Hallellujah. Praise Lord Harper. I see the ridiculous theocon Jason Kenney's Curry-in-a Hurry Crusade to recruit new immigrants to the Con cause is reaping its rewards.

With potentially devastating results for women's rights, gay rights, medicare, and the stability of this country.
A survey of visible minorities and immigrants done by the Canadian Election Study shows both groups tend to be more conservative than the rest of Canada on bedrock Canadian issues. Both groups, for example, are more likely to say it should be possible to pay for medical treatment and that getting an abortion should be more difficult. Visible minorities, a category that’s 84 per cent immigrant, are more likely to support private hospitals, lower taxes and paying parents individually rather than funding daycare.
Immigrants have always brought their old country attitudes with them. And they have always been used by the government in power. The difference is that this time they are being recruited into the Con culture war against other Canadians.
Instead of being told that in this country women and gay people are equal and free, Jason Kenney goes around telling them that they can hold on to their homophobia, or their beliefs that women are subordinate. Because if the Cons get a majority they will turn back the clock.
Gay marriage will be abolished along with all gay rights, bullied gay children in our schools will be bombarded with religious messages telling them they are evil and deserve to die. Women will be put in their place, and abortion will be so restricted, it will be easier for a man to have a baby.
Why do you think they have attacked women's rights from the moment they came to office? Why do you think Jason Kenney left any mention of gay rights out of the Canadian Citizenship Guide?
As I explained in that post, I believe that prospective immigrants should be told that in Canada women and gay people have equal rights. We have a culture of freedom and tolerance. And if they don't like that they shouldn't come.
I also believe that governments should help them to adapt to their new country, instead of using their old country beliefs as a weapon against those the Cons despise. Using them as foot soldiers in a culture war against the values we treasure. And will NEVER surrender.
Because if they don't there will be a backlash. The social fabric of this beautifully diverse and tolerant country will be torn apart. And just like in Holland xenophobes will have a field day.
The good news? The young will eventually save us.
Subir Mann, a 22-year-old student,came to Canada from The Punjab as a child. He says he supports same-sex marriage, even though his more traditional father has trouble with it.
“For me I think it’s important that gay people are considered equal,” he said. “Part of the reason I’m anti-Conservative is that they often mix religious issues with politics. That can be very dangerous.”
But will they make their presence felt before the Cons have set this country on fire?
Only two things are for sure eh? One...we need to stop treating immigration as a taboo subject, and take a long hard look at its impact.

If you are planning to spend March break vacationing in Jamaica, make sure you have plenty of life insurance. A police station in St Catherine was the scene of hostility yesterday after residents demanded their own brand of justice for four men who they believe are lovers.
Police reports are that about 5 p.m. the men were at home when one went to a nearby shop and persons started to call him 'fish'.
The man went and reported this to his friends who drove to the shop. They were attacked and their car damaged. They went to report the matter to the police, when a mob converged and demanded that they come out.
Because not only is it full of dangerous criminals, but it's also infested with homophobic zombies who believe that gay people don't have a right to exist. "We want them fi let out di bwoy dem mek wi deal wid dem business, in a cold cold time yah dem a wrap up in a de place," an irate woman screamed.
"A long time mi a notice sey dem a fish and we want them bad fi gi dem a proper beating," another woman said.
And that kind of anti-gay violence happens all the time. So now I've got a question: Do you think that some Jamaicans who want to emigrate to Canada might benefit from a Citizenship Guide that makes it clear that in this country gays and lesbians have the right to live in peace and dignity? Maybe eh? But of course Jason Kenney doesn't believe that, because that religious extremist is as homophobic as those murderous zombies. He has attacked and insulted gay people all his life. He appointed a homophobe to a refugee board to make sure that gays can't escape their killers.
And as Tabatha Southey points out, he even thinks including hockey cards in the Con Canada Guide is more important than mentioning gay rights. Imagine you were raised somewhere you'd be discriminated against or beaten senseless or risk untimely death because of your hockey-card collection – or that you yourself, while uninterested in collecting cards, beat other people in your homeland with impunity the second you discovered that they owned a deck.
Now imagine yourself reading that statement in our immigration guide: “Canadian children have collected hockey cards for generations.” Why, that would change everything, I believe. But then hockey cards don't BLEED. And even if others don't, we see it this way. By putting his evil ideology before the health and safety of gay Canadians Jason Kenney hasn't just written gays out of the history of their country. He has committed a monstrous act of aggression against an already persecuted minority.
He says he likes to see fear in the eyes of others. But why is Stephen Harper so afraid of the truth, and what dark secret is he hiding?
Tonight the CBC National is reporting allegations the Con government made the torture of Afghan detainees a deliberate policy. Which would make Harper and his political thugs WAR CRIMINALS.
"If these documents were released [in full], what they will show is that Canada partnered deliberately with the torturers in Afghanistan for the interrogation of detainees."
Which would explain why he shutdown Parliament. And make this stalling tactic even more outrageous.Because no retired judge has the power to tell Parliament what it can or cannot read.
Oh boy. It's hard to believe something so horrible could happen in Canada. But if it turned out to be true, would we really be surprised? When these hideous alien Cons have assaulted our precious Canadian values from the moment they came to office.
They attacked women by removing the word "equality" and destroying a national daycare program. They savaged their opponents like a pack of rabid animals. Nothing was too low for these hateful ideologues.
They went after feminist groups, and human rights organizations. They bullied poor Rémy Beauregard to death.
Never, ever, ever, forget how those bastard bullies treated that gentle, decent man. Or forget that only foul Cons could appoint a xenophobe and a homophobe to head a human rights organization.
Or how those crazy religious fanatics are going after gay and lesbian Canadians. Again.
Notably absent from an otherwise commendable document, however, was any reference to gay rights or equality rights. These are important omissions, particularly at a time when many immigrants are arriving from parts of the world where homosexuality is illegal and where discrimination is widely practised. New Canadians need to understand that while they may not immediately share Canada's sense of justice, the law protects certain groups from open prejudice. Even though they have a right to be treated with dignity and respect in their own country. Even though it could hurt them or cost them their lives.
Even though that kind of crazy bigotry could cost me mine.
In the last few days, after writing about the theocon conspiracy, I have been bombarded with ugly comments, and creepy veiled threats. Now some weirdo has been wandering around my neighbourhood asking people if they know where I live. And this evening when I took my dog for a walk in the woods nearby, I had the strange feeling I was being stalked.
Hey maybe I'm paranoid. And who could blame me eh? Living in Stephen Harper's Con Canada, the kind of place where paranoia can become a higher state of consciousness...as one grand old mama feminist once told me. And don't worry I am not afraid. I can defend myself. And when Sébastien gets home on Sunday, I'll feel totally safe again.
But all I ask brothers and sisters is that you fight these hideous hatemongering Cons like you've NEVER fought them before. Because the evil is now very close to the surface, and it's bubbling out like acid....and corroding our beautiful country. Organize, UNITE, fight them until these monstrous Cons are driven from power and we have our Canada back. Fight them, fight them, fight them, like I have always tried my best to do. And because I'm not afraid of them. And because it's Friday night. And because I love R.E.M. Fight them, fight them, fight them, until the day is done...

