He talked up a storm after the Stoneman Douglas high school massacre. He talked about raising the age you can buy certain weapons. He said he wasn't afraid of the NRA.
But sadly Donald Trump WAS afraid of the NRA, and he folded like a cheap suit.
On Sunday night, Trump unveiled his proposal on guns in the wake of the Parkland, Florida, shooting that left 17 people dead. Guess what was left out of that proposal? Yup -- nothing on raising the age limit on the purchase of some types of weapons.
Claiming that his little hands are tied, when they are not. And that the public was against the idea, when in fact they favour it more than he does.
In a CNN/SSRS poll conducted late last month, 71% said they supported raising the age limit to 21 to buy any sort of gun -- a proposal that goes beyond even what Trump was advocating for in the open meeting he held with members of Congress on guns earlier this month.
So much for President Chicken.
At the CNN town hall the other night, Emma Gonzalez and other Parkland Massacre survivors were able to put the NRA's representative Dana Loesch on the spot.
Or tame the beast into submission.
But yesterday the NRA struck back with it's hideous leader Wayne LaPierre roaring like a maniac.
The head of the National Rifle Association, Wayne LaPierre, leveled a searing indictment on Thursday against liberal Democrats, the news media and political opportunists he said were joined together in a socialist plot to “eradicate all individual freedoms.”
Or a fascist.
And Dana Loesch never sounding so animal.
It was just a horrible coincidence, albeit a bloody one.
But only hours after I ran this post with the picture of Donald Trump brandishing an AR 15 rifle.
The same weapon was used to slaughter a large number of high school students in Florida.
A heavily armed young man barged into his former high school about an hour northwest of Miami on Wednesday, opening fire on terrified students and teachers and leaving a death toll of 17 that could rise even higher, the authorities said.
And Trump never looked more hypocritical.
Donald Trump's spy chiefs are telling him the Russians are already meddling in the midterm elections.
Robert Mueller and his FBI posse could come down on him at any moment.
His White House is being accused of covering up cases of domestic abuse even as his lawyer is now claiming he used his own money to pay off the porn star Stormy Daniels.
And many of his staffers are abandoning him in record numbers.
But the NRA is blaming the media for Trump's troubles, and is warning them to stop making fun of Trump.
Or else.
It's now been more than a week since the massacre in Las Vegas, and as you can imagine the NRA and their friends in Congress are feeling slightly beleaguered.
And have been keeping a very low profile.
It's just not that easy to explain how a guy with 42 guns could kill 58 people and injure more than 500 others.
But after taking some time to think it over, the NRA have now declared that nothing could have been done to prevent that tragedy.
But unfortunately for the NRA, and luckily for us, a Dutch TV program thinks it has found a way to help our poor neighbours.
It's going to a bleak holiday season for millions of Americans who still can't quite believe that Donald Trump is their president.
Just like we Canadians can't believe that's really Santa.
But of course Trump supporters will be celebrating, and so will the National Rifle Association.
Because they're hoping that he will be bringing them the best present EVER.
