The Slow Death of the Canadian Political Blogosphere

I must admit that when I flew to Scotland a few weeks ago to attend a friend's wedding, I had no idea that it would lead to my longest break from blogging in almost twelve years.

But then who knew that after a few wild days in Edinburgh, I would find myself in the rugged Orkney islands, listening to old tales about Vikings, giants, and evil dwarfs, rather than reading about the latest exploits of the insane monster Donald Trump.

Or that while racing back to Edinburgh my motorcycle would hit a patch of black ice and I would have to spend two days in hospital, and almost a week recovering at my family's home in the highlands.

Too battered to blog, and unaware that one of the aggregators that has published this blog for years had just died.

Scottish Independence and the Brexit Nightmare

In a few hours I'll be leaving the country and setting off for Edinburgh, to attend the wedding of one of my oldest friends.

And since I'll be racing between that city, and my family home in the north of Scotland, I probably won't have time to blog until I return.

Scott Pruitt: The Roasting of a Climate Change Denier

When Donald Trump is finally driven from office and put on trial, I hope that Scott Pruitt, the climate change denying head of the Environmental Protection Agency, joins him in the box.

For the way Pruitt and Trump are gutting the EPA, threatens to poison our air, our Great Lakes, and even our food.

And their all out assault on Obama's plan to fight global warming is simply beyond belief.

Why Are Donald Trump and His Gang Behaving So Strangely?

It was one of the weirdest scenes I've ever witnessed. Donald Trump leaving an executive order signing ceremony, without signing anything.

And his behaviour just keeps getting more and more bizarre, like these tweets he fired off this morning.

Which make absolutely no sense, unless he's desperately trying to deflect attention from a growing scandal that is threatening to destroy him.

Kevin O'Leary and the Death of the Harper Party

Kevin O'Leary is said to be leading the Con leadership race by a comfortable margin. Even though he won't commit to remaining Con leader, unless Canadians give him a majority.

This is balls to the wall. I can’t do what I need to do in this country without a majority mandate. I can’t cast out the virus of Trudeau without a majority mandate. … You have to go into the mandate with people understanding what you’re going to do.”

As he told the Hill Times the other day, he doesn't have the time to even THINK about failing.

“I don’t have contingency plans on failure. That doesn’t work. That’s not how I run my business. I set a goal; I achieve it, the majority of the time. That’s why I’m successful. I don’t waste my energy planning on failure.”

Or it seems the time to attend Con leadership debates.

Donald Trump and the Coming War With China

I'm sure we all remember the horrified look on Angela Merkel's face, when she came face to face with the madness of Donald Trump, two weeks ago.

Or the rude way he refused to shake her hand.

And that's before we found out that Trump reportedly handed Merkel a fake bill for more than $300 billion.

Well, get ready for something even worse.

Justin Trudeau and the Fight That Changed Canadian History

It's hard to believe, but it has now been five years since Justin Trudeau stepped into a boxing ring to take on the Con Senator Patrick Brazeau.

And although it was only a charity fight, and it lasted less than three rounds.

It was the biggest fight of Trudeau's career.

Will Mad Mike Flynn Bring Down Donald Trump?

For a while yesterday morning Donald Trump must have been channelling the good old  days, when Mad Mike Flynn used to get his Trumplings chanting "Lock her up, lock her up!!!"

For he seemed strangely happy that Flynn had offered to tell Congress what he knows about the Trump campaign's Russian connections, in exchange for immunity from prosecution.

Michael T. Flynn, the former national security adviser, has offered to be interviewed by House and Senate investigators who are examining the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia in exchange for immunity from prosecution, according to his lawyer and a congressional official.

And tweeted or bleated approvingly...
