Well it wasn't exactly the Royal Wedding eh? But the King of the Canadian Teabaggers wore pink, Mayor Princess Piggy was as pretty as a porker can be, and the redneck coronation was quite a spectacle.
“I’m wearing pinko for all the pinkos out there that ride bicycles and everything, I thought I’d get it in,”
“This is what you’ll be facing, Rob, with these left-wing pinkos — they scrape the bottom of the barrel.”
You know... when I first saw King Pinko place the golden bling of office around the meaty neck of his beloved, the first thing I thought of was ... oh boy....Julie Fantino is going to be soooooooooo jealous.
But then I thought what a ghastly act, what a hideous thug.
Cherry’s swaggering performance was that of a classic bully. He rallied the winners against the losers and will no doubt shrug off any complaints about his graceless appearance as more evidence of what humorless drips liberals are in the first place. But when you’re paid eight hundred thousand dollars a year to opine for a few minutes a week about hockey it’s a bit rich to show up at city hall in a pink suit and claim to be striking a blow for the underdog.
How low we have fallen, after five years of King Harper and his Americons.
And how dare King Pinko use the CANADIAN Broadcasting Corporation to promote his AMERICAN values, with OUR tax dollars !!!!!!!!!
By associating himself with right-wing politicians to the extent that he endorses them and makes pronouncements about who should govern this country, Cherry has associated Hockey Night in Canada and the CBC with right-wing political views.
Because let's face it eh? The flowery freak can drape himself in the Canadian flag, or wear a beaver on his head, or give himself a maple syrup enema, but I know an American teabagger when I see one.
And this King of the Teabaggers, Canada's Sarah Palin, isn't standing up for our Canadian values. He's DESTROYING them.
This isn’t just a game, any more than hockey is just a game. The country is being peddled a right-wing version of itself with dollops of help from the intimidated elites and artsy people who control the CBC. What a brutal black comedy this has become.
The bottom line? The CBC should be ashamed of itself. Canada is not a right-wing country.
King Pinko is stinko. And should be reined in or FIRED.
The redneck coronation was an abomination.
The one thousand bicycle brigade is on its way.
And if Mayor Piggy wants a war, he is going to get one...
I still can't believe it. Bruce McDonald of Canuck Attitude has died. They say he took his own life. And I'm so sad.
I started blogging five years ago after reading his blog. When I told him he was my mentor, he used to call me grasshopper. He was funny like that.
I never met him, but he always encouraged me. I shared his anger and his pain.
I was hunted, and I was alone. So terribly, desperately, alone. When you're thrown against the lockers and getting punched out and your home room teacher is 50 feet away chatting with the Principal and Vice Principal and you know they can see what's going on and they turn a blind eye, you know you're alone in this world. It was pretty clear to me by the time I was 14 that I either had to find a new way to get along in this world because the situation I was in wasn't repairable, or I had to die.
I didn't want to die, but I had reached a point where there didn't seem to be another option. I've been held at knife point, I've been stabbed, I've had a gun held to my head, I don't know if it was loaded or not, and I've literally been hung by my ankles from a highway overpass as I stared into the seemingly uncaring windshields passing underneath knowing that not one of them would report anything.
As I told him in the comments of that post, I didn't understand why it took him 28 years to come out. But after that I did.
Now I can't understand why he took his own life. But maybe I should. Because how can you hurt a a decent, gentle, gay man like Bruce for half his life, and not expect the damage to last forever?
Which is why the no surrender gay flag he designed, will fly in my sidebar as long as this blog lives. And why he will always be my inspiration.
And that's it, I can't write anything more about this tragedy tonight. I'm too sad. There will be other nights when I can and will.
Tonight I just want to say that our progressive blogging family has lost a gentle gay giant. That he was my mentor. That I will always be his blogging grasshopper.
And that he wasn't just sad and angry, he was warm, wonderfully rude, and very funny. And he had a favourite song.
There was snow on the ground, and freezing rain in the trees.
At the school in the shadow of the Mountain, it was the last day before the holiday break.
Until, without warning, everything changed forever...
Twenty-one years ago. Fourteen women dead. Killed just because they were women.
For decent Canadians it's a day of sorrow. For Stephen Harper's misogynist Cons it's just another day of shame.
"The reason I came to this was because the Conservatives were not part of it. If they would have been part of it, I would not have come."
"I don't think they have any right to commemorate Dec. 6 because they've done everything they can to destroy one of the main good things that came out of the tragedy, which is the gun control law."
