A lot of people in this country seem to believe that when we defeated Stephen Harper we sent the Con vampire to his political coffin, with a wooden stake through his heart.
But they couldn't be more wrong.
The monster may be hiding in the shadows, but he's very much alive, or undead.
And the Cons are still the Harper Party...
It's a foul anti-union bill worthy of a Banana Republic or a tea bagger place like Alabama.
It would strip unions of their privacy rights, bury them in paperwork, and cripple their ability to defend Canadian workers.
It was introduced by the obscure Con backbencher Russ Hiebert in 2011.
And all but gutted in the Senate last year.
But the monstrous Bill C-377 still lives, because as Tim Harper writes, its real daddy is Stephen Harper himself.
He is not supposed to call an election until October 19, 2015 according to his own fixed-date election law.
But everybody knows that Stephen Harper won't hesitate to hold one if and when it suits him.
The question is what excuse will he use to trigger an election?
And could it be a clash with the federal public service unions?
I haven't written about Tim Hudak for a while because quite frankly I thought his Cons would have got rid of him by now. Since he is the best thing the Ontario Liberals and the NDP have going for them.
And he is a real LOSER.
But I see he has been calling himself a "winner" after the by-elections in Thornhill and Niagara Falls.
Even though his party's loss in Niagara Falls, the riding next door to his own, was a HUMILIATING defeat.
And this makes him sound like a MORON.
When I think about what historians will say about the rule of the mad king Harper and the lost years of The Great Darkness, I think it will probably be something like this:
Canadians had never seen anything like him, so they didn't recognize the danger, and by the time they did it was too late. He had numbed them, or muzzled them, into a state of paralysis.
For although he was totally insane, there was method to his madness.
And it was contagious.
I know why they called her the Iron Lady. May she rust in peace. I know why she's the patron saint of Stephen Harper's Con regime.
I know why she waged war on the miners of Britain
So she could smash the unions and Thatcherize her country, like the Cons would Harperize this one.
But who knew that ghastly right-wing monster was prepared to use the army?
