We already knew that the brains of progressives and conservatives are wired differently. And that Cons have a larger fear gland Peering inside the brain with MRI scans, researchers at University College London found that self-described conservative students had a larger amygdala (link is external) than liberals. The amygdala is an almond-shaped structure deep in the brain that is active during states of fear and anxiety. The conservative party is big on national defense and magnifies our perception of threat, whether of foreign aggressors, immigrants, terrorists, or invading ideologies like Communism. To a conservative, the world really is a frightening place. Which explains so much...
In my last post I wrote about how Stephen Harper had managed to dumb down Canada by killing the mandatory long-form census. So we're stumbling around in the dark, cities can't make any plans, and we don't even know what diseases are on the rise. But now it appears that the problem is even worse than I thought eh? There are apparently so many dumb people in Canada that Harper might even be able to win another bloody majority.
It’s important to bring to your attention, though, the fact that Sun News is providing a much-needed service in Canada. If you’ve got a devilish sense of humour, it is the most hilarious news channel you’ve ever, ever seen. You want weird comedy? You got it by the bucketful with these people.
And how about that Krista Erickson?
Recently, the channel’s Krista Erickson accosted dancer Margie Gillis on air about arts funding and tried to beat her up, verbally. This was comedy of the raw sort.
Erickson then went wacky. She waved her arms around in a lame attempt to mimic dance movement. Not a wizard at the arm ballet is Krista, believe me. She looked like the Martin Short character Ed Grimley getting excited. “This whole thing,” she barked, while frantically waved her arms, “Why does it cost $1.2-million over 13 years?” Then she shouted at Gillis to try to drown out the response.
And then it got worse.
Then Erickson went full-bore Monty Python. She denounced Gillis for being a dancer and having an opinion about Canada. The thrust of her argument was expressed as this: “We have lost more than 150 soldiers who have served in Afghanistan! They have put their lives on the line and, you know, it is, frankly, quite a serious business compared with people dancing on a stage!”
But my advice is take John Doyle's word for it, because life is too short, they pay him to watch this stuff. And he has some good advice for Erickson.
Memo to Krista Erickson: Get out of Sun News now. Before your name becomes synonymous with Monty Python-style TV gags and the hilarity that ensues. But, before you go, do that attempted arm ballet thing again. Man, that’s funny.
Because when they start laughing at you it's OVER.
And Ezra Levant is funny enough...
As for Kory Teneycke, my advice to him is to start polishing his resume, like he used to polish Stephen Harper's fleshy buttocks. Because this has to be the biggest bomb in the history of Canadian television.
And goodness knows who he'll hire next...
Sun Nooz TV, the lonely voice of the conservative movement.
Confession: This is a difficult time, what with everything turned upside down...
It used to be that if someone at a party assumed you knew who the NDP housing critic was, you took it as a sign it was time to leave. But this is now the shadow cabinet, and the party’s position on equalization or the oil sands actually matters, so it behooves the press gallery to treat the social democrats as the government-in-waiting that constitutional convention says they are.
But oh, it’s hard.
Because any more hysterical and corporate media than that, and Ibby would have to spread his fan like a peacock's ass, and ventilate himself like an aristocrat... on the way to the guillotine.
And as if those fowl noises weren't bad enough, now some Liberals are screeching: "Clarity!!! Clarity!!! The NDP are SEPARATIST STOOGES !!!"
Mummy. Mummy. I'm scared. Is Uncle Jack Layton really Uncle Jack Stalin or Uncle Jack Parizeau?
Gawd. As if that will help the cause of national unity.
As if that will save them....
Damn. Don't the Liberals ever take ANY of my free and friendly advice?
Unite against the common enemy or we'll all go down TOGETHER.
But of course I realize I'm just dreaming eh?
Seeing progressives unite in my life time would be as surprising as seeing Jason Kenney turn into the sugarplump fairy right before my horrified eyes. And offer to...um... marry me.
Or watching a boring old royal wedding. Vomit.
Turn into a real celebration...
No. No. It could never happen here.
This is boring old Canada where change is a threat. Something young and new is SCARY.
Probasco explained it was because he'd received a complaint from a parent. You see Freddie Mercury, the vocalist who had sung the original version of the song, was gay.
Oh boy. Thank goodness for the kids.
"I felt like the school was discriminating for sexual orientation and I felt it was wrong," Hight said Monday. "It's so stupid because there's nothing sexual in the song. There aren't even any cuss words.
And how fortunate that the Principal changed his mind. Sort of.
Let it not be said, however, that Principal Probasco is an unreasonable man. After much consideration, he decided to put the song back into the program! However, it will be an edited version of the song that omits "lyrics in one section about killing a man."
Because you know at Wasilla High preventing violence is a pressing concern...
And if he banned Freddie for being gay, who would be next I wonder? Cole Porter, Aaron Copland, or Peter Tchaikovsky?
Yes indeed. As I said before.
The kids are alright.
The Principal is an idiot. Who looks like Elton John.
And of course, whatever they say or whatever they do, they can't hurt Freddie anymore.