For me, one of the few good things that happened this year was that we were able to save the gun registry. And preserve the precious legacy of those poor murdered women.
Because as Sabina Becker at News of the Restless reminds us, it's not good enough just to mourn them. Every day is their day. And the struggle continues.
You can run us down with horses, or gun us down with Rugers--we are still here. You can mouth platitudes while slyly trying to take away what we have won, but we won't let you. We are onto you. We reject your "respect" and your "appropriate" tokenism. We are still grieving, still raging and still fighting, because deep down in our blood, we know we are not equal yet.
And we are not going the hell away.
Yup. The struggle continues. I'm just an ordinary guy, with all the strengths and strutting weaknesses of my gender. Sometimes I can be great... on a bike. Sometimes I'm ridiculous. And I still get into too many fights.
But I hate guns. I believe in a kinder, gentler world where EVERYONE is equal. I won't be free until my sisters are.
As the Wikileaks truth guerrillas threaten to strike back at the Dark Empire.
I still want to know who in the Con regime is going to be arrested for leaking this memo?
Was the leak really a breach of security in a department that rarely gives up its diplomatic secrets?
Or was the document slipped to the National Post this week as part of an elaborate government damage-control strategy to pre-empt an even more damaging leak on the WikiLeaks website?
In an obvious attempt to try to distract Canadians from the devastating impact of this one.
In Karzai's view, the extra 7,000 troops promised by Nato allies as part of this year's troop surge were more trouble than they were worth.
The president joked that it would be better if the countries announced extra troops but did not send them, as their contributions were more of a "headache" than a help.
"Admiral Mullen noted the political significance of these troop commitments, despite the challenges they might entail."
Canada's real Wikileak bombshell.
Where after 153 lives lost, thousands wounded, and billions wasted. After handing over adults and children to be tortured. After killing people and destroying villages in order to save them. And getting nowhere.
Leaked memos show European Union President Herman Van Rompuy told the U.S. ambassador to Belgium, Howard Gutman, that the EU no longer believes in the success of the military mission in Afghanistan.
Van Rompuy, a former Belgian prime minister, suggested European troops are still being deployed only to bow to what the United States wants.
Wow. Rock me sock me. Who needs Sun TV and its right-wing garbage? When we got Don Cherry and Hockey night in CONada...
Yikes. What can you say eh? Except Don Cherry must be losing his marbles grapes. The CBC must have forgotten the difference between hockey and politics. And Stephen Taylor must be DESPERATE.
Winning an Order of Canada for spouting off like an AMERIKAN teabagger? OMG. What is Stephen saying ? TREASON !!!!!!!!
And how DARE he suggest that winning that precious Order of Canada bling, is as easy as becoming a Con Senator...
Because let's face it eh? If Puffy can become a Senator, and Cherry can win an Order of Canada, ANYONE can.
Moi, je refuse: I shall cough into my cupped hands until I lose the slight dexterity that requires and then I shall hack unashamedly into the public air. By that time, I expect, I will be well into the public farting years anyway, so I figure I might as well cough too.
As I approach those years, I still have no idea why it is that as one gets older, one grows more flatulent, but I do recognize it as a curious truth...
Have you ever read anything more revolting? It definitely belongs in the Ghastly Writing Hall of Fame. Right next to this one.
"Like a lepidopterist mounting a tough-skinned insect with a too blunt pin he screwed himself into her"
I mean it's bad enough having to read Crusty's columns. But the thought of her running around casually spreading disease, and becoming even MORE flatulent, is positively alarming.
The only thing more frightening than that would be if Puffy cut one in the Senate.
And brought the house down...so to speak.
Or if Julie Fantino looked even more like Mussolini...
OMG. Could somebody please give Crusty, and Don Cherry, and Mike Duffy, and Julian Fantino, a turkey blower...
Because enough is ENOUGH.
Oh boy. I don't know why there are so many right-wing buffoons running loose in this country.
But I do know this my fellow left-wing pinkos. The present may be STINKY.
OMG. I was so confused. When I first stared at this bizarre right-wing creature I just couldn't decide which was the head and which was the asshole.
Rob Ford, the alleged mayor of Toronto, or Don Cherry.
“People are sick of the elites and artsy people running the show. It’s time for some lunch pail, blue-collar people.”
And I figured it had to be Cherry, for being a loud tiresome redneck who thinks ignorance is a virtue.
While the grunting bully Ford is just naturally ignorant. And does what his brother tells him.
