When I think about what Stephen Harper and his sinister thugs might have been up to in Afghanistan. And how we'll never know what really happened, because the Cons have shutdown the judge's panel.
The Conservative government decided to shut down a panel responsible for vetting documents on the handling and treatment of Afghan detainees, a newly released letter indicates.
The June 15 letter from two former Supreme Court judges on the panel says they were advised by the government after the recent election “that it is unlikely” the document review process would be renewed, even though they had examined only an “initial” cache of records.
So the great document search into torture turned out to be nothing but a FARCE.
When I think about how most Canadians probably don't give a damn because they tuned out the Afghan War a long time ago. And the how the words "Canada" and "human rights" don't go together anymore.
I say thank goodness for Amnesty International, which is celebrating its fiftieth birthday.
I've always admired the organization. I tattooed its logo on my arm when I was fifteen. I love the way it fights for the rights of political prisoners all over the world. And how it champions all kinds of other human rights causes that would otherwise receive little or no attention.
From the rights of Gypsies to be treated with respect and dignity.
To the rights of girls in Nicaragua to live free from sexual violence.
Well I see that the tragic case of Omar Khadr is not just shaming our foul Con government, it's also embarrassing the Obama administration.
The Washington Post reported Saturday that the administration is actively seeking a plea agreement in Khadr’s case, fearful that trying a juvenile will “undermine the validity of military commissions.”
Even though the military commissions are nothing but kangaroo courts.
A U.S. special forces commander testified Saturday that he altered a post-battle report about the firefight where Canadian Omar Khadr was captured to correct his “historical” record, not because he had been pressured to do so.
An early version of Lt. Col. W.’s report stated that the person who had thrown the grenade had been killed, which would rule out Khadr as the suspect.
But in a near-identical report, the commander changed a single line to read that the grenade thrower did not die.
But Lt. Col. W’s testimony conflicts with another March 2004 report written by a commando identified only as OC-1, which states that after the grenade was thrown he shot two fighters – one fatally.
Omar Khadr could not have been the one who threw that grenade.
And this whole shabby case is just an attempt to conceal that the Special Forces soldier was killed by a grenade thrown by one of his own men. Because how else can you explain that Khadr is the only Taliban or Al Qaeda fighter ever charged with murder?
You know I've always wondered how that slight teenager managed to survive his horrifying wounds,the torture, the isolation, the loneliness. It must have been the hope that his own people would rescue him.
So I can only imagine how shattered he must have been when he realized that those callous CSIS agents who interrogated him weren't there to help him.
The day these photos were taken...from the hideous video of his interrogation.
Now I wonder whether he is still resisting the injustice of his situation, by refusing to attend the kangaroo court. Or whether he is finally losing hope, or succumbing to post traumatic depression, after suffering so much.
Or whether the war criminals at Guantanamo are trying to kill him.
Stephen Xenakis, a psychiatrist working with the defence, told reporters he examined Khadr Thursday, and found his condition to include high blood pressure.
``With his history of having the head wounds that he did, shrapnel still in his eyes, the clouding of the lens, a history of surgery - this is a condition that becomes urgent,'' Xenakis said.
And while this unbearable and never ending human rights horror story continues, I also wonder why Stephen Harper isn't capable of doing the right thing, and bringing this young Canadian home immediately...instead of prolonging his suffering.
Which in turn makes me wonder what is this cold, inhuman man who seems to enjoy the pain of others, is hiding about torture in Afghanistan? What has he done?
Because you know it's got to be MONSTROUS...
One week from now Canada will be on the edge of a constitutional crisis...and maybe even an election.
And this is how I want Canadians to think of him. So we can defeat him like we must.
Mr. Milliken can now look forward to a taste of the conservative anger machine that seemed to paralyze our Governor-General a year and a half ago. What will be said of our nation's Speaker on the openmouthsphere in the days to come? Not a Canadian? Tool of the separatists? Wants the terrorists to win? A crypto-socialist? Must be from Toronto?
It was also one of the most significant decisions in Canadian Parliamentary history, and Stephen Harper wasn't even there to hear it. Can you believe that? Talk about CONTEMPT.
No doubt he was watching it in his office, surrounded by his thuggish Con henchmen, swearing like a mob boss, and plotting his next move.
Because let's not kid ourselves, the danger of a snap election is still very real.
And let's never forget the kind of political monster we are dealing with. A power hungry ideologue desperate to implement his RepubliCon agenda, and change Canada beyond recognition.
A sinister religious fanatic who would put his extremist beliefs and those of his rabid base before the lives of poor women.
Even when pushing a proposal to save lives among those living in wretched faraway conditions as his signature accomplishment, Harper has found a way to set his government apart from the opposition parties
Given that he’s never seen parliamentary harmony he couldn’t inflame into political divisions, perhaps poisoning this motherhood initiative will end up a fitting Stephen Harper legacy after all.
The legacy of a twisted, tortured man who will do ANYTHING to smear his opponents.
Once he called Richard Colvin a Taliban dupe. Today his thugs are going after Frank Graves and the CBC.
Tomorrow he'll be going after the Speaker...
Oh yeah. The danger is very real. The next two weeks could determine the future of this country.
Organize, unite, prepare to attack Stephen Harper and his evil RepubliCons harder than ever. Because they are preparing to launch the greatest assault on our Parliamentary system this country has ever seen.
The culture war that some Canadians don't believe is happening, because as Doyle says they're too polite or something, is about to EXPLODE.
And two burning questions demand to be answered. Or scrawled on every wall in Canada.
How can such a loathsome regime call itself a Canadian government?
