As you may know I lost my respect for the Senate long ago, during the days when Stephen Harper ruled the roost.
And those stuffed turkeys couldn't kiss his ass enough.
And although Justin Trudeau allowed them to become independent, they're still gobbling like crazy.
And the ghosts of Harper past still haunt the place.
When I saw Linda Frum had caused a flap on Twitter by trying to defend the indefensible Unfair Elections Act, all kind of thoughts flew into my mind.
How could somebody so dumb be a Senator? Can I be one?
And lucky for her she only made a fool out of herself on Twitter.
Where everyone forgets what anyone said the day before.
But sadly I see, she couldn't leave dumb alone.
I must admit Justin Trudeau's move to boot the Liberal senators from his caucus caught me by surprise, and it is certainly a bold one.
Justin Trudeau has dissolved a vital bond between senators and the Liberal Party that appointed them, expelling dozens of members of his caucus in a dramatic attempt to reshape the Senate without a constitutional debate.
It makes Trudeau look more decisive, it steals some of Tom Mulcair's thunder on the Senate issue, as well as the original idea. It might help shield the Liberals a bit from an upcoming audit of Senate expenses. And it places Stephen Harper in a difficult situation.
More than four years later I can still remember how frightened Stephen Harper looked.
The Great Canadian Coalition was threatening to remove him from power. And the people were in the streets.
He was scared, he was desperate. But in the end he survived. The Governor General gave him what he wanted. He was able to kill the idea of a coalition by making it sound like a separatist plot to take over Canada.
But now all these years later, it has come back to haunt him.
Wherever you went in Toronto today you couldn't get away from Rob Ford.
Everybody was talking about him eh?
Wondering whether he's a crack head, or just plain crazy.
So I wasn't really surprised to find him waiting for me on my way home.
And as I stared at this ghastly apparition, I could almost hear him screaming " Somebody get me that !@#!! TAPE.
Golly. When I compared the Harper Cons to a cult last night, I forgot to mention one thing eh?
They're are a cult. But they are strongly influenced by The Sopranos .
Where if you get in financial trouble, Tony tells you to go see Vinnie in the back room, and he'll cut you some slack.
Or in the case of the Harper mob, you go to see Nigel at the PMO, and he'll cut you a big cheque.
If you've ever seen the movie The Fall of the Roman Empire, the low budget version, you'll remember that this scene comes pretty close to the end.
With the Empire collapsing under the weight of its own corruption.
The Mad Emperor facing a rebellion in his own ranks.
And the enemy at the gates.
And so it must have seemed to Stephen Harper today, a living, breathing, Roman nightmare.
Gosh. When I watched Question Period today I wasn't sure whether I should call the fire department or the bomb disposal team.
For as you can see from this thermal image, Great Angry Leader was practically glowing in the dark, and threatening to blow up.
And of course it was the Senate, his horrible nightmare that just keeps getting scarier and scarier.
For first there was Duffy, then there was Brazeau. And since today was Wednesday it had to be Wallin.
OK. So I was wrong.
When Christy Clark became the latest Con stooge to denounce Thomas Mulcair, for simply pointing out that the Dutch Disease is killing our manufacturing sector, I said it could only mean one thing.
Big Oil and its Con puppets were scraping the bottom of the barrel.
But I forgot I was living in the sinister petro state of Harperland.
Where the bottom of the dirty oil barrel goes all the way to China.
And I forgot about the Con Senate...