Exhibit A: Doug Ford. The Ward 2 councillor and older brother of the mayor is the supposed brains behind the operation, but he hasn’t been appointed to anything. Still, there he was getting his photo taken with the rest of the angry white men brigade in Ford’s cabinet and being scrummed by the media long after baby brother Rob had left the scene.
Question is, who made Doug Ford mayor?
But then I remembered. Wait a minute. Where had I seen that monstrous Con creature before?
And then, of course, it was brutally OBVIOUS...
The Con Tweedle doesn't have a head. It just has TWO assholes.
“I’m happy — it seems things are shifting around a bit to the right, with Julian Fantino getting elected, and Rob,” Cherry said.
Because let's face it eh? Only a Con asshole could call his opponents Nazis.
“ I think they [the Liberals] intended to hurt my campaign. The things they said ... a lot of them were absolute lies. They keep repeating [them]. I call it the Hitler Theory. You tell a lie often enough you hope that some people will believe it.
The moment they took his muzzle off.
Oh. My. Mussolini. Rock me sock me. What an IDIOT.
I mean what else can you say eh?
Except who made Don Cherry a politician?
The undisputed King of the Canadian teabaggers...
All hail The Flowered Messiah !!!!! Canada's Sarah Palin.
Golly. Do you think the CBC knows it has a rising Con star on its hands? And if so what is it planning to do about it ?
As for Rob Ford...he will do as he is told. If he stays sober. Either way it will be a disaster. And he'll be out of there in less than a year.
Julie Fantino will achieve the impossible: make Fascist talk both scary and HILARIOUS. And make the Con's law and order platform look even more ridiculous. In a sinister sort of way.
And of course, the lesson for the rest of us is, if we want to get our country back we will have to defeat them ALL.
OMG. I understand that Tom "Fatwa" Flanagan is having trouble trying not to strangle himself like his mentor Dr Strangelove.
And who can blame him eh? Now every time anyone mentions his name they'll think of Julian Assange.
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange says Tom Flanagan — a former senior adviser to the prime minister — should be charged with incitement to commit murder for calling for Assange's assassination.
And Strangelove's crazed comments.
Which only makes me wonder, since Flanagan is Stephen Harper's mentor, what Great Ugly Leader must be thinking. Because who could ever forget what Ezra Levant once said about their special relationship?
These days, Levant sees Flanagan and Harper more as “symbiotic partners.” But he does not disagree with a Globe and Mail report that once referred to Flanagan as the original godfather of the city’s conservative intellectual mafia. “I call him Don Tomaso,” Levant says. “He is the master strategist, the godfather — even of Harper.”
Yikes. Don Tomaso? The godfather? Oh well. That explains the fatwa contract.
Why is it that most people are not disturbed that American officials who apparently committed heinous crimes in the war on terror will not be investigated and held to account, while Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is hunted to the ends of the Earth?
Or explain why Cons are so disgusting.
Even in Canada, Flanagan wasn’t the first to advocate Mafia tactics. That honour goes to Ezra Levant, a columnist with the Sun newspaper chain and the man who distinguished himself on the Omar Khadr file by arguing it was unfortunate American soldiers didn’t grease the wounded 15-year-old on the spot. “They should have walked up to him and shot him like a mangy dog,” as Levant put it.
But then that's Con Canada eh?
Stephen Harper is a maniac.
Ezra Levant is an asshole.
Don Tomaso is Dr Strangelove...
And you know how that one ended...
Mama Mia. I mean Mama Fuhrer. I make you an offer you can't refuse.
The WikiLeaks Twitter account (@WikiLeaks) took a while to respond to the outage, but finally spoke up, stating "WikiLeaks, org domain killed by US everydns.net after claimed mass attacks."
They say British police are going to arrest Julian Assange later today. For the crime of not wearing a condom.
Golly. And Interpol put out a RED ALERT. Somebody must really hate him.
The actually-existing structure and strategy of the American empire remains a near-total mystery to those who foot the bill and whose children fight its wars. And that is the way the elite of America's unelected permanent state, perhaps the most powerful class of people on Earth, like it.
Some folks ask, "Who elected Julian Assange?" The answer is nobody did, which is, ironically, why WikiLeaks is able to improve the quality of our democracy. Of course, those jealously protective of the privileges of unaccountable state power will tell us that people will die if we can read their email, but so what? Different people, maybe more people, will die if we can't.
Yup. That's why it's a war. That's why the Empire is striking back. And that's why I agree with Digby.
