Exposed !!!! Sun Media and the Bogus Story

Since I consider Kory Teneycke's Sun Media to be the squawking pie hole of Stephen Harper's PMO, this front page attracted my attention. Like a dead squirrel on the sidewalk would.

I really needed to know what  the Cons are telling us they're not telling us eh?

And when it comes to promoting xenophobia, what's the difference between a survey and a sample?

So it seems that this was not, in fact, a "secret government survey," but a review of a sampling of files from Sri Lankan nationals, some of whom were formerly found to be Convention refugees, who now want to sponsor family members to come to Canada. No weighting was done, and no claim has been made that the findings are representative of the total population. In fact, as far as CBSA is concerned, it "must be considered anecdotal in nature."

And of course, why are they doing this? Promoting xenophobia and  making it sound like a small group of desperate refugees is a huge problem. When it isn't.

Canada doesn’t have a Tamil “problem,” whatever critics of our refugee system may say about the arrival here of the cargo freighter MV Sun Sea with some 500 asylum-seekers. We processed 34,000 refugee claims last year; these arrivals won’t overtax the system.

And then I read this story.

Another headline topic was asylum-seekers: the 3000 or so people who claim refugee status in Australia every year, mostly after arriving by boat via Indonesia. This has been a powerful leitmotif in the national discourse since the 2001 election, which saw Howard score an historic victory after turning away the Tampa, a Norwegian tanker carrying shipwrecked Afghans and Iraqis.

A former minister in the Howard government, Abbott has shamelessly exploited the issue in recent weeks, vowing to “stop the boats”, and promising to re-open a Howard-era detention centre on the remote South Pacific island of Nauru.

And since it apparently worked for Abbott,  now I'm thinking could those morally degenerate Cons be trying to whip up a little xenophobia and racism for their own electoral purposes? Could they really go that low?

And the obvious answer is yes they could, because they would do ANYTHING to win votes.

And Fox News North would do ANYTHING to please them.

So they can get a juicy TV license.

Even though they clearly don't deserve one, since they can't tell the difference between a survey and a sample. And they're just a squawking pie hole of the PMO.

So now I'm thinking who does Stephen Harper think we are?

And how soon can we get rid of these monstrous Cons?

Before they corrupt us ALL...

Xenophobia, the Cons, and the Plight of the Tamils

Oh boy. If you want to feel isolated and on the wrong side of public opinion, try suggesting that not only should we give the Tamil boat people a fair hearing, we should welcome them with open arms.

Like I did yesterday.

Nobody at work agreed with me. It was scary. I could see their brows furrowing, and their teeth grinding. And smoke starting to come out of  their ears. You said WHAT??? Grind. Grind. Terrorists...queue jumpers...taking advantage of our generosity !!! Making us look like WIMPS !!!  No way eh? Send them back in chains, and seize the ship !!!!

Or sink it.

And then as if that wasn't bad enough, then came the decrepit old Con Vic Toews. Trying to stir up fear and xenophobia for electoral purposes.

By grunting through his fascist  zombie hole.

As if it was just some sort of criminal/terrorist plot, instead of the act of a group of desperate refugees. Fleeing the aftermath of a brutal war their side lost, and its bitter aftermath.

The failure to act has left victims of human rights violations with no access to justice, truth or reparations while hundreds of thousands of Sri Lankans displaced at the end of decades-long conflict languish in camps or struggle to rebuild their shattered communities.

The aftermath of a war that lest we forget, ended with a horrifying slaughter of Tamil fighters and civilians.

And cold blooded murder...

So if a group of Tamils was so desperate to get away from a place like that, that they jumped the queue, I don't blame them. Desperate people tend to do that.

And when they say this.

"We have come here, to this wonderful country Canada, to protect ourselves and our family members from the murders, disappearances and violence that still exist in our native country."

I believe they deserve the benefit of the doubt, and a fair hearing.

And I think the way the Cons are behaving is beneath contempt.

“It’s is not the first time that the Canadian government has whipped up public anxiety at the arrival of asylum-seekers,” said Myer Siemiatycki, a professor in immigration settlement studies at Ryerson University.

What’s playing out “is the sixth or the seventh sequel of some Grade B horror movie called Here Come the Boat People,” said Siemiatycki. “It’s the same thing every time … it’s tiresome, unworthy of Canada.”

Oh boy. What have these Cons done to us? And how soon can we get rid of them?

Hi Tamils I'm Simon.

Isn't freedom beautiful eh?

Welcome to Canada...

My Solution to the Tamil Boat People "Problem"

When I saw this picture of a Tamil child arriving in Canada I was both angered and moved.

Angered because of this.

“This afternoon, a vessel carrying 490 individuals claiming refugee status  including suspected human smugglers and terrorists  has entered our waters and the Canadian Government is taking action.

Some terrorists. Some threat.

Will we never learn?

And moved because I was about that child's age when I arrived in Canada. And I'll never forget looking out of the plane window and seeing Montreal and the mighty St Lawrence river for the first time.

Of course, at first I was homesick and lonely, I missed my little Scottish village and my friends. I was even a bit disappointed to discover there were no bears on Mount Royal. And that building an igloo wasn't as easy as I thought.

But later I could never thank my parents enough for bringing to this big beautiful country. So I can only hope that little kid's first sight of Canada was as wonderful as mine was.

And after reading this story.

And seeing how the Tamils in Sri Lanka are being confined in places that look like concentration camps...

I think I've found a solution to the Tamil Boat People "problem."

Why don't we keep the Tamils and deport the Nazis to Sri Lanka? Because we need  bigot apes in this country like we need a hole in the head... or Vic Toews.

And BTW since Toews was born in Paraguay, and insists on acting like a gauleiter.

Or a zombie...

What I want to know is who the hell let him in?

As for the newcomers spending their first days in what must be a strange new land  I would just like to say this to them:

I'm sorry you've suffered so much. It must have been a hellish voyage. I know you are probably lonely and scared by all those men with guns. And you will have to be careful because there really are bears in B.C. And rabid racists all over the country.

But I know how you feel. If I could hug you all I would.

Freedom is beautiful eh?

Welcome to Canada...
