Andrew Scheer had hoped that the Con convention in Halifax would be a shiny affair, a glitzy political coming out ball.
Where he would introduce himself to the millions of Canadians who still don't know who he is, and seduce them with his new/nouveau "positive message."
And they would scream "Andy, Andy, we NEED you to be Prime Minister!!!
But then Maxime Bernier said he wasn't coming, and it all went horribly wrong.
It says something not very flattering about Andrew Scheer, that they still have to write his name in big letters behind him, for the benefit of all those Canadians who still don't know him from a hole in a wall.
But on the other hand that ignorance does allow Scheer to reimagine himself, as he did yesterday during his very long speech to the Con convention.
Where he tried to portray himself as a nice, humble, down to earth Ottawa boy, quietly competent and ready to govern.
Which needless to say didn't quite work.
As you can imagine, Andrew Scheer is looking a little beleaguered. Like a man on the edge of a cliff, or a nervous breakdown.
But then who can blame him? His big shiny Con convention is now less than a week away, and it's all going horribly wrong.
Maxime Bernier is making him look like a wimp. He just won't shut up.
Scheer is too cowardly to fire him.
And now to make matters even worse, it looks a lot like the Con clown Michelle Rempel may have finally gone over the deep end.