My personal feeling is that any allegedly democratic government that is so hubristic that it will lie blatantly to the entire world in order to invade a country it has long wanted to invade probably needs a self-correcting mechanism. There are times when it's necessary that the powerful be shown that there are checks on its behavior, particularly when the systems normally designed to do that are breaking down. Now is one of those times.
They had it coming.
And besides, I've learned more in three days about what's really happening in this dangerous world, than I've learned in three years of reading or watching the MSM.
Gawd. Don't they know that the truth will set us free? The useful idiots.
The bad news? I'm afraid those who would keep us in the darkness of ignorance may use the Wikileaks furor as an excuse, to go after the internet.
To attempt to take a site like WikiLeaks down is to engage in a pointless game of whack-a-mole; no matter how many times you shut the site down, it will always pop up again elsewhere. And yet, WikiLeaks and sites like it do have another point of vulnerability, one that is increasingly being targeted by governments: their web addresses or urls.
The good news? We have been WARNED. So hopefully we won't let them take our freedoms away.
The even better news? Wikileaks is still alive. Somewhere.
If you think the ruling classes are foaming mad at the way Wikileaks has exposed their porky diplomatic secrets. If you think they're screaming squealing for blood now.
Imagine how angry they are going to be when the truth squad goes after big business.
Does Assange have unpublished, damaging documents on pharmaceutical companies? Yes, he says. Finance? Yes, many more than the single bank scandal we’ve been discussing. Energy? Plenty, on everything from BP to an Albanian oil firm that he says attempted to sabotage its competitors’ wells. Like informational IEDs, these damaging revelations can be detonated at will.
And imagine how loudly they are going to squeal, when it dawns on them that this could be the beginning of a digital revolution.
Thanks to the internet, we have come to expect a greater level of knowledge and participation in most areas of our lives. Politics, however, has remained resolutely unreconstructed. Politicians, see themselves as parents to a public they view as children – a public that cannot be trusted with the truth, nor with the real power that knowledge brings.
We are at a pivotal moment where the visionaries at the vanguard of a global digital age are clashing with those who are desperate to control what we know. WikiLeaks is the guerrilla front in a global movement for greater transparency and participation.
Then think what the rich and the powerful might do to try to crush that movement.
This is a revolution, and all revolutions create fear and uncertainty. Will we move to a New Information Enlightenment or will the backlash from those who seek to maintain control no matter the cost lead us to a new totalitarianism?
Or what they might do to the internet.
Yup. The stakes couldn't be higher. This Wiki War is part of a larger struggle.
The backlash will be brutal. But the future is now. Julian Assange is a prophet.
As you probably know I've always considered Tom Flanagan, Stephen Harper's former mentor, to be Canada's Dr Strangelove.
So his crazed final solution to the Wikileak's truth offensive isn't really surprising...
But it sure makes this Wikileak nugget even more ironic.
“The degree of comfort with which Canadian broadcast entities, including those financed by Canadian tax dollars, twist current events to feed longstanding negative images of the U.S. — and the extent to which the Canadian public seems willing to indulge in the feast — is noteworthy as an indication of the kind of insidious negative popular stereotyping we are increasingly up against in Canada...”
And humiliating.
A trove of diplomatic cables, obtained by WikiLeaks and made available to a number of publications, disclose a perception by American diplomats that Canadians “always carry a chip on their shoulder” in part because of a feeling that their country “is condemned to always play ‘Robin’ to the U.S. ‘Batman.’ ”
I mean can you believe that eh? When that batty villain Strangelove is spewing this American-style garbage ....on the CBC.And Canada has never been more American.
The Harper Cons are running on a law and order platform even though the crime rate is going down. And vowing to build new prisons, just like they do in the U.S.A.
We're following the Americans on climate change. Even though it's making us look like eco-criminals.
We're staying on in Afghanistan because they asked us told us. Even though our ambassador thinks the situation is hopeless.
We have a Prime Minister who think he's a President.
And thanks to him and his American Albertan Cons, we're ALWAYS playing the role of Robin...
I mean what more do these Americans want eh? That we should replace our tuques with top hats, put on our long underwear, pretend we're The Penguins, and tap dance to Yankee Doodle Dandy?
Don't worry. With Stephen Harper and his AmeriCons in power, sooner or later we will.
Oh boy. Remember when Canada was an independent country, and we didn't have to apologize for not being Amerikan?
Don't you miss this old ad?
And isn't it time we fought back?
Attention Harper, Strangelove, Con stooges, Yankee doodles.
