Donald Trump: I Could Shoot Somebody and Still Be Popular

Lordy. If Donald Trump's head keeps swelling I'm afraid he is going to have to get a new comb over or caterpillar.

For there he was yesterday shooting his mouth off, trumpeting his lead over all the other Republican candidates.

And actually claiming that he could kill someone, and STILL not lose any votes.

A claim which couldn't be more deranged or delusional.

And should disqualify him from even thinking about running for President.

But sadly for some of his followers is probably true...

For as the great George Carlin once said:

"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups."

Or as I like to say, never underestimate the power of the CRAZY...

The ones who see the blowhard billionaire as some kind of messiah, come  to save them from the Mexicans, the Muslims, and the negro in the White House.

And I must admit the madness that is Amerika sometimes gives me nightmares...

Because I've been predicting the U.S. would go fascist since I was about twelve eh?

And every time I watch CNN these days, I feel that day has finally arrived.

But then I've also been waiting for the Democrats to take Trump apart with their attack ads if he is elected leader.

To shred him like a piƱata, and bring him and his teabaggers down in flames like the Hindenburg.

And in the meantime this new REPUBLICAN attack ad will do very nicely...

The ad was made by a so-called super PAC of establishment Republicans determined to bring down Trump before he brings down the Grand Old Party.

Because those establishment Republicans are now so desperate, that another billionaire Michael Bloomberg, is apparently preparing to run as an independent candidate.

Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire former mayor of New York City, has told his aides to draw up plans for an independent campaign for the U.S. presidency, the New York Times reported on Saturday.

Bloomberg has advised friends and associates that he would be willing to spend at least $1 billion of his own money on a campaign for the November 2016 election, the Times said, citing sources briefed on the former mayor’s thinking.

So you can see what lies ahead for Trump, if Sarah Palin doesn't blow him up first...

Hallelujah !!!

And all of this practically guarantees that the divided Republicans will crushed by the Democrats.

So while Trump can claim, as he did yesterday, that this is what the White House will look like a year from now...

Which tells you all you need to know about that crass vulgar demagogue.

It's just not going to happen.

Sorry Mr Monkey.

And neither will this nightmare...

The Cons of the world are running out of history.

Looking more like fascists every day.

Or more ridiculous and crazy.

And like the ones in this country, are heading for total destruction....

you can't say that his statement is delusional and then say it's probably true.

Thirty five years ago I regularly said "They will never elect Ronald Reagan President." I hope this isn't history repeating itself.

Are American's that desperate???Geeez Simon when ya consider the other choices in that list of Republican's I can see why Trump is leading.
On the other hand, who in their right mind would vote for Hilary Clinton? Add in Bill and there's enough bad baggage there for a 10 mile convoy of tractor trailor's.
I believe there's much more to why everyone is afraid of Trump other than his stupid comments. They are no worse than some of the stuff Georgie Bush or John McCain have said.Gonna be a wild interesting ride to November.

Hello Simon. I read a quote from Sinclair Lewis yesterday on a comment board: "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross." Smart guy.
This is the first time I've tried to post a comment anywhere, so wish me luck. I just discovered your blog 2 weeks before the election and I can't thank you enough for the laughs, and sometimes the tears. A couple of weeks ago I went back and started reading from Aug 1 and am now up to Oct 10 - one week out and there's no clear winner and you are doing your best to stop the infighting and put the focus back on Stevil. You sure have/publish intelligent commenters and you had/have your hands full.
Simon, I hail from 2 northern clans (Frazer's & Loutitt's) and I hope there's no ancient blood feud among us. Also hope you don't retire until at least after electoral reform is settled.

Yes Simon and his blog are truly awesome!

An excellent first post - look forward to your future comments.

hi thwap...I probably should have been clearer. Trump's statement is delusional, but so are SOME of his followers so they might forgive him. But even some in the Trump Nation would not, and most Americans would demand that he be locked up....

hi Kirby...I don't think history will repeat itself. Reagan may have been a senile old right-winger, but his appeal was much broader. If you remember his Morning in America ad, it was a much more moderate approach, and can't be compared to Trump's divisive appeal. At least I hope not, or I'll be relocating to Patagonia... ;)

hi anon...I think many Americans are desperate, they don't understand what's happening to the country they once knew, and they are looking for simple answers.
But yes, I don't think that Hillary is the best candidate the Democrats could choose, and although I'm cheering for Bernie Sanders I wonder whether he can rally most Americans behind him. So yes, it is going to be an interesting ride all the way to November...

hi anon...thanks for the link. I was wondering how long it would be before Tina Fey would be back. Now what we need is a really good Trump imitator...

