about selling out the energy interests of Canada. Chimp Bush and Dickhead Cheney may want to reduce Amerika's dependence on Middle East oil. But they're counting on Canada to make up the difference. Big time.
We're already pumping more oil into the pig than anyone else. Now they want even more. One day they'll want it all...
But surely what the Chimp's speech, and the little Texas Sellout do make abundantly clear...... to even the dummest of Canadians...... is how desperate the United States is to get its paws on as many oil sources as possible. Before reserves start to decline. And before others get their mitts on them first.
Like the Chinese for example..... Or did you think that this story had nothing to do with all of the above?
Think again.....
After the Americans, the Chinese are the oil pigs of the world. And they're getting thirstier and thirstier.Which as oil reserves can't keep up with demand...will eventually place them on a collision course with the U.S.
"You have two powers competing over the same sandbox.... as a country of China's size grows, there will be a moment when the moment of reckoning comes....."
Since seventy percent of known crude oil supplies are in five countries in the Persian Gulf region ......guess where the Chinese will eventually have to be? As well as off the coast of Africa...and maybe off the coast of Venezuela. To do that they need a modern deep sea navy. If you don't think they're serious about that. Just check out this video.
Ok they still have a long way to go .... but you don't need much of an imagination to see what the future could look like.
By the time Chimp Bush's target of 2017 rolls around the Big Chinese Machine will be starting to run out of gas. Imagine millions of unemployed workers. Or millions of people with cars who can't afford to drive them. Add to that the forty million bachelors who will never be able to find a woman to marry or whatever...and you can see why the Chinese not only need all that black stuff. Heck they might even need a war....
So here's the bottom line. Unless we take drastic action to reduce the planet's dependence on oil. And move into a post-oil economy. And do it fast. We won't just have to worry about global warming frying our world.
We'll also have to worry about frying ourselves....

Which leaves me with one haunting question....
Why do so many Canadians still not understand that Stephen Harper and his Alberta oil pimps are the worst possible government we could have during these dangerous times?
Don't they understand that unless these yankee lovin' traitors are driven from power soon. Not only will they sell us out to the Amerikans. Not only will they destroy our country.
They'll also help destroy the world...

UPDATE:
The Harper neocon oil pimps have complained about the Radio Canada story.
Notice how they don't defend the sellout. They only claim the meeting wasn't secret.
If it wasn't secret why did it take a year to get out? Something tells me the filthy ReformCons are really sensitive about this story. Remind me to keep drilling that nerve...
