Stephen Harper and the Panama Connection

In a post earlier today, I noted that the Cons were playing down the Panama Papers scandal which is rocking the world.

And that Rona Ambrose hadn't said a single word about it.

I attributed this to Stephen Harper's other tax scandals.

But there is also another reason.

The Canada Panama Free Trade Agreement.

Dean Del Mastro Finally Goes to the Big House

He claimed he was totally innocent.

When a judge said he wasn't, he said he didn't share her opinion.

But sadly for him, the judge had the last opinion.

And Dean Del Mastro is finally going to jail.

Is Justin Trudeau's Political Honeymoon Finally Over?

Oh well, I suppose it couldn't last forever.

Justin Trudeau couldn't continue to reach new heights of popularity.

Without having to wear an oxygen mask.

So it seems that his long political honeymoon may finally be over.

The Panama Papers and the Tax Scandals of Stephen Harper

I'm glad to see that the Liberal government is vowing to go after those involved in the Panama Papers' scandal.

Revenue Minister Diane Lebouthillier is vowing to investigate whether some Canadians used a Panamanian law firm, shell companies and offshore bank accounts to evade Canadian taxes, following one of the biggest leaks of confidential records in history.

“The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will initiate risk assessments and, where appropriate, audit activities, based on the information that can be obtained from this data and from its treaty partners,” said ChloĆ© Luciani-Girouard, press secretary to Lebouthillier.

And hopefully after that they can investigate the CRA, and the tax scandals of the Harper regime.

The Greedy One Percent and the Moral Message of Bernie Sanders

I remember seeing a lot of signs like those  during the heady days of the Occupy movement.

Back in the days when everything seemed possible, and it looked like the beginning of a revolution.

But of course it didn't happen, the movement was brutally put down, and seemed to fade away. Even as the rich grew richer, and the poor grew poorer.

But you can't kill an idea or a movement whose time has come.

And the Occupy dreamers were right, capitalism doesn't work.

How the MSM is Trying to Marginalize Bernie Sanders

I haven't the slightest doubt that when future generations look back at the 2016 race for the White House, they will easily understand that Bernie Sander's campaign was the most historically significant.

For having heralded the beginning of a second American Revolution.

But if you read or watch the way the American MSM is covering the presidential nomination campaign, you'd never know it.

For it's almost all about Donald Trump.

Will Tom Mulcair Blow Up the NDP?

It's looking more and more like Tom Mulcair will survive his leadership review. Or at least get a two year reprieve.

New Democratic Party Leader Tom Mulcair should have two years to rebuild the party’s fortunes before being replaced, but that could come sooner if he does poorly in next week’s leadership review, says one of Canada’s most powerful labor leaders.

But while Jerry Dias, a man who I respect, makes a reasonable case for not firing Mulcair.

I still don't believe that he's the man to renew the NDP...

Is Donald Trump's Campaign Heading for Disaster?

He's still standing. He's still leading the chorus line from Hell to the Republican nomination.

But Donald Trump is looking and sounding a lot less confident these days.

And with good reason.

It was a REALLY bad week.

Celebrating a Great Day in the Life of the New Canada

I suppose I could have asked for one more thing to make yesterday an even more perfect day.

I could have asked the Great Polar Bear God of the Great White North to make it stop raining, and make spring feel like spring not winter.

But that would have been greedy, because for me at least, yesterday was a great day to be living in the New Canada.

The NDP Review: Why I Believe Tom Mulcair Should Go

I haven't written anything about the NDP leadership review, because I know some of my NDP friends are still hurting from their disastrous election result. And I didn't want to re-open any wounds.

And also because I think Justin Trudeau is the best prime minister I have ever known, so it's not that I'm unhappy at the way that election worked out.

But I did vote for the NDP, I care about the future of that party.

So I think it's time to list some reasons why I think Tom Mulcair should go.