Simon said...

hi Jolly Roger....well he is a member in good standing of the Billionaire's Club, so he probably is a member in good standing of the shadow government running America and the world into the ground. But I would encourage him to run, because if the RepubliCons run two candidates, they will all go down to the bottom of the sea...

hi Laurie...thank you, I'm glad you like my little blog. And yes I have always tried to unite progressives and get them to attack the Cons instead of each other. Which I have to say isn't easy, and I've got the scars to prove it. But I will keep trying, and I have no plans to retire until we bring in electoral reform and bury the Cons forever.
As for the clan question...I'm going to have to consult the bloodstained records of my ferocious clan before I can give you a definitive answer. But even if I discover that we have happily slaughtered each other, instead of uniting to fight the dastardly Sassenachs, I'll probably forgive you... :)

when you listen to the rhetoric from Trump and his teabagger types, it sounds a lot like a guy named Hitler. Just substitute the words, Mexican, Muslim, etc. for Jews and you have it all over again. Deporting 11 million people living in a country, gee I think Hitler did something like that in Europe.

Trump appeals to the same type of person some of the extremist mullahas appeal to. Different religions, same bullshit.

If Trump is elected Europe and some other countries will be faced with what I once read somewhere, the greatest challenge for the world will be managing the decline of the U.S.A. It will be much more difficult than the falling apart of the U.S.S.R. That, in my opinion, will be because of the number of privately held guns in the U.S.A. and the racism, whether overt or not.

if Trump is elected I do hope Canada has enough money to build that fence. we will need to keep the teabaggers out of our country. We should however be prepared to welcome millions of political, social, people of colour, GLTB, female, economic, and religious refugees.

's funny, we were just theorizing about "desperation"---only with regard the neo-right (I've abandoned "neo-liberal" and "neo-conservative" cuz neither neo is either), or conservatism in general, not just Americans. The common thread, though, is either group not understanding what's happening to their traditional social stratum of privilege--- and looking for simple answers. Chomsky observed that so-called "Tea Party" people aren't so much right-wing as white-wing. Feeding this anxiety is American MSM which has been salting commentary with the fact that whites will soon be a minority in the USA; the facts that this demographic prognosis is decades away and that, even then, white people will still be the largest ethnicity in the USA by far---just that it'll technically be an ethnically pluralistic state---don't do anything to assuage the fear this tidbit is intended to induce. "Whites in a minority?…that just can't be right"…the rhetoric has to be way right to achieve the desired effect. As the one-percenters have shown, the only acceptable remedy for minority-anxiety (at 1%, they should know) is secure possession of inordinate wealth. One of the few things neo-rightism has inherited from Toryism is this perverted sense of "fairness."

My dear old Ma (who calls me every Sun Day) brought up the "pendulum theory"---y'know, the one where it swings so far right, then back so far left with reassuring regularity---"Nothing's new," she says, "everything comes back around…" citing Victorian fashion (?); but I myself tend to view it a bit differently: the pendulum-theory might have worked during the relatively static world pre-globalization (which, let's say, began with Columbus), but it started to fail as quickly as the world was gobbled up until, near-finally, we have reached a completely new "frontier"---that is, the place where there're no more frontiers to which we can escape the stench of our most recent despoilments, nor the toxicity of our previously buried ones.

The problem, of course, is that the one-percenters, though few in number, command enough wealth to affect a "last-stand" that'd make Pyrrhuses of the rest of us. Now, with the frontier-needle on "empty", most of us will have to get along by accepting that supremacism and stateless corporatocracy are totally inadequate to this new global circumstance while, at the same time, having to contain a dangerous, boiling cyst of gated-community resentment that believes those two obsoletes are actually its ONLY salvation--- the "rapture" I guess. Kinda like those blobs of melt-down goo under Fukushima and Chernobyl: can't really do anything 'cept keep 'em hosed down and encapsulated while we get on with adapting to our new, used-up globe.

I just finished reading the 'Letters To The Editor' section of the Ottawa Sun. Now, I must admit, I like to read this section, mostly for the comedy from their dyed in the Green (as in Lowell) right wing nut bars comments. Today, a Renfrew constituent claims that most Canadain voters are ignorant of intelligent politics because the overwhelming majority of us, think Hillary would be a better choice (I'm with you on Bernie, Simon) as President, rather than Trump. It amazes me that these Harperites can honestly think a man, who's started his campaign with racist comments about a large and important part of the Ameriacan population, Mexican Americans, is a good choice to lead the largest military complex ever seen on our planet. Are these people all racists? Do they not see the harm in making false blanket statements about a large and important part of the American population? I mean, here is their billionaire hero, who is a supposed to be a money genius, who has filed for bankruptcy on several occasions. It leads me to wonder if these neo-theo-cons have any scope at all of the realities which we as humans must face for our children's future. If you have ever wondered how a modern nation like Germany elected Hitler, look no further than what we are seeing in America right now. At first I laughed at his entry into the GOP race, now I'm scared, especially considering they elected Bush, twice.

e.a.f. said...

almost makes Bush look good, when you see Trump.

If Trump is elected we might see a race war. it won't be whites and blacks, but Latino and republican whites. Americans tend to forget Texas and California were once part of Mexico.

Trump is much more scary than Putin, this much I do know.