According to Sacramento-based CBS13, Ashburn was “was arrested for allegedly driving drunk after leaving Faces, a gay nightclub in midtown Sacramento, early Wednesday morning.
I am proud that this is the first citizenship guide that does mention gay and lesbian Canadians, unlike the one that it replaces.
The mention he's talking about...on page 26 of the Guide.

Instead of: In Canada gay people have the right to live in peace and dignity. In exactly the same number of words as that miserable little caption. And let's never forget this: Mr. Kenney responded that perhaps he has “a higher estimation than the member does about new Canadians” and that he does not believe “that new Canadians are potential gay-bashers.”
This particular point is perhaps interesting because the new citizenship guide does specifically warn that Canada does not tolerate “spousal abuse, ‘honour killings,’ female genital mutilation or other gender-based violence.”
Because violence against women is something to be warned against, but not violence against gays.
Oh boy. That's the LIMIT eh? La Kenney is not only a grubby homophobe, and a sinister theocon. He's also a dangerous idiot.

Well I see the Con hog Jason Kenney is squealing that he didn't have anything to do with exterminating , eliminating , wiping out gay Canadians from the ConCanada Guide.
Asked Wednesday why he blocked any information about same-sex marriage and charter rights protecting sexual orientation, Jason Kenney said: "I did not do such a thing. No, no, you are wrong."
And then running like a piglet.
The minister then disappeared into the Conservative caucus room in the Centre Block of Parliament Hill.
But then as Adam Radwanski points out this grubby porker homophobe lives in a world of mixed messages. First he claims the credit from his rabid base. And then he denies it.
But what he can never deny is that this decision is far more evil than even disappearing gay Canadians...or erasing them from history. After just forty years of freedom. Because it could result in more gay Canadians being hurt or MURDERED.
They did it for a reason. To stop young immigrant men, from homophobic backward countries, from attacking gay people or harrassing women. Even the misogynist Cons seem to recognize that women need to be protected by including stuff like this in the ConCanada Guide. "In Canada, men and women are equal under the law. Canada's openness and generosity do not extend to barbaric cultural practices that tolerate spousal abuse, ‘honour killings,' female genital mutilation or other gender-based violence."
But they couldn't do the same for gay people because they hate them so BARBARICALLY.
So now prospective immigrants won't get the message that gay people are entitled to live their lives in peace and dignity. So now every gay person in Canada will be in even MORE danger of being assaulted, hurt, or murdered. Of ending up in a pool of blood, just for who they are. Just for who they love.
Jason Kenney is a grubby homophobe, a religious thug, and a LIAR. For which he should be held in contempt by all decent people.
But when he puts his brutish Con ideology before the lives and the safety of more than a million Canadians, he deserves to be ARRESTED.
Wonder why we feel this way? Imagine the person you love the most ....with the back of their head caved in by a baseball bat. In a country with a bigot government where gay kids are already terrorized. And homophobes attack us and get away with it, over and over again.
